Gold! Just left the best cooking class I’ve ever taken. Plus ate some great food! Thanks for all the lists, George! They are always a lot of fun
Mike says
What ever happened to Travel Is Free Drew? No blog posts, no podcasts. At all. Looks like he is working non stop for his boss The Points Guy. Good boy
Mike says
Also, Miles Per Day private memberships on Slack are now up to $40 per month! Hey, it is all how to earn miles and points to travel for “free”.
I am not sure if you are so full of integrity not to really monetize your 7 year old blog or you are just a moron like you joke sometimes or…you are just a really weird dude! Whatever it is, your blog is appreciated. And good that this is your final Best of Lists blog, time to get back on track next week, phew!
Sam says
Drew rarely posted on his blog. Now he never posts for his employer The Points Guy. Being consistent in your work endeavors is important for success.
My guess: He’s down in the lab builidng a sellable mechanism for finding reward flights. This will be the moral equivalency of McDonalds selling Tums (or Weight Watchers starter packs).
TBBTheDude says
He is busy working on the TPG app. Which apparently will blow everyone away…when it comes out. It will show the $ value of your miles/points at, of course, always ridiculous high valuations…per TPG Valuation Guide LOL.
Brian Kelly’s mother was concerned after he got in bed with said bank with the CSR launch…that he may be known as The Chase Guy…LOL!
Lost respect with that Ritholtz dude for giving this guy a platform to sell, what else, conversions.
Oh, Brian is just an employee. And he still not revealed the price he sold back in 2012. Most founders move on…he must need the money. Like Ingy who is out hustling for writing gigs. If he had only not sold so early. And apparently even his pal Brian will not give him any writing gigs. Talk about someone who must REALLY need the money, SAD!
To Mike on the question above, the answer is: All of the above. Sad bwahaahahaha!
Hey Carl, take it easy on the food man….I guess no New Year diet resolutions for you? I am in…Day 3 🙂
Monday post will be huge!
If January does not get 10 conversions, I will REALLY go to twice a week posting, Monday and Friday. Really guys! It will be three months in a row…tick tack boom?
Carl Pietrantonio says
Not to worry on the food. I can still fasten my pants so haven’t gained TOO much weight, George!
But soon, it will be back to the USA and get back to the real world. Gotta say, 3 months on the road is great but that pile of mail waiting for me is gonna be a PITA!
DML says
Hello from San Diego!
Thanks for the fun lists!
Carl Pietrantonio says
Ah, Sandy Eggo! Born and Raised just north of there in Vista, up in North San Diego County. Great city! Best zoo in the world, too!
GringoLoco says
Cue the annoying Disney song, neighbor. Escondildo was my childhood home!
Carl Pietrantonio says
Hey neighbor!! Haha! I was there 1957-1986, then have been back visiting since. The area has really changed over the years, that’s for sure!
Sam says
Hey Buzz,
How come The Points Guy and the other big blogs aren’t writing about AA shutting down people who set up multiple AA accounts to skirt the 24/48 month credit card app rules?
Oh, those mail/email apps didn’t pay affiliate commissions?
Never mind.
Brenton says
I liked the post on OMaaT where he theorized that “OMAAT readers mostly play by the rules (because on other sites this seems like a huge topic of conversation)”

This is the guy who quit after he had enough because Marriott complained and took his Bonvoy post down lol.
Out of 100 writers…they let some things to squeeze in 🙂
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Not 100 writers. At least 30 work for the SEO department….keeping me from cracking the top 5 pages of Google searches LOL.

— George, you get referrals from me any time there’s not a better offer elsewhere. It’s the best you can ask.
— 10 commissions/month was more reasonable in the early years of your blog, but maybe not now, considering how everything’s evolved (I used to get 10+ new cards/yr, but now…! 🙁 ) + the fact that stoopid newbs don’t hang here.
Doing the right thing is seldom the most profitable. You need to account for the internal (priceless?) positives that fighting a good fight brings, in every part of your life where you do the right thing over profit/expediency.

Thank you.

I know, how sad. Spoke with a blogger yesterday who told me “I can even remember the last time I got a credit card”. So, yes, I get it. But still…after 7 years it would not be so hard…heck mi familia is usually good for one or two at least here and there! If I had concentrated on promoting the site to rope in some newbs in those seven years hey? 🙂 Like I always say, enjoy it while this baby lasts. Even at ten conversions this is sushi money for me just to make me feel better about fighting the good fight and making the world a better place…while Miles Per Day selling memberships at $40 per month #wow. Doing the right thing for over seven years is getting harder as I look around ya know 🙂
Ok, tomorrow’s posts is BIG!
TBBTheDude says
Almost let the post go this morning at 6.30 am…My sense of what day it is has been a little off 🙂 Caught it today around 5 am…and fixed it. So, Monday’s post is…BIGGER!

IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: NO WARTIME PRESIDENT HAS BEEN DEFEATED FOR REELECTION!
August 18, 2012Ronald 24 Comments
An interesting point to remember with 80 days left to the Presidential election, and just two days to August 20, precisely five months to the inauguration!
NEVER has a President in wartime been defeated, including two times when war clouds hovered, but we were not technically at war!
Witness the following:
James Madison, the War of 1812, reelected in 1812
Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War, reelected in 1864
Woodrow Wilson, World War I, not at war but nearing it, reelected in 1916
Franklin D. Roosevelt, World War II, not at war but nearing it, reelected in 1940, and then at war, reelected in 1944.
Lyndon B. Johnson, using the Vietnam War issue through the Gulf of Tonkin, elected in 1964
Richard Nixon, Vietnam War, reelected in 1972
George W. Bush, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, reelected in 2004
This list does not include James K. Polk, who chose not to run for reelection AFTER the end of the Mexican War in 1848; William McKinley, reelected AFTER the Spanish American War’s end, in 1900; Harry Truman, who chose not to run in 1952 during the Korean War; Lyndon B. Johnson, who chose not to run during the Vietnam War in 1968; and George H. W. Bush, who was triumphant during the Persian Gulf War, but then lost 18 months later for reelection in 1992, due to the bad economy and the candidacy of Ross Perot helping Bill Clinton to win in a three way race.
So the odds of Barack Obama winning reelection with the Afghanistan War raging are excellent!

So, intelligence agencies were so bad (calling out Russia) and now suddenly their intelligence became actionable.
Thought the guy was going to keep promises made…like, bring back all troops and end the endless wars…LOL!
So….what if they take out, say, Pompeo because…based on their own intelligence the guy was preparing more attacks and they had to act. How would that make us feel huh?
I could go on….If you feel this guy has it all together to make good decisions…the joke is on you.
He is now theatening on Twitter to retaliate by bombing 52 targets (to account for the 52 Iranian hostages)…I mean, we only go back 50 years? When does the shit end?
If Iraq kicks us out…we have done the impossible, unite Iraq and Iran against us. LOL at us!
Sad thing about all this shit is…gives the Iranian cleric regime more time by uniting the Iranians against…., wait for it, US! I mean….wtf do we gain when we now let them pick targets all over the neighborhood.
Innocents will die…when they did not have to….
And the shit goes on…
Wife and daughter are back from NYC….she cooked curry chicken…bon appetit. And grab your pop corn.

Trump is a wartime president? I thought he was busy pulling out.
The peanut farmer from GA won the war on solar cells on the White House Roof but eventually lost against a B-list actor.
It’s the economy, stupid.
MileageUpdate says
Buzz,
How do you think Iraq and Iran are united in anything? Iran isnt even united. They just got done with a brutal crackdown in Tehran that imprisoned 1,000s and shut off the internet. Your TDS is really affecting you.

I could go on…but it won’t change anything…anything…We are just so polarized it is depressing.
Hopefully this shit ends in the next election. This phucking moron must go. Full stop
MileageUpdate says
You think you are right so of course nothing will change. Its just the way it goes.
Meow says
I didn’t know the US has so many experts on Iran. Hold my beer while I dust off my honorary doctorate in Persian kitten.
You can thank Bush for the close relationship between Iran and Iraq.
