Not you, the other guy who got here by clicking the wrong link! |
2013 pace is true insanity…I need to get to February 9th to declare victory in my goal! And then we see what happens around here. One thing for certain, the @FlyerTalkerinA2 twitter account has so crashed that wall and barely shows any signs of recovery.
To be continued…
BEST OF MILES/POINTS
Mile Nerd speaks to a newbie :
Do You Really Want This?
Every day, people tell me how much they’d love to have my mileage account balances. I’m sure you would. I’m well into the millions. I know you’d love flying in premium cabins and staying in fancy hotels. Who wouldn’t? But when it comes down to it, you don’t want to stay organized. You don’t want to open and close credit cards. You don’t want to play “the games” that will earn you miles. When it really comes down to it, you won’t give up an hour a week for this hobby. So, you might wish you had a million miles, but you don’t really want it. I hate to break it to you, friend, but you’re in the wrong place. Priceline.com is over there.
At DansDeals he wrote about Google Flights & its new feature, take me to Europe or Asia or any Region por favor!
Holy cow, this Nomadic Matt dude was everywhere yesterday, what’s up with that?
Proof that my blog has made a difference? See Milesabound and his initial disclosure on top and how can I not love the ending “Hat-tip to TBB for making me think carefully about putting in warnings about credit card usage Take it seriously kids, credit cards can be bad for your health if you don’t use them properly
He wrote a fantastic response to the reader’s question on how to get enough miles for Maldives and all are non affiliate links. Oh, and he does have amazing destination guides for Maldives and Seychelles too!
BEST OF TRAVEL
Awesome video at Gadling “Escape to the Beaches of Bali“
“The faces of Ratanakiri“. From dtravelsround. Amazing picture of kids’ faces. Ends with “It makes me wonder: if kids in first world countries who have those iPads, the cell phones, the video games, could come here and see how these children live, I wonder if the next generation would be different?”
Wow!
Awesome video of a couple traveling to 20 countries in 312 days in….three minutes! Wow! From Gadling.
NOT SO BEST OF
This is a crazy story at tnooz. Apparently the men travel bloggers are not that good looking for them to sell “Men of Travel Blogging” 2013 calendars? Ouch, some bad blood thrown around too. And why nobody called me, was I not good looking enough? I am devastated, how am I supposed to over come this stab in the back??
Taking some time off from pointing out the ridiculous practices of the usual suspects. Please feel free to point them out in the comments. And please allow yourself to not get angry:-)

FTG’s churning challenge today is terrible.
Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t actually look at it – I’m just basing it off 100% historical precedent
And not sure if TPG plans on bringing back that “Wine Wednesday” garbage, but if he does, lets just nominate it now
The Artist Formerly Known as Anonymous says
Much like last week, the Wine Wednesday was just a glorified excuse to remind everyone of all the CC’s that are Visa Signature, just in case anyone forgot from last weeks post
As for the churning challenge, yet again he pretends their is “no cost” (is he going to reimburse the people he’s giving advice to if their ticket isn’t $0?), and yet again he “talks about” the better US Airways offer but links to a page with provides a scare-mongering nudge towards the inferior one
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Noted. More on my blog.

If you slow down or stop, I will miss the videos and photos the most. Absolutely wonderful and I would never have the time to wade through what you do to find them myself.
Thanks!

Oh stop it man, comments like this make me…keep going:-)
I just want to get to February 9th for now…

TPG has his little win thing going again – it does not seem to be such a hot feature, but I do like how he mentions all the various cards that get the Visa Signature deals (affiliate links) and then says “many more.” I wonder if those many more are affiliate links or non affiliate links? 🙂

Dan says that he has to pull the Hyatt Visa links at 5pm Eastern
Of course no one should be using those links because they aren’t the best deal.
Ironically, Gary today reminds that you can get the Hyatt Visa with a $100 statement credit. He does a run down of best credit cards but includes many non-affiliate links (American, US Airways, Mercedes Benz Amex Platinum, Hyatt, Fairmont, reference to Club Carlson).
So even though there are lots of affiliate links in the post, it’s (1) reasonable content, somewhat repetitive but offers and links have changes, (2) with full disclosure, (3) best available offers.
How Dan can ‘update’ to let everyone know that links are going away at 5pm eastern FOR SOMETHING HE SHOULDN’T BE SUGGESTING THEY GET IN TEH FIRST PLACE is beyond me.
Surely Dan’s update has to be a candidate for Not So Best Of.

Agreed. Pretty terrible practice. Gary was pretty succing in the comments – “it’s not applicable to me since I only post the best offers”. Not sure if those were the exact words, but whatever it was deserves MVP comment of the day tomorrow
Can’t really find fault with Garys CC post today. Was it pimping? Absolutely. But it was his first one in a while, and he clearly presented all the best offers, including subtle ones that would go unnoticed by most readers (like the Hyatt better offer).
I think you’re blog TBB has really made Gary’s site for the better (and we know he reads you :)) – if he’s going to pimp cards, an infrequent post such as today’s sure beats the weekly recycled CSP/SPG Amex posts where he just switches a couple of words around
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Just a quick note: If Gary has posts like today once in a while, I think it is perfectly fine, he sure has earned it. I wish other bloggers would offer a tiny portion of the great content that he provides. But they don’t…they just excel in…well, you all know what, don’t like to call names due to the latest developments in my life. There are many crazies and angries out there:-)
Note the smiley…Take a joke man!
Anonymous says
Agreed, Gary’s post today was solid (by filler/CC pimping standards)
Note that since your blog started, the frequency of Gary’s CC pimping posts have gone down, and the quality of them have gone up
Which means you’ve done more for the FF community in 3 months than FTG has done in the past 2 years
TravelBlogger Buzz says
That last sentence really really made my day, thank you!

Nice to see Mile Nerd on here. Emailed him a few times and one of the real good guys in this game.

I have said that to so many people…reading it in one place…was priceless!

I’m a fan of MN too. Good rep with his short posts and lack of selling.

BREAKING NEWS!!!! TPG IS REPORTING THAT DELTA IS PLANNING ON OPENING SOME OUTDOOR TERRACES!!!
Ok, now that we got this exciting news out of the way, which “lesser” blogger who reported this news 2 weeks ago do you think he stole it from?
PM&M – http://boardingarea.com/blogs/pointsmilesandmartinis/2013/01/enjoy-outdoors-with-deltas-outdoor-sky-club-terrace-atl-and-jfk-get-them-first/
MJ on Travel – http://boardingarea.com/blogs/mjontravel/2013/01/28/im-gonna-love-on-delta-for-just-a-minute/
WA – http://boardingarea.com/blogs/thewanderingaramean/2013/01/a-domestic-us-lounge-concept-thats-actually-exciting-deltas-sky-deck/
…. or one of the other dozens of bloggers, MilePoint and FlyerTalk who reported it?
Or are we going to prevent that he doesn’t read a single other travel blog and just found this out on his own?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Stealiung is a very strong word. Ok, he lags, we have noticed that. Maybe it is better if we don’t have them all post the same thing at the same time? Adds a little variety to the blogosphere?…ok, maybe I am stretching it:-)
Anonymous says
Probably a strong word, but the alternative is trying to pretend that he doesn’t read any other blog, FlyerTalk or MilePoint (even though he links these very sites on his blog), and just so happened, 2 weeks after Delta made this announcement…. to have figured it out himself. Just like he figures out everything he posts 2 weeks late all by himself
I’d rather use strong language that is accurate than pretend to act naive about something for the sake of convenience.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
You can use any language you want here, I do not censor!
