I am practicing my speech now..
“I would like to thank legend ScottCastle…”
Brenton says
I’ll gladly take silver to the above legend.
So I ended up picking Grand Cayman, and for the second time in two weeks on United I get a text telling me my flight is delayed due to incoming aircraft. I was able to rebook both times on different carriers, but at a considerable amount of my time invested, lost hours b/c of extra travel, and interruption of sleep.
I’ve only flown United twice in the last seven years. Whoever doesn’t have a bad experience today traveling, you’re welcome, because I just took one for the team.
TBBTheDude says
Thanks for taking one for the team. Wow man, that is some bad luck flying United! Hope Grand Cayman makes up for it!

I applied (and got approved) for the 100k AMEX. I’ve got 5k MR points right now so if they want to freeze them it’s no big deal. The mental calculus around applying for cards now is crazy, can’t just pull the trigger.
1. Is it likely the issuer will freeze my points? (more of a risk with AMEX than Chase, can I make this spend without MSing?)
2. What does this do to my 5/24 status? (in my case, extends it from July 2017 to September 2017… worth it, plus I already got the CSR)
3. Can I use the airline credit before the end of the year (boy I hope e-gift certs on Delta still work!)
4. When are my and my wife’s Global Entries expiring? (e.g. is the $100 credit going to be useful)
5. Does TBB have an affiliate link for this??
(Note to the CC companies: I checked TBB’s site for a link even though I knew they were direct links only!)
It’s a different game, errrr hobby …. right now I’ve got a bunch of UR points that I’m trying to burn. If the roles were reversed and this was a Chase offer, and the shenanigans that went on in May were possible, I never would have jumped on it. It also puts me in a position where I have more “flexible points” than I really want….. In the proprietary Scott Castle Valuation Algorithm I value all points at their cash value until I actually use them for something, then I value them at nothing cause they’re gone! (h/t reality)
I forwarded this to a friend who asked me if he should do this or the 70k CSP. I told him 70k CSP… not sure if that was right but was my gut instinct…
TBBTheDude says
Great feedback and the so different mental calculus that takes place now before all these restrictions came into being.
Good luck, hope you get your 100k. I would not do any MS because Amex is so jumpy these days…but if you can not get the min spend any other way…MIX IT UP with smaller amounts if possible.
Love your algorithm!
I am about to hit the gym…before the eating Olympics start!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I will try to do a short post tomorrow…but I may be comatose.
I’ve been seeing so many posts from DansDeals today….omg! All selling stuff!

I think (For a lot of us) the 5/24 rule probably isn’t as big a deal as we make it out to be. I’m sitting near 250k UR and don’t really have a plan for them.
I have a friend I got started in this 6 months ago who is sitting on 450k from both sapphires x 2 and both inks, but his wife isn’t willing to go anywhere for more than 2 days because of 3 kids under 5.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yeah, I hear you…
At this point I have so many and so spread out and no flexible plans at all due to some family circumstances…I am just focusing on pimping my links in my blog and bidding my time to wait for the CSRs 🙂
And Go Detroit Lions!!!

Well nuts! I’ve been waiting a while for a juicy Amex platinum offer to come along, and I pick this week to disconnect from points and miles for a few days. Bah, humbug!
On the positive side, I successfully spatchcocked a turkey today.
TBBTheDude says
I googled “spatchcocked” 🙂
Ryan says
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I’m filled up on turkey, pie, and booze…

I actually did not load up as usual…
Until the baklava came out at night…I stopped at 4!
I love this holiday…until Friday morning rolls around and always say “Why, why, why..did I eat so much, why?”
This year it was even better at the Detroit Lions won…again…in the 4th quarter!
