The series continues, next up is the IHG All-Inclusive Hotels with points. There are only three!
10 great airport bars for a perfect cocktail. I hope these are better than that one in Atlanta, One Flew South, which I found to be incredibly overrated.
For my Michigan based readers, heads up that Lufthansa is switching to a 747-400 for the Detroit-Frankfurt flights beginning July 2nd!
All the talk about autonomous cars…and here comes Airbus planning to test self-flying air taxis by the end of the year!
What a fun post, a roundup of the oddest hotel jobs in the world. Tartan butler and Shabbat technician lol!
Which US airport has the fastest internet? I had no idea the Detroit airport was #1 in cellular speed.
I don’t know much about these guys and this is NOT an endorsement or recommendation. I just like to share good content. And this personal finance post is a gem! The Humility Factor. Some selected excerpts:
The stock market is a machine that will eventually humble every single one of us. It doesn’t care what you think it should do. It has no alignment with your political, social, or environmental beliefs. It is simply a mechanism for transferring your hard-earned money into an asset that will fluctuate over time. Sometimes that means higher and sometimes that means lower.
- “This is the top.”
- “Sell everything.”
- “The bear market starts when we breach _____ level.”
- “Oil can’t possibly go any higher/lower than ______.”
- “Rising rates are going to destroy ___________.”
- “__________ is the next big thing.”
- “__________ is the next Warren Buffett or George Soros.”
The asymmetric risk of acting on these types of statements is off the charts.
This is also how many advisors raise money. They prey on your fears by embellishing hidden risks that only they understand how to avoid. They bolster their ego by talking about calling tops or bottoms based on “skill” or cherry-picked statistics. They embellish investment opportunities they have uncovered that the rest of the world has yet to identify. Ultimately, it’s marketing over substance.
There are many ways of achieving the same outcome with your investment portfolio. However, a small dose of humility is a sensible way to ensure you don’t get caught off guard by thinking you have it all figured out.

Ok, this is not a joke it appears. French Polynesia signed deal to build world’s first floating city.

A writer at Doctor of Credit shares the spreadsheets he/she is using, very helpful for some in case you are not using a system yet. Then again if you have read this far…you probably do so! Maybe share it with a newbie 🙂
This just makes me sick! An “expert” selling plastic so hard by…neglecting to tell his readers that Amex signup bonuses are good only once per card per lifetime. Not even once! Because these salesmen get paid PER approval, THINK! Please note that to get the full 100k points card holder must spend $15k! Okay, I am not done with this, lets look at it more closely to see what SELLING product is all about with my comments in brackets:
“…you have just three days left to take advantage of the offer. This offer has been around since early October, and a lot of people have taken advantage of it. If you haven’t yet, I’d highly recommend doing so.” [Do not expect to see a card they get paid to sell NOT be recommended!]
“I know that’s a big minimum spend, though nowadays you can put almost anything on a credit card, including tax payments.” [this is how people get ruined…]
“While the card has a $450 annual fee, it comes with all kinds of amazing perks that help offset it” [I am sure they are amazing, i should start using this word, maybe it will help my conversions lol]
“The fantastic sign-up bonus on the Amex Business Platinum Card is ending in just a few days. Not only does the card offer a great sign-up bonus, but it offers excellent long term perks, a redemption option that increases the value of all your Amex points, and the card is generally quite easy to be approved for. If you haven’t yet applied for this card, I’d highly recommend doing so ASAP.” [Just threw up all over! Oh great, two days left of this crap!]
And I leave you with this…

I love Dan’s Deals. He is the one who consistently posts great deals and does very thorough reviews of benefits, etc. For these reasons, I follow him.
He has some non-fiduciary tendencies that every reader should be aware of:
1) the one you bring up: he often neglects to remind readers of the ONCE per lifetime/2 years/7 years rules.
2) if he has a link to something where he will benefit, he will neglect to mention a portal that you could go through to enhance the value. In fact, he has censored my comments when I try to help others by posting that
3) his hyped Amazon “deals” are VERY hit and miss. He gets a commission when you follow that link…apparently, he even gets a commission if you follow, dont buy, but buy something else later. Too bad you can’t filter out the crap in his Twitter feeds.
I’ve been hit by all of these 3 from Dan but still read the guy. That’s love (or masochism).
TBBTheDude says
Agreed 🙂
Dan says
If you read the inside scoop (DDF) more closely then you would probably know how to work around the lifetime rule.
But one thing I won’t do is spoonfeed, sorry!
schlomo says
No one asking for your baby food. But if your answer to “why don’t you warn your readers” is “you must wade through the muck in the forums”, well that’s a very poor answer indeed.
It doesn’t hurt you (or your wallet much) to put a gentle reminder about churning limits on each card that you are promoting. And it gets you more respect.

Why do all the big bloggers keep pounding their readers? Because it works!
For smaller sites (like mine)…it really does not make a big difference.
They run a business, they have mouths to feed and quotas to meet. I get that. But I also think that stating that the phucking Amex 100k Business Platinum (like that ridiculous OMAAT post pump) is once per lifetime to the newbies that it is “targeted” for (pun intended) is the right thing to do.
On the Amazon affiliate links…every time you click on them, the site gets commissions on all Amazon buys for the next day. Or is it 24 hours? Same things works with all these pimping “Buy miles and points” links…
It’s a dirty world out there. It’s about Win, win, win baby…Man, I missed Alec Baldwin this past Saturday.
I need to get some sleep.

Hey Mileage Update, how do you excuse the orange dude comes back AGAIN with the 3 to 5 million illegal votes for the popular vote he did not WIN huh? We have elected a madman psycho as President and all the kiss asses around him keep taking this shit…What is this, Day 3 or 4?
Hang on.
For the record: I voted Republican for Michigan governor and will vote for him again if he runs. I doubt you EVER voted Democrat!
Just can’t believe you thought Trump is better qualified than Hillary Clinton. Amazing! Not the Amex Business Platinum 100k card offer.
Border tax? From the free trade Republicans? Win on trade? WTF man! Trade=we trade/negotiate/back and forth…the majority wins, it’s good for business and you know it. Then again, this was the guy with Trump steaks.
And the press secretary to become an internet meme in his FIRST conference, wow!
The freak show is just getting started…
This guy is insane…
Your pragmatic amigo 🙂
MileageUpdate says
I voted Ross Perot in 1992, Clinton in 1996 and Obama in 08. Hillary Clinton wasnt qualified at all in my opinion.
TBBTheDude says
Wow, I am impressed.
My opinion still is that Hillary was more qualified than Trump. I mean, come on!
I voted for Nader because I did not like Gore. Thankfully, Michigan was not a contested taste back then so I don’t fell horrible. Since then I vote for the lesser evil, EVERY time!
