Well, the big news of the day was the announcement by American Airlines of changes coming to Elite status qualification in the AAdvantage program. They are copying pretty much what the other airlines are doing. Mileage runs are dead. Spoils go to the ones who pay up and the true road warriors. The era of being upgraded to first class for almost free…is over. And it is not returning. Move on.
Frequent Miler wonders if Necker Island was worth 1.2 million miles. “Hell yeah”. And the PR does not hurt either!
Get up to 1,500 Marriott Rewards points free. If you have not done so yet.

Snake on a plane! For real this time! Hate it when I see something and then I see other bloggers do whole posts about the same subject. I mean, who cares about an incident like this! I did this on purpose because I have an agenda lol.
Did you know there is a dentist office at the JFK airport? Well, now you do! #mindblown
An illustrated guide of the world’s weirdest panics. From A to Z. Must click! This is my favorite by far. I am still laughing!
K Koro Penis Hysteria Singapore, 1967 Throughout history, penis-havers been gripped by “koro” – the fear that their organ was shrinking or disappearing. Singapore’s, though, truly swelled out of control. After a rumor started that tainted pork caused the condition, hundreds of terrified men flocked to hospitals, until the Ministry of Health reassured the country that it was all in their (other) heads.
Your personal finance fix of the day: Wall Street’s Wisest Man. Interview of Charley Ellis from 2001. So true today too…
Looks like that Matthew dude at Upgdr gets his own spot at Boarding Area while all the other nine Upgdr writers now write at Travel Codex, which is also part of Boarding Area! Randy Petersen called him “one of the top bloggers worldwide”. Seriously?
That thingie with Hertz President’s Circle worked…Maybe I will do a car rental in 2017 for a change.

And so the 2016 election season draws to an end. Guaranteed that tomorrow morning, half the US will be pissed off. Democracy!
For inspiration, from Desiderata:
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

One of the top bloggers worldwide? Seriously? Not sure Randy P. is living in the same reality as the rest of us, and not just based on that comment.
Forgot to post and thank you for the Iran Q&As and pics! Seems like a fascinating place!

Regarding Frequent Miler’s trip to Necker (and Dan’s “first pitch”) story: OF COURSE these guys are going to write about how what they did was SO worth it. Did anyone think otherwise?
Like you wrote, George, they did it partially for the P.R. value. (Do they mention that, btw?) So, the question should be: WITHOUT the PR, was the stunt worth that sort of expense?
I doubt it but, then again, I’m a frugal bastard.
TBBTheDude says
Without the bigly PR: I would venture to guess the answer is probably, still, yes.
Then again, if I could envision what I could do with such a 1 mil plus stash…
Dan says
The PR was gravy.
I mentioned it in at least a few of the posts on the experience and value:

But I would have done it even if I didn’t have a blog, so yes, it was worth it regardless.
bluecat says
Ramsey, you hiding out? Waiting for your election day posts! (I need me some laughs today!!)
TBBTheDude says
Yeah, where is he, I am worried!
Nick @ Personal Finance Digest says
I was reading an NYT article about the election this morning and I received a targeted luxury travel ad for Necker Island.

An offer for a Hyatt Card just showed up on email. Huh. 40k points for $2k spend with a $75 annual fee. It has both an invite code and my zip code. That would pay for a lot of archive work staying at Hyatt Place.
I wonder if this will go public. It as a month fuse.

Interesting…Oh shoot, I have a free night expiring November 30. Maybe I take my girls to Novi next to a movie theater and a sushi place….to spend the night and have breakfast 🙂
