Was going to do a post tomorrow...but been two weeks since this blog made any money, sad.

So maybe I postpone it to Thursday...

One day this baby is going once a month like Milenerd.

Biggest snow storm of the season tomorrow...should have stayed in Hawaii.

And thanks David, you have no idea how far these comments/emails go in keeping this baby going...

I do not want to sound like I had this bad trip because I sure did not! It is Hawaii after all, it is hard NOT to enjoy it there. I just felt that Kauai for us (both me and my wfie) felt that Kauai was #4 on the scale of the main islands. Again, expectations were high so that sure did not help.

It rained while we were there so that certainly contributed to the muddy hiking conditions.

The days of super long trip reports in this blog are clearly over.

Used to watch Hawaii 5-0 growing up in Greece. Every Thursday at 11 pm...we used to sneak into the living room and watch it and then talk about it the next day at school.

Best thing to do is to stop looking at stock tickers and at your portfolio. I do...because it is my job doing some selective buying here and there managing client expectations that anything is possible in the short term and we are sticking to the plan. And I had been pounding on "this can't go up infinitely" and nobody can time it anyway so focus on what you do best.

I loved Kauai, sorry you didn't enjoy it as much. I recall Waimea hiking as being kind of dusty, not muddy, maybe we lucked out? In any case, I won't demand a trip report from you for this one.

In light of recent market volatility and energy outperformance, I'm going to cite this comment of mine from last year:

I honestly think we're headed for a 70s-style energy crisis. There isn't enough gas and oil drilling right now and we aren't building enough nuclear plants.

Hilton has always been good to me, so I’m loyal to them. I can understand why you didn’t feel the warmth at the Hawaiian Village, but that’s how I felt at the Resort at Squaw Creek in the Tahoe area - and that was my first stay at a Hyatt property. It was frigid! But the HHV will always be special to me because my room got me an awesome view of the Hawaii Five-O filming being done below, a dream come true for me.

Man, I just adored my stay on Kauai, but every traveler has different needs and wants, etc. Sorry it wasn't as great a trip as you hoped!

Love the Photos link, and I am gonna read that 'Tater chip story in a bit once the coffee is ready!

Thanks for all this great stuff!

Kauai impressions:

-Landed in tiny airport and chickens greeted us on the way to Hertz.
-Chickens appear to just roam around all over the island, never seen so many chickens around...and roosters guarding them lol.
-Tiny roads...got stuck a few times due to accidents.
-Overpriced food, ok it was expected. But I found the quality to be lacking as well.
-Napali coast and park. Well, this was my fault I think. We relied on a friend's suggestion that no need for reservation to park and/or hike. Especially when there is a Hawaii resident. So, we were denied entry even with son flashing his HI drivers license. His girlfriend did not have her HI yet....then checked online and no passes for the next few days. Helicopter prices were too high and you only crash once, so no thanks. Wife gets motion sickness on boats so those were out. Bummed about this as this appears to be the BEST thing to see/do in this island.
-Running is just dangerous, not many paths so you run on the road and gotta watch for cars. So much for bringing my buds to enjoy a podcast/music, had to be alert!
-The drive to the Wimea valley and canyon was nice. But could not see much due to fog. And hiking there is so muddy you really need to sacrifice a pair of shoes and we only brought one lol.
-Saw some waterfalls. Which were nice. But we have seen better.
-Felt that we were not welcome...In one waterfalls which was harder to find there were signs KEEP OUT and NO signs showing how to get to that waterfall AT ALL!
-Visited some beaches...and they were nice. But not better than the other islands.
-Maybe I was too stressed because I did not have as much time available to really explore the island more....it was during the stock market fireworks.

Just felt the other islands had a lot more....that country feeling in Kauai was just a bit too much. Or, again, expectations were so much higher?

Welcome back!

I went to Maui with my parents and my son. THAT was wonderful. Good memories.

I almost died when I saw the train photos ... gee ... that doesn't look like the DC to NYC
trains I take. Huh!

Thanks!

Glad it sounds like overall the Kauai trip was a success. Could you share more about what wasn't for you on the island?
