We took a side trip to Iguassu Falls and it was fantastic. I mostly used AA miles between the US and Argentina. Flights from Buenos Aires to IGR were only a bit over $100 r/t, so it wasn’t really worth using airline miles, and I just booked it using some TY points through the TY portal.
Summary: Focus on finding the seat you want to Buenos Aires (or Brazil) and don’t sweat the small flights. Unless you use United’s excursionist perk, you’re going to be booking at least one separate flight anyway, assuming you aren’t going just to Iguassu.

We visited the falls from both sides which I really recommend as the experiences are very different. We were happy with being on the Argentina side for our hotel and the town.
