Something I just learned about China: there’s an imaginary line there called the Heihe–Tengchong Line which divides the country in two: the eastern part has 43% of the area but 94% of the population. I knew the western part was relatively empty but I didn’t know it was that much more empty.

Forget all the places on the Pacific Coastal Highway post (except Big Sur, obviously) (I live by 3 of them), the only place you need to know about is Point Lobos State Reserve in Carmel.

The best hiking in China are pretty much all in the Western part of China that no one thinks of as China. Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai, Western Sichuan, etc. Jiuzhaigou had an earthquake recently with much of the attractions destroyed.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Or the commenter saying it’s one of their favorite places ever. Just look at the reviews on TripAdvisor. If it doesn’t appeal to you, that’s ok.
