At the earnings call…after he was asked about the gazillions he is pouring into the Metaverse, at one point he said “it may succeed, I don’t know, …” I mean, WTF really?

Anyway, the positive thing about all this is that many META employees now see how good it really is to have older boring financial advisors 🙂

Ordinarily buying the “dip” in Meta May be a good idea. But throwing away $16B this year and possibly $25B next year (until at least 2030) on reality labs is what concerns the market. If he kept it at $2-4B and grew it gradually with market adoption, the stock would be rewarded (more buyback please). Now it’s a potential $250B bet on something that may not generate much revenue. Pharmaceutical companies make safer bets!
Who’s managing the FB part? I know it’s boring, but still very profitable. It’s a problem when the founder has preferred stocks and all the power. Investors are voting with their feet. And won’t come back until he runs a stock holder friendly company. I have a feeling it will take a year or two for reality to sink in. Meanwhile TikTok and Apple may have completely changed the core market. It’s tempting but a big bet on Zuck. I just don’t know if he will listen and adjust.
