Isn't it more likely that we will see something similar with SARS-CoV-2? The Delta strain may be the last high infectious version and then it runs out of hosts or can't evolve further (partially thanks to the vaccine). My guess is that SARS-CoV-2 won't be an an annual event like the seasonal flu.
It's interesting to note that NZ, AU and parts of Asia that "did so well" early in the pandemic delayed vaccination and now are suffering from a much more infectious variant.

Spanish Flu evolved into a non deadly version which is still around. Killing your host is not smart as the virus realised. It disappeared very quickly, over a few months.

Get vaccinated and use masks indoors when it’s crowded. Use common sense. As a host, you give the virus another opportunity to mutate.
It’s possible that SARS-COV-2 will be around for a long time. Reflecting on this, what happened to the Spanish flu? Did it go away completely? Why did that one end?

You wrote: " Well, a reader reached out telling me that my posts are too good but too long and if I could space them out and make them shorter…that would be great."

Noooooo!!!! Love the posts and all the links and info and especially, COMMENTARY in them. References to all kinds of stuff, etc.

Far as I am concerned, what with this being the best blog I subscribe to, BY FAR, the posts can be as long as you want! Or longer!

Thanks as always for all this!

Anyone know if I have already gotten the 5 elite nights from the Chase Hyatt card, will I get 5 more if I cancel and sign up again? I still probably shouldn’t chase elite status I’m not even sure that I’ll use but it would change the calculus.

We had a good time in Nashville last week. My wife's niece is now settled in her dorm. We met an Amish guy while walking around town near one of the hospitals; his daughter was there for heart surgery. Dude looked to be about 30 years old and had seven kids. He had a thick Tennessee accent, which is not what I expected. Apparently there are thousands of Amish southwest of Nashville, I had no idea.

Enjoy Hocking Hills! I seem to remember reading about a scenic drive near there, possibly in something you linked here.

"maybe getting it while fully vaccinated may be the way to go. Still, I am not going out there looking for it."

I've come around to the view that covid isn't going anywhere and that we're all getting it eventually. If the vaccine's preventative ability fades with time, why not go out there looking for it? I can think of two reasons not to:
1. There's currently a wave hitting and you don't want to get sick while the health care system is overwhelmed.
2. They *might* develop better treatments.

Other than that, I don't see much reason for extreme prevention measures. Am I wrong? Critique my argument please, I don't have a strong opinion here.
