Trying to keep this short while trying to cope with what is going on…
No miles & points worthy links, the few I have I will save for Monday.
The best thing I read recently is another brilliant piece of work by Howard Marks: “Implications of the Election“. It is not a short read. But I think it is incredibly educational. You may feel better actually about our country’s direction IF bipartisanship and comity prevail. I am not going to take this bet…but I sure want to and am willing to support it.
Wait But Why had a Follow up to its ‘It’s Going to be OK’ post. As always, TBB only brings you quality…
Your personal finance fix of the day: How to become a ‘2% investor’.
One of my favorite artists has departed the earth. Leonard Cohen dead at 82 by Rolling Stone is great to understand him, his life and work. Another piece from the same publication is great if you want to get familiar with him: Leonard Cohen’s best songs for newcomers. The dude kept writing until his death and released another album weeks before his death. The song “You want it darker” is just brilliant. RIP Leonard Cohen, you will be so missed! I am upset that I never attended one of his concerts #boome
You all have a great week!

Buzz-
I’ll miss Leonard Cohen a lot too.
In the interest of education for TBB readers, I thought a peek into Cohen’s financial life would be worth a few minutues:
http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/leonard-cohen-goes-broke/
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/arts/judge-grants-leonard-cohen-multimillion-dollar-judgment-against-ex-manager/article4100082/
Now this doesn’t end there. Neil Greenberg, the Boulder-based financial planner mentioned in the Cohen stories, went on to impressive fame himself, labelled by Fortune magazine a “double Ponzi loser” and “one of the most reckless investors in recent memory”:
http://fortune.com/2010/09/07/sec-charges-double-ponzi-loser/
The Fortune article say that Greenberg got his clients into not only the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme, but also another one run by Tom Petters involving an appliance resale scheme.
Of course, I am only citing these articles and readers should research for themselves whether Fortune knew what it was writing about because it may not be true, and I’m not saying or suggesting that it is, your honor.
But assuming it is, I have a few thoughts:
1. I hadn’t heard about the appliance resale Ponzi scheme, but that’s no surprise-I haven’t even had time to link my SPG and Marriott accounts. But think of the miles that scheme could have racked up reselling appliances (if they ever did).
2. I think the SEC was shortsighted in charging Greenberg. Sure, he put clients into two Ponzi schemes and they lost a lot of money (so they say) but I say one door closes and another one opens. The SEC and state regulators are always trying to find Ponzi schemes, and here’s a guy who not only found two of them but he talked rich clients into investing in them. What a laser missle to turn up fraud (if there was fraud). Remember the movie with Leonardo Decaprio “Catch Me If You Can”? This is the same idea-set up Greenberg with 50 or so rich folks (you need dumb ones so I’d look in places with high turnout for Trump) and let Greenberg make investments for them. Then the regulators can just dig-in wherever he places the money. Easy Peasy, as they say on the Manufactured Spending boards.
Back to Leonard Cohen, I read sometime ago that “Suzanne”, who inspried the song by the same name, was the only woman he wrote a song about who he did not sleep with.
So there you have: Educate, Entertain, Inspire. So Long, Marianne.

Wow, great comment Sam,thanks a lot.
I had heard of Cohen’s financial difficulties but I did not know the details. Your links were perfect. Wow, just wow.
I think Suzanne he slept with but I could be wrong…
This part had me choking on my hazelnut coffee at Panera this morning, mega LOL!

I also had never heard of reselling appliances!
