MileCards reminds us to use our Skymiles before Massacre Day June 1, 2016 rolls around when Skymiles members are treated like chicken in a slaughter house….meaning, you wouldn’t know how you are going to get screwed, you just know it is going to happen. Lol, just made that up. Actually, I tried to burn some more to Tokyo Narita from Detroit, apparently I must fly on Wednesday only to get a lowest mile award. Typical Skyshit as usual. In addition, it appears American Airlines Flagship First Class service between New Yorkโs JFK and Los Angeles or San Francisco airports is wide open next summer for 32,500 AA miles each way.
Higher offers are coming for these cards. If you see a pumping blogger screaming “Last Chance” and “Hurryyyy!” tell them to go do themselves!
Here’s to chasing our dreams by Caroline Lupini. Well, this hit a cord, reminded me of my own rants but in a much more kind and gentle way. I feel like this sometimes around here when I bust my ass to bring you a value added and entertaining blog and then I look at the actual support I get and wonder “WTF is wrong with me!”. Thankfully, I do not need this to eat. But “making it” is extremely difficult in this online space and requires incredible challenges in your ethical thresholds. I just hope so many of you wannabee Titan bloggers will not keep on struggling only to realize years later that your much more marketable skills have been neglected to such nth degree that your available choices then are just not very good.

American Islands. Great list!
The message in this personal finance blog post is probably the best advice out there: You Should Max Out Your Retirement Accounts as Early and Often as Possible. If you are struggling to chase your dreams you may be hurting yourself in the long run. I don’t know what YOUR answer is. Find it. It could be some sort of balance?

Wow, this post sums up pretty much my whole way of living… Burn Skypesos, tryout AA321T service, love the craft beer in US and do some touring of breweries, and of course max out our 401a, 403b, and Roth IRA to the max x2. What else is there? Well We also love traveling to islands in the U.S. as well!!! Wow.
Well done, thank you. In all honestly, I would be hard pressed to even do a contribution post, unless it is something mundane as bank rules on churning or how to sweet talk to CSRs in South Dakota for Citi approvals? Back door Roth IRA contributions? or ordinary income allocation of bonds/MLPs/REITs into Roth for tax efficiency? LOL.
Cheers,
PedroNY

Burning Skypesos: I hope it is not my way of living as it totally drains me lol.
Open to anything if you have the time. But not personal finance. One link per day here is enough. MLPs and tax efficiency don’t come in handy come 1040 time ๐

Inside of Roth, shouldn’t matter, right?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Oh yep, I missed that. Correct. But still, these things are rarely worth the baggage & fees they come with. I am sure some can work out and “hacker” types can make them work though ๐

I really liked that post, love these introspective posts, they are…cathartic indeed. When are you back from India?

I’m not understanding what’s happening July 1 with SkyMiles. I thought they did away with the award charts last year, and since then it’s been dynamic pricing. Is it just that the there is no availability showing (right now) at what used to be the “saver” level after July 1st?
I used to fly nonrev quite a bit on Delta. It has been so difficult lately. Even my daughter the pilot has a hard time getting the jump seat. If you fly out of a Delta hub there may be 40 employees on the standby list.
Here’s the problem: people are buying seats on Delta, and they are paying out the wazoo for them. I went on a short trip recently to Biloxi and figured I could nonrev back to Atlanta from New Orleans, Jackson, MS, or Mobile. Nope! Flights were full/oversold. Cash prices were close to $400 or 32,500 miles for a 250-300 mile trip. I ended up taking the Greyhound bus!
They do an excellent job of revenue management, keeping the flights full at high prices without having to pay too many passengers off for IDB or VDB. I would be thrilled if I was a stockholder, but as a nonrev or award ticket passenger, I am SOL.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
“Earlier this year Delta announced that it would start charging whatever it feels like any given day for award tickets that begin June 1, 2016 or later.”
I used to get bumped on Northwest all the time. Ever since Delta popped in it has been a brutal dry run. I have a friend who is a Delta pilot and his family is having the same issues as you. Like you said, if you are stockholder it is fine but for everyone else is just brutal!

Present company not included, LOL. I’m perplexed, fellows, I’ve had a great run with Delta here in NYC. Of course, it’s different for ATL captives, but for international travel, just hop on to New York where there is no shortage of options. Seriously! I burned all my miles with DL in the summer and missed my SkyPesos so much, I had to get me more. Booking J anywhere in the world with no drama. Much better availability than UA or AA.
GlenGarry GlenRoss says
I believe they are already doing it. However I find AA’s chart just as distasteful. Not sure why you could be happy with them and mad a Delta. To each his own I guess. The only part I find amusing is pretending like one big US airline is different than another. Its as bad a the political D vs R stuggle. Most ppl too stupid to realize its all the same toilet of crap.
