Thoughts on today’s post:
-The linked artilce knocking Sapphire took the pumpers to task. However, I found its material less than compelling. Anyone getting a credit card to go TATL on BA deserves pity, not guidance. Sapphire is 2x on a broad range of travel expenses, and now offers primary coverage on car rentals everywhere and includes places like New Zealand and Ausralia, which many other cards exclude. Plus, at least for me, getting 2x Ultimate Rewards points for restaurants is pretty good value.
-The only good I see coming from Ryan Air flying TATL is that it might keep down prices by others. Anyone thinking of buying a ticket to travel on Ryan should read trip reports by those who have flown them.

I agree — I find I get great value from my CSP and just added a comment to that effect to the travelhack.me post. I eat out (more than I shoud) and do a fair volume of car rentals, plus I have managed to find great value with the price protection benefit.

My point was that the card gets waaaaaay more ink than it deserves. In general, I think the Barclaycard Arrival is superior 🙂
I agree about the Ryan Air effect!
Nice to see you again Hua

Hi George — haven’t been around for awhle because I have been tied up with buying a place. That said, I did use your Amazon link to order a 55″ TV. I hope you enjoy the big bucks on the commission as much as I hope to enjoy the screen! I know you’re not hot on the CSP but I used mine for part of the order because I plan to do a price protection claim.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Hi and thanks!
Did you buy the TV recently? I remember seeing a purchase for a big screen TV some time ago and got excited. Then I never got any credit for it (the credit comes when the order ships, not when it is ordered…which makes sense). There have actually been three LARGE purchases in my Amazon link….got me excited but I never got any credit for it….I think Bezos gladly gives the penny commissions but when it comes to the LARGE orders the dude screws people….of course I can not really prove it. Same thing with the credit cards….I am at the mercy of the “system”. Kinf of like being in the mercy of the Skymiles award search engine LOL.
Any others with more experience with Amazon Affiliates care to comment??
Hua says
Hmm… that’s lovely! I was fooling around with Amazon Affiliates a couple years ago and managed to snag a couple laptop purchases worth of credit… I think one was cancelled out (a return maybe?)
As far as this TV, it was ordered day before yesterday and delivered today… It will be staying in the box for awhile though, as I attempt to do my price protection claim. (Hopefully won’t be trying to do a return!)
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Hmm, nada. I remember seeing a TV order but that was not so soon. I don’t know what’s happening. I am guessing maybe using more than one method of payment made it “ineligible” for TBB…No idea really. I am at the mercy of Bezos.
To all: If you make a big purchase using my Amazon link, let me know please so I can try to track and figure out how they “keep track” of the orders
Raffles says
I do huge amounts of Amazon stuff and I have never figured it out. I have read that they have strict definitions of ‘friends and family’ (who are excluded) and read some stories which imply that Amazon somehow looks into your email contacts on your PC and if the address of the customer is there, it does not pay.
That said, I find it an exceptionally generous programme. It is effectively a ‘donate’ button on Head for Points which lets people feel they have paid their way by only going marginally out of their way.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Thanks for the feedback. For a while there, I thought I was hallucinating! But it became obvious in the big orders. “look into email contacts” sounds horrific, WOW!
It may explain the reason Amazon started off with a bang here but has been dropping…They really caught on quick wife ordering 🙂

Just wondering if anyone has had the CSP for 2+ years and was able to score a retention offer? It basically fell out of usage in my wallet in favor of the Arrival or my signup-baby-of-the-moment.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Anyone?
For me I would go for the Arrival any day before the CSP!
TJ says
Almost 0% chance of retention on CSP. Very very few reported successes, on a very common card.
