It is early but we may be starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Let me just make a few comments about Southwest Airlines, the best managed US airline. By far. When there is a crisis, there are opportunities. And the airline is doing what it does best, trying to take advantage of the awful pandemic to expand. It is adding four cities this year and plans to add another six in 2021. Moving into Chicago O’Hare and Houston George Bush International airports are huge moves that are causing even more sleepless nights among the executive ranks of the other legacy airlines. No idea if it will be successful in these bigger more expensive airports. Heck, it could fail as that time the airline tried to move into Newark. But, again, these guys play offense while everyone else is reeling. Bill Gates thinks business travel will be permanently down 50% after the pandemic ends and Southwest is probably going to come out as one of the few (only?) winner airlines. As with everything in my blog, this is NOT investment advice!

Son left for Hawaii, flew First Class on AA Detroit to Dallas DFW to Honolulu burning 45,000 miles (Web fare). First class seats at this rate were available pretty much every day! He said flights were packed. He did two Covid tests (both negative) just in case one did not arrive on time. He showed test results on the app at the Covid stand at HNL Honolulu airport. I used my last IHG Rewards free night that was expiring in less than a month (how come IHG has not extended these huh?) for him to stay his first night in HNL before moving in with a few friends/coworkers at an Airbnb. He plans to WFH (Work From Honolulu) for the rest of the winter. Why? Because Hawaii has very low Covid cases and is safer there than in Michigan with his sister coming back from college next week. Pray for us lol.
I missed watching movies in the theater. I hardly watch any movies at home. But there was one movie I can not forget, one that still scares me whenever I think about it. And it is so virus “friendly”. If you want nightmares you should watch it, it is on Amazon Prime: 28 Days Later. And acknowledge that you were warned!
Look at this blog post. Florida recently passed a law to increase minimum wage to $15 per hour. Even if I moved there this blog would not get close. Thinking of finally evolving in January 2021, sad! If you build it they will come…nope. Enjoy this blog in its present form as long as it appears here, it is my baby. 8 year old baby!

I was mugged. By the Chase Reconsideration Department. Let me explain.
I applied for one of those juicy new Ink cards with the $750 SUB (actually it gets up to about $1,075 if you take the URs and Pay Yourself Back. Instant denial-not ‘thinking it over’ but just a flat denial. So I called recon and got a thoughful-sounding guy who turned out to be a real fence-post. He kept saying “You have so many credit cards already”, so I finally asked him to read them off with last four digits so I could follow along. Among the cards he said I had open were 8 Bank of America cards. I asked him if he thought I was Daraius (who I note has commented above) but he just kept charging on. I asked several times if he was reading open or closed cards and he said open (turns out they were closed cards). A true HUCA candidate.
The next day I called and got a much more astute recon rep. She said I had other cards to use, and I wondered if Ford dealerships have salemen who ask why you want a Ford when you can buy a Chevy. She got all the info on our business, which is a condo we rent. Then she said “I have no way to know if any of this is real”. I wasn’t sure what she meant by ‘real’: Maybe she was asking herself ‘Why is this guy chasing frequent flier miles when he hasn’t been to a supermarket in 8 months?’. It turned out, she was questioning the veracity of our stated condo ownership details. I suggested that we go to the county website to check our ownership since 2002. Or maybe I could send property tax receipts for the last 19 years, or maybe copies of Schedule E of our last 19 tax returns reporting the rent. I wanted to ask if she thought I started to forge all this infiormation way back in 2002 just to pull the wool over her eyes to get a new Ink card now.
Then I thought again and realized that if we were talking about the honesty of my app, I probably wasn’t going to be racking up minimum spend on this one.
So I pulled out my hole card: “Madam, are you aware that I applied for this card thru a link on the Travel Blogger Buzz website? That site is owned and lovingly operated by Mr. George Papadopoulis, who was recently selected as one of the top 100 financial advisors in America. And let me tell you a little secret-I hear that he is also on the shortlist for a Presidentail pardon in the next 61 days or so”. At that point she asked if I was aware that this call may be recorded or monitored and I said I know, I also record my calls, including yesterday’s with the fence-post.
So: No card, no follow-on card (I was going to go for the other Ink in 32 days, but I think I should let things cool off for, say, 2-3 years). And no commish for the Buzz.
But that pardon….well, you never know.

I have stopped looking at Tesla. I guess with it coming into the S&P 500 index we all own it now. Talk about an Elon cult or what. Will look to the Ford Mach-E as our next car…in the meantime, I just love driving the Ford Flex…which they stopped making wtf!
Sent a note wishing clients Happy Thanksgiving last night and I told them I have never scratched my head as much as I have in 2020! One replied right away wishing me “Happy, weird Thanksgiving”.

So, we go to two Thanksgiving dinners usually. Relative who got Covid yesterday and then after watching the Lions lose again we come back to Ann Arbor and go to best friend’s house. Well, that is not happening this year of course. Best friend is a nurse and she is working…And on it goes.
Right now our biggest risk is our daughter. Who just can’t keep still. She has a bubble she says. How can you ensure they are all safe I ask her. They are she says…they all had Covid!
And here we are nearing the end of 2020.
At least Trump pardoned the turkeys, a task he always does well and with so much passion. LOL.

I watched him play against Greece in Boston in the 1994 World Cup. He was in the final stages of his career then but his brilliance on the field was still so evident. Argentina won 4-0. To add to the insult, my ticket was in the middle of crazy Argentinian fans and they teased the hell out of me!
