Affiliate link money coming in, cha ching. Life is great, yipppeee!!From Top 25 link below. |
ON MY MIND
The more I observe the blogoshpere the more ridiculous some bloggers get pretending they offer something useful, only to come up with yet more pathetic excuses to attack their readers wtih more credit card affiliate links. I usually can tell now as soon as I see a title how many and which credit cards are going to get pushed! Do I have psychic abilities or what? If only I could do the same with individual stocks I would be filthy rich by now:-) There are SO MANY EXAMPLES I can rip here to infinity! Have you no shame? Apparently not!
Speaking of affiliate links, is everyone pretty much allowed such links from creditcards.com? It appears everyone is doing it! As usual, I don’t have time to look into it, I am too busy with my own life and whatever is left I am trying to produce a quality blog here!
MILES/POINTS
Pointchaser shows how to get a crapload of free photo prints in several ways. Shutterfly even earns Ultimate Reward points! Check out comment by Jose. Pointchaser bought by Internet Brands, what???
Isn’t it amazing that the introduction of affiliate links suddenly propels Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard to Chase Ink card like status? Step right up, you must get it now or else! It just goes to show you that this hobby has become a prime “we pimp for the banks to anyone who breathes, err, clicks”. Churning challenges are now cut and paste challenges. Why does one spouse need to have 710 FICO and the other 705? A question on how to turn hotel points to Delta becomes a giant affilate link fest for all cards that earn a commission! Let me tell you something about transferring to Delta: DON’T DO IT! That’s all you need to know. And thank you all for your support!

I know;-)

this barclay crap today was so blatant. man, some of these bloggers don’t even try to disguise it.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yep, there are more today. At least u got give some credit to the ones who got it out first!
Anonymous says
Counted at least 10 posts about it so far this morning.

What drives me nuts is the superlatives used to describe this lame card, Ie Incredible value! Amazing 2.2% cash back! WOW!
Translation: click me, click me!
Anyways, give me a break. I’m just thankful I can read between the lines and it’s becoming ever more so important to do so. Oh the greed.
ArizonaGuy says
Seriously. I’ll take my 5% card any day.
Anonymous says
How are you getting 5% on all spend? You should start a blog…
Anonymous says
You had me at 5%, please educate the masses.
While we are involved in this penis measurement exercise, mine’s 6%.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I am waiting for the first card to be pimped with free viagra pills!
MickeyW says
Well aren’t you happy that they are “disclosing” at the beginning? Since you know, that shows how genuine and honest they are. The fire isn’t burning anymore ?
I hope we don’t start getting disclosures before TV ads any time soon in order to make it even worse that it is.
And I wish the term “readers” would get replaced by “Customers” in the commercial blogosphere. Let’s call them what they really are.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yeah, customers instead of readers!
Dia, The Deal Mommy says
To answer your question, yes. If you’re on CJ or GAN, you will 99% get accepted by creditcards.com. But what do I know…I’m just an “amazon whore” LOL.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I am okay with Amazon whoring, at least you can’t wreck your life with it;-) Getting 6 cards at a time when you are a noob with no emergency fund and spending issues is like inviting them to hang themselves. If this blog ever falls into this ditch you will see the best darn scariest disclosures ever:-) Yeah, like I have time for that, maybe in 2015 at my pace:-)
Fishing4Deals says
I noticed the same thing when the Barclaycard Arrival was not being hawked in the blogosphere. I had received a targeted offer in January. My story here: http://fishing4deals.com/2013/03/08/barclaycard-arrival-targeted-credit-card-offer-450-in-free-travel-or-not/
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I remember reading it then. Again, with so many cards floating around…this is yet another brick/plastic in the wall…
Anonymous says
Is it safe to assume that this Barclays card has been around for a while but never got blogged about because it didn’t offer referral credit
Lord have mercy for the day the Carlson cards start generating affiliate $$$. You’re going to need an umbrella to protect you from all the links raining down on you.
Anonymous says
The signup bonus on that card doubled.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
See my response about my eyeballs next comment below:-)
Dan says
The Barclay card has been available for affiliate promotion for a while but offered just 20K.
The increase of the public offer to 40K yesterday makes it a sweet enough offer to blog about and is why you’ll find it featured just about everywhere.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
My eyeballs got dizzy seeing the headline in my Google Reader, that’s all:-)
Mommy Points says
Yeah I haven’t written about the Barclay card yet, but I don’t think it is new to the affiliate channel. Probably a combo of the 40K + folks getting reminded it is out there and adding their two cents.
No doubt it always looks funny though when multiple folks blog about the same thing around the same time…just the nature of the beast though.
Anonymous says
hey mommypoints, funny you mention that considering how your blog just rehashes content every day. one of the least original blogs out there.
Anonymous says
It always looks funny when bloggers find new and creative ways to come up with posts that incorporate links to every single credit card under the sun
You’re planning Hawaii vacation post was like that. Minus the creative and funny part
[insert SPG Amex link]
Anonymous says
my bad. i thought you were milesmomma. got confused. i still don’t like your blog that much, but it isn’t nearly as bad as milesmomma. sorry.
Anonymous says
HAHAHAHAHA
TravelBlogger Buzz says
confusing mommypoints with milesmomma does a huge diservice to mommypoints as her blog’s content is infinitely much better than mm!
Anonymous says
Uch the quality of MommyPoints blog has seriously plummeted
Not sure what development happened on the affiliate front over the past 2 months, but in that time, MommyPoints and Lucky’s blogs have completely gone in the crapper with their incessant pimping. No better than TPG or FTG
Just today MommyPoints tossed up a 35 link barrage
Gary’s blog has also stepped up the pimping, but not the the extent the OMAT or MM has
We’re at the point where I’m surprised when a even a trip report doesn’t contain a single link (unless it’s a trip report of a Radisson…)
Mommy Points says
Wish the Hawaii post was just “tossed up” – that one took forever to write. Not knocking Miles Momma or any other similarly named blog, but name confusion is unfortunate as the sites are quite different.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
The money is in the affiliate credit card links. And they are not going away….get used to it.
I will always rate Mommy Points higher than FTG:-)
MP:It took forever to write, I am sure. Time that could be better spent improving the post even further instead of editing them links. I think it was 36 and not 35, then again I am not very good at math lol.
Why nobody else doesn’t do the affiliate links like Frequent Miler? I need to ask that in my blog tomorrow I think as the whole affiliate barrage is intensifying.
Thanks for listening, err…reading! And thank you to all for taking the time to comment, I sure appreciate it;-)
MickeyW says
So no one else can “focus on family travel” <-whatever that means ....like what rest are riding solo blogs? hahaha I would support a blog that just come out and say I am in it for the money (however long it lasts) and in the process a few will also benefit because of me showing the methods and tricks. It is fun reading the blogger masquerades till that happens.
Anonymous says
If only it took you forever to write because you were concerned that it is of high quality, and not because it takes a while to embed 35 links
You’re blog is a lot like MilesMomma – neither focus much on family travel anymore. They focus much more on the SPG Amex [insert link] and the CSP [insert link]
Anonymous says
I’m the one who made the mistake confusing the 2 blogs. I did apologize, but let me be very clear. Mommypoints is not much better than Milesmomma. They’re both pretty terrible. Just wanted to clear that up.
Anonymous says
Has anyone noticed how much FTG tweets out links to First2Board stories? For all the claims that they don’t have any relationship he sure promotes them quite a bit.
Anonymous says
Ka-ching!!! And remember First2Board sends their readers to FTG for (very bad) credit card advice.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I was going to post yesterday in my “On my mind” column: I find the love between First2Board and FTG very…weird:-)
Anonymous says
Thanks for the heads up about the tweeting
That certainly explains the quid-pro-quo
First2Board….. garbage
TWA44 says
I’ve been very disappointed with First2Board. The site reminds me of not-fun-to-read Huffington Post and the content doesn’t change very often. Not very much compelling in what their bloggers write about. At least with BA I can glance quickly and know if there is something new. I am liking Hack.Travel and have found some new blogs to peek at. But then again I am a newbie.
Anonymous says
Agreed about First2Board. The content has been pretty meh so far. The only reason I really gave them the benefit of the doubt (and click) was because of the lack of affiliate links. But if the workaround to that is being in bed with FTG, that’s every bit as bad
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Hey, Rome (Boarding Area) was not built in a day. The site is just a month old so give them some time. I like the variety and LOVE the lack of repetitive hityouupsidethehead affiliate link merry go round. And I find the “let’s promote each other” deal with FTG…well, disturbing in my own humble opinion.
Anonymous says
Having a “wink wink” working relationship with FTG is enough of a reason to not visit F2B
I wouldn’t go to a blog that incessantly pimps terrible cards, so why one I go to a blog that heavily promotes such a blogger?
Anonymous says
I would rather read about the Barclays card than about the quality of tissues and toothpaste – really Deltapoints? BORING!
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Good point!
