We are still trying to get over that award we won the other day. That was a day that will live in infamy! Especially when we have the thankless task of reviewing all the other travel blogs. What was the main theme yesterday? Well, what else…yet another day that yet another credit card’s affiliate links were going to magically disappear from the internet (only to reappear a short time later and we go through the same nonsense yet again!). We will highlight here some of the most ridiculously alarming headlines. Sometimes we wonder what we are seeing coming at us…Are these coming from “travel” bloggers or just plain greedy Chase bank reps hawking (notice I did not say pimping) dangerous plastic to everyone! It absolutely sickens me how many idiots fall for this crap and ruin their lives for ever. Yeah I know, I know….responsibility and all that crap. Sometimes rope (credit cards) should not be ENCOURAGED to be given out to (some) people who will hang themselves…In the end, we all end up paying (bailouts)…Ok, enough editorializing. I think you all know how I feel about this.
BEST OF
Gary’s 20 Immutable Laws of Air Travel. Some of these are so funny and…so true!
1) The biggest person on the plane will probably sit next to you. 3) If the seat next to you is empty when they are about to close the door, the last person to enter the aircraft will be the person sitting next to you. Also, see #1.
4) If you are on the list for an upgrade and there are 4 seats available, you will be number 5 of the list.
Frequent Miler, while other bloggers were busy screaming the sky is falling if you do not click on the expiring Southwest cards, tells us how to Pay Federal Taxes via Credit Card. If we were not so busy reviewing other travel blogs we would be all over this. But, after we started blogging, we have no time for stuff like this. Every Wednesday we went to the $5 movie….after blog started the last movie we saw was SkyFall:-(
I am a sucker for hawker type food in Singapore. My friend Christine Krzyszton of Travel for Boomers wrote a great piece about this today. I have three sisters in law living in Singapore and I am fairly certain I have been to the one in the top picture as they live a few blocks away from it! Christine is the author of “How to see the World in a Weekend” which I had the pleasure of reading while riding the Southwest Chief Amtrak train (in a sleeper cabin of course, come on!)
All was fine until she admitted she likes durian. Whaaaaaaat??? Christine, if you ever bring up durian again it will be the end of our friendship pronto! Warning to others: If you are ever near a durian…you will know it. It reminded me of an animal corpse rotting nearby…NOT kidding. Run, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
Ok, I am a sucker for excellent travel pics, here we have Egypt by Everything-Everywhere
Another blog post about the FTU experience by Angelina at Just Another Points Traveler. Thanks for the kind words too. Regarding the first bump, we all remember our first time, lol.
And just when you thought there was not enough Vanilla going around. See post by Dan at Dansdeals
SOUTHWEST EXPIRING CARDS ALARMING POSTS
“Hurry Up! Today is the Last Day to Get the Southwest 50k Deal and Welcome to a 100k British Airways Card” Travis my man, seriously?
“Southwest Cards Coming to an End” by Deals We Like. OMG, really? Life has no meaning…oh wait, them links are coming to an end?? Oh, phew, thank God the Southwest cards will still be around, yes!
Please donate a dollar for all the hits I send your way, thanks:-) As always, nothing personal!! I had more to post but…I am exhausted!
HALL OF SHAME
We catch everything here at TBB. We even read Chris Elliott’s newsletters (hey, we are always looking for good material!) It was to our shock to see Delta Points mentioned in it. And, to our horror, near the bottom, Chris personally thanks Delta Points for supporting the newsletter. OMG, I believe this is Rule #1 NOT to violate to stay in Boarding Area? Getting in bed with Chris Elliott?? I was looking for a referree to officiate the fistfight between Gary Leff and and Chris Elliott at FRU (in planning stages) and was thinking about giving Rene of Delta Points a shout for help. Well, HELL NO, he is in the bag with Chris Elliott. I don’t know about you but if we at TBB were ever caught doing something like this we would be so embarassed and we would quit blogging immediately and move far away to Australia (hey, maybe you can find a low level Delta award, lol).
ODDZ & ENDZ
My colleague had an amazing blog post today about…well, life in general, titled: “The Fallacy of Saving for Traditional Retirement” It is a philosophy we live by here at TBB. Every once in a while we may have some relapses and get back into our crack habit; thank God our therapist is always there to give us a helping hand and a major kick in the behind to get back to the gym. We love you Suzy, we would not be here without you!
The 45 Most Powerful Images of 2012 Wow!
What did I get myself into? For the record, this operation remains in “beta”!

Been reading TBB since almost day 1 (alright, that was day 3).
I find myself have to come up and buzz against you today becuase… durian is really really good.
Yes it has a horrible smell but the taste is really good.
Face it, the best food is only for those who dare!
Still decide to run away? Try begin with some durian themed dim sum. Those are odorless but the taste remain.

I love durian ice cream! They had it at Straits Kitchen – love that place!

Also had Durian ice cream in the mall underneath the Petronas in Kuala Lumpur. Flavor was interesting, not objectionable. The real fruit is actually quite odd. like onion and cream.

I love what CE does and am proud to support him. He stands up for those who get burned by so many company’s in the travel industry. Plus, there are a few who read his blog who have never been told of the we we travel (and the value of low level seats on Delta). A chance to teach them is just tops!

@ Kim Jong Delta Points: Surprised to see you here commenting. I thought you would be too busy censoring comments on your blog like usual. Or does nobody even comment on or read your blog anymore? Now you have to pay Chris Elliott to drum up readership?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
CE is sure a character. I think he intentionally riles people up…to create traffic. We are good at this here at TBB, lol. So, what was it? $500?, $200? Does he take $50 bucks??? 🙂
TravelBlogger Buzz says
@Anonymous 1: Yeah, people either love or hate durian. Count me in the second camp. I hate it so much I have forbidden my wife to eat it in Michigan where we live! She can have it elsewhere as long as I am not around to smell it. The memory of that smell is still with me…I thought something had died nearby. NOT kidding.
@travel-summary: Durian ice cream, that is some just sick man!
@Anonymous 2: I have been to that mall underneath Petronas. Thanks for the warning, I am not going there again:-)
@deltagoldflyer: CE does his thing, he is just clueless when it comes to our little hobby. I must admit he provides great entertainment. It was just funny to see you in there and him thanking you for supporting the blog. How much did it cost you, $500? If it is $100, I may do it too lol. I added a link to your site by the way, forgot about it last night, sorry about that.

My vote is the latter. And it’s okay, you can call them what they are: Pimps.

BTW, can I put in my application now for one of the speaking positions at FRU? 🙂

Can’t stand Delta points relentless hawking of cc’s. Pretty sure he doesn’t have any readership anymore as you look at his comments. It looks as if MMA’s readership is going down despite his claims to the contrary. I agree chase is pimping cc’s to the general masses like crack. “here just take one sniff of the crack”
Gregorygrady when is the angry mosquito’s thread going live again? I can’t wait to say shenanigans!

I would also like to be added to the speaking list at FRU 🙂

How about TPG getting in TWELVE referral links within a single blog post?
Must have set a record with that one.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Gregorygrady and anonymous (all of them) have been granted speaking gigs at FRU, please forward bios, lol.
The record is 20 ref links within the body of a post. MMS. Today’s TPG post about his roundup of cards was a worthy competitor. Never ever doubt that it IS about the money:-)

I would need a shower after reading TPG or MMS
deltagoldflyer says
@Anon – thanks for reading the blog and am growing faster than ever!
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Anonymous: Not really necessary for the shower reference but if you do need a shower please take one, lol.
@DP-Just imagine if you had some real content:-) Sorry I could not resist the dig. Your blog is perfect for newbs. Nothing wrong with that of course. Actually, the newb market is MUCH MUCH bigger and it makes more sense to pursue. I will still hammer all of you guys wearing my veteran hat. I am listening to a song and writing my blog now, song’s title: “Torment me”…Puuuurfect LOL

A shower after reading TPG or MMA? I don’t care how many showers it takes, I don’t think I would ever feel clean after reading those two blogs. They are filthy to the core.
