You should primarily use your hard earned/churned miles and points for travel. As in booking trips on airline and hotel websites. In very limited instances, you book travel on the travel portal of the proprietary bank points you own and then blow some on some unique occasions (sporting events in your bucket list, etc.). Scroll down below, you won’t believe what an expert is doing to take away YOUR miles & points!
TBB Blog Mission: To Entertain. Educate. Inspire. In That Order!
In my 20 year long obsession about this hobby I have seen some ridiculous things. Even though I am not one to judge and have been known for the quote “The miles are yours, use them the way YOU want” that showcases my expertise and thought leadership on this topic…there are exceptions. Such as: Don’t cash your miles/points for merchandise for example! And then you come face to face with the following which made me want to barf all over myself. NEVER DO THAT! I repeat: NEVER WASTE 50k miles like this! Please. Friends don’t let friends do this!
Because, if you do, you will make me go:
Irrelevant Note: You will NEVER ever see me carry a bag like this or ever wear a bow-tie!
It’s about education, entertainment, inspiration…
Back to regular programming soon…
Please help bloggers you appreciate & make a positive difference in your life by spreading the word about their blogs, emailing and commenting and using their few $ links, thank you!

While I would not waste 50k points on this, at least 100% of proceeds are going to charity.

@Scott I think if you have $1000 to blow, give it to the charity of YOUR choice rather than to promote some blogger. While I assume TPG is honest, the reality is when some middle man collects your points or cash via internet you have no way to verify if the money really goes where you intended. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but I had the impression there was a scandal not that long ago in the travel community when it came out that a blogger’s charity was not a sound charity, just a highly publicized one. But the money did not go to help those the blogger intended to help, just the owners of the charity. Anyone else remember hearing something like that?
Scott says
I don’t disagree with what you are saying. I am just merely commenting on the fact that he is not keeping the money. If someone wants to blow $500 to talk to him for 30 minutes good for them, and at least it is going to charity. Points for Peace is a part of the PeaceJam Foundation. Whether that is a worthy cause I leave to others.
Also to answer your question it was FTG scamming his readers using Wounded Warrior.

People who have that much money to give to charity would probably not be interested in advise on how to use miles and points.
Plane2port says
@peachfront–yes I believe it was the wounded warrior project. I’ll leave it to others to fill in the blanks…..

Now I feel like a sweepstakes winner. The first time I met The Points Guy, he sought me out in the crowd and we must have talked for an hour or more one-on-one.
JA says
How much extra is it if you want his parents to sit in on your session?
Paul says
Even if he does donate to a charity, he is getting the tax deduction with your money (points)!
Joseph N. says
Gee, if I do this, how do I know I will meet the real Points Guy, and not one of his extremely mediocre young ghostwriters?
Influencer? Really? Is that a word?
John says
TPG really is the worst. Charity???? Sure why not after all the free advertising this gets him from American Express and the 7 figures he makes every year from being a credit card whore. He is busy laughing all the way to the bank in his Hamptons mansion right now.
Better By Design says
This is simply amazing.
Should we start a campaign to raise money so TBB can go meet him in person?
The YouTube video of a dressing down should generate some hits on the ol’ Support Page links, one would hope…
I’m in for $10!
