I was misquoted, numerous times, in that CNN article (cool photo though).

However, Qatar has been regularly selling J, for cash, from Copenhagen / Amsterdam / Stockholm / Brussels to Bangkok and elsewhere in Asia for £700-£900 return, depending on the particular sale. Last time was just a couple of weeks ago.

These are astonishing deals – the amazing Qatar 787 J product and 560 BA tier points (so over 90 per cent of the way to BA Silver / oneworld Sapphire) and a big slug of miles. Keep an eye on HFP and I will let you know when they are back.

Regarding “6 secrets to flying first class for free by CNN.”
According to Burgess “Qatar fly two 787s out of Copenhagen (to Qatar) a day. There is not that much demand there for the business class seats, so you can get them for £700 ($1,086), which is nothing compared to the cost from London.”

This statement must be purely based on paying cash only (the cost in Avios points and cash from LON isn’t much different than from CPH). I got rock hard until I noticed it’s ~25000 DKK or 3800 USD.
What a fcuking waste of a reader’s time and intellect.

Great comment, thank you! I also really enjoyed this article from my colleague about the approach to financial planning than the typical “early retirement” and hardcore “save, save, save, don’t buy that late, save it & after 30 years of not buying that late you can retire blah blah blah”.
