This makes for a perverted fare structure where the old-school high fares exist until competition comes in to knock them down. It’s hit or miss in every market, but this isn’t a new phenomenon.
So if you wonder why you see so many different kinds of fares in similar markets, it’s because there is no coherent pricing strategy in place. There are the remains of an old strategy, dented and dinged from years of the airlines losing pricing power to their low cost competitors.

I did the Templehof tour a couple years ago and it was fascinating indeed. We got to visit the bomb shelters in the basement, tour the gate area and departures hall, go up on the roof (was intended to double as a stadium for airshows but was never finished because of the war). The empty departures hall was really cool and felt like a walk back in time. I highly recommend if a person has a few spare hours in Berlin although I’m guessing they’ve suspended tours for the moment if it’s being used as a refugee camp – I wasn’t aware of that. A good place to house them though as the building is massive!
