Hello there from the Intercontinental in NYC Times Square. Using one of the IHG Rewards Club free nights here before it expired. Of course it is not free, it costs $49 (to keep the card) and I try to get the best bang for it and I usually do.
We were delayed 4 hours in Chicago Midway flying from Detroit to La Guardia. If there is one airline that makes it tolerable and actually fun dealing with such weather related incidents, it is Southwest. I blame Avios for not making any award seats for the direct flights from Detroit, boo!
We stopped at Amex Centurion lounge at LGA, oh what a zoo. I never had to eat standing up there and barely managed to find a power outlet to recharge my phone, wow! Expect access restrictions very soon I am afraid. At least got the ride to the city free with the Uber promo, hooray!
Book Etihad First Apartment while you still can!
MileCards has a post about 5 great First Class fares for under $500. I wouldn’t know as I almost never pay for any fare lol but some of you may found this useful. You know them airlines love giving away more miles for these higher priced tickets for Elite status to keep you hooked on meth vanishing upgrades.
This may reasonate with some readers who are travel bloggers. “The true costs of being a travel writer“. I can never relate, I love my home. I am NOT judging, we are all different. Do NOT let others define your success. Do I care much about this blog not making me minimum wage? Apparently not as I am still at it…so I am either a complete idiot or I must like it somehow. It could be…both ๐
This is so inspirational. One man made it a mission to bring internet access to a remote region in Nepal that is accessible after several days on foot. You sound so douchie when you complain about your pre departure drink, I just wanted you to know that ok?
You enter your ZIP code, you get demographic and lifestyle information about your neighborhood. Cool.
What they don’t teach you in Business School. One of the best blog posts of 2015. In my world anyway.
Stephen Curry’s 15 most mesmerizing shots from the Golden State Warriors’ red-hot start.
21 heartbreaking photos of the refugee crisis. Oh man, heartbreaking indeed.
When a story starts out like this “La Rinconada is the highest human habitation in the world, and it is home to some of the most brutal living conditions known to man. It’s also an unregulated goldmine.” it sure gets my attention. I had no idea about this place, definitely there will likely never be a Hyatt here!
And I leave you with this…

Double first.
ABC says
How is the Intercontinental in NYC Times Square? I considered burning my free night there, but couldn’t find the time nor convenient flights to get there this holiday. Staying at the ABC inn instead.
Andy Shuman says
Small.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Definitely perfect location if you want to roam around Times Square. Well maintained. I sacrificed a room with a view on top floor for a bigger size room in the 4th floor. Definitely not small! But other than that I did not care about this place much at all. It is packed with tourists, service is lacking and comes with a sense of some attitude imho. I will always remember I got turned away from sitting in the restaurant in the morning because I did not want to eat, just wanted some time away with my coffee…instead I was pointed to a waiting area lounge without proper desks I can easily do stuff with my laptop. I may have eaten something as well. Instead I shook my head in disbelief and found me a Panera blocks away. The restaurant was half empty at the time!!!

Leftover questions from yesterday.
Would you take the Citi 50K AA miles or 50K Thank You points ?
What kind of status can I transfer to Hilton from my Red Roof Inns Redicard?
ABC says
AA miles if you will spend them before devaluation, otherwise TYP.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
If EVERYTHING is constant….I personally will take TYP.
Since all redeeming decisions are…personal., the correct answer is: It depends ๐
Or go with what ABC
I think you are joking about RedRoof….or, I hope you do lo.

That is a great article about the mines from the New Yorker, thanks harvson3.
