I would like to paste here one comment from the many comments the Mommy Points Nightline piece generated on the ABC website. It was written by lois who should be commenting here, I think she nailed it! Here it is:
The real secret here is that this woman is basically making huge amounts of money by getting people to sign up for credit cards. Her blog is sponsored by American Express, for crying out loud. Every time someone signs up for a credit card through her blog, she gets a check. Much of her travel is subsidized by travel industry interests. Ie: she may stay in a fancy hotel that is being comp’ed to her in exchange for a glowing review on her blog. Please people, your credit is extremely valuable. Do lots of research before diving into something like this, and remember that this woman does not have your best interest at heart. She has _her_ best interest at heart. She makes money by convincing people they should have 20 credit cards. I think it’s insanely irresponsible of her to make money by convincing families they should be doing this. Are you thinking of buying a house? Well, how are 20 hard pulls on your credit report going to look to a mortgage officer? You may also end up losing points on your interest rate, which will quickly eat up any free travel you may have been able to get from her advice. Also, if you are not super diligent and super disciplined with your financial habits, this is a recipe for total disaster. Some people do well in the frequent flyer/credit card game. Most do not. That is why the banks keep it going. They are counting on people messing up. They make money. Mommy points makes money. And most people go in to debt, buy more than they need, or mess up their shot at a good mortgage.

@MilesMath: Congrats! Don’t forget to update your Linkedin profile and add this to the “Honors and Awards” section!
Spencer F: Back to the regular slot! How about we call you Spencer Avis?
William Charles: Save the birds!
Hua: Thanks. Aim was to cut down on the length of posts. Splitting the Blog Buzz to its own and leaving the regular Buzz posts alone, I think, was a great suggestion. The thing is…not sure I have the stamina to do this Blog Buzz stuff daily…so I was thinking to alternate between all positive and all bitchy 🙂 You know I like to mix it up lol.
@icicle: It’s all right…as long as tacos are in there. Hmmm, maybe I go Mexican for lunch today! #inspired

I love how in about a 24 span you went from I’m not doing anymore blog buzz posts to ah f— it I’m doing it everyday. Keep up the good work.
The common man says
seriously! I like to think of TBB as a mad genius – no rules or templates apply!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yeah, I think I am developing a problem with this 🙂
Definitely agree about the mad part…not so sure about the “genius” part lol
Karl says
Yes! 8th!!!! 🙂
This may be slightly off topic but OMG, what’s with all these freaking “lap infant” posts lately? Hey, It’s OK for someone to write up an article that I’m sure may provide a person with some kind of useful information (although I don’t think anyone under 10 should be allowed on a plane).
So, now we have a bunch of me too lap infant articles from such subject matter experts OMAAT, then FTG weighs in… These guys are just like the movie industry (we can’t be assed thinking of something good, let’s just remake old shit or do a part 2) – not a single creative thought in their tiny, affiliate linked brains.
Also don’t they understand lap infants can’t sign up for credit cards or be added as authorized users? 😉
Thanks for letting me vent 🙂
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Funny you mention that as I got done looking at the FTG blog post about them lap infants. And I marked it for colorful Blog Buzz commentary.
Infants can’t sign up for credit cards but their parents can #hint My guess is that latest marketing research shows that the parents are a huge market to cultivate.
Ain’t about creativity, it’s all about conversions 🙂
My blog helps me vent and deal with all the greedy madness of pumping experts 🙂
Karl says
While I’m sure you’ve been told this before, a lot of us DO appreciate your work and writing style! Keep up the good fight!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
Trying not to fold 🙂

What is a fiduciary?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Certainly not the blogger in TBB Ignore list as they put their pockets first and not the reader 😉

lois sounds like a loser who’s just upset that she didn’t get a commercial blog up early to get on Nightline and cash in. What a whining loser.

Chris says
Damn right, stay angry lois and stay Chase-y.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
For some reason, contrary to ingy demand, don’t think lois is ‘one of the angry’s” lol
ABC says
Why stop at “Six Top Credit Cards For International Travel “? There’s a home for all cards and they all work abroad! Once you dip the toe in the water you might as well go all in. With a post like that you just can’t compete with the big players (TPG, OMAAT, VFTW, MMS etc). As the great salesman Gary says “any card/point is better than a hole in the head”. Why leave the Garfield VISA card out of the list?
ABC, always be closing!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Garfield Visa
always be closing
You crack me up!

The ending paragraph is real and responsible financial/credit card advice. #sadface
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yes I agree that you agree that it was good to post here.
My #sadface is added 🙂
Steve says
“Ie: she may stay in a fancy hotel that is being comp’ed to her in exchange for a glowing review on her blog”
Oh c’mon Lois, that’s not true
If you read MommyPoints disclaimer, she CLEARLY stated the her reviews and Amex credit card pushing in those Amex-sponsored posts had nothing to do with Amex paying her to do it
Even if Amex didn’t pay her a dime, i have zero doubt she would’ve done a top 20 list of purchases to make with Amex everyday, and finished it off with something like “20. Go out for dinner – you deserve it!”
TravelBloggerBuzz says
That number 20 was really something! I expect your buddy to post soon 🙂
SteveSucks says
how’s it going shit-sipper? You watching the vote and life miserable as ever? Keep whining, you do it so well.

TravelBloggerBuzz says

Award for best reason to sell Chase cards goes to FTG. Changing the made up name on the CSP in the Chase marketing materials results in 11 affiliate links.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
And just when we thought that this site can not get any lower! Remember when in the last Blog Buzz post I said this: “we will be back selling more of them because we need to show conversions”.
Nothing shocks me anymore at FTG where Credibility is not an asset 🙂
TJ says
Put that on Saverocity, verbatim, and it would be a perfectly crafted parody piece.
