Another short eclectic collection of a few links that, you know, blew my mind and fit the blog mission. While I am tending to things of higher priority for now…
10 Bars at the End of the World. This is a MUST read, wow! Hey, see you all at the Christian’s Cafe at Pitcairn Island? #notgonnahapen If anyone has a selfie in the top 4, send it to me and I will post it here. Heck, I will even link back to your site if you have one, what will happen next will be, for sure, shocking!
The Free-Quent Flyer wrote a post on Thought Leadership and stuff. Some interesting excerpts:
Gary Leff knows one big, stupid thing – When you visit View from the Wing, you are immediately informed that you’re in the presence of a Thought Leader In Travel… it’s obvious what Gary Leff’s single, internally consistent vision of the loyalty industry is: loyalty programs are the single greatest invention in the history of marketing, and travel companies tinker with them at their peril. There are many reasons this is stupid, and I encourage you to come up with your own.
On the other hand, his insistence that the loyalty programs are sabotaging their own success through devaluations and a focus on revenue seems to fall on completely deaf ears, possibly because a graphomaniac internet enthusiast has no influence over the business practices of massive global enterprises.
But there is an alternative to Thought Leadership: taking the world on its own terms. Understanding that loyalty programs will continue to devalue, with or without notice.
I think the term “Thought Leader” is a bunch of marketing BS. Also, the word expert thrown out by so many when their experience is, well, lacking. Don’t get me started with so many blogger experts in miles and points now…
Ok, now for something deeper: Epidemics of Insanity: Euripides, Mao, and Qutb How virulent contagions of political fanaticism spread across the globe—or, what the Muslim Brotherhood and its descendants share with The Little Red Book. Fascinating stuff, it’s about creating alternative realities…I am seeing parallels of this with the Trump phenomenon insanity.
And I leave you with this…This is how TBB gets it done #winning
Please help bloggers you appreciate & make a positive difference in your life by spreading the word about their blogs, emailing and commenting and using their few $ links, thank you!

+1 for Pitcairn but someone please coordinate properly — don’t want to arrive on a Saturday and wait a week for a cocktail.
Loved the links from yesterday.
Sad link from today:

Guess I need to do an NYC trip?
Lastly a question for all the Buzzers — anyone ever done the Ethan Allen train on Amtrak (https://www.amtrak.com/ethan-allen-express-train)? If I’m going so far north, might as well go a bit more and see some fall color…

Atlas Obscura really came out of nowhere for me. I’ve followed them for most of 2016, but they have an impressive amount of posts each day and I just heard on NPR that they have a new book and book tour.
I will also attend the first annual TBB super mega DO at pitcairn. I bet we could even charter a boat from tahiti to take advantage of lower crowds…

Am I becoming a Travel Thought Leader???
I was just approached to do a post and a giveaway for the Club1Hotels.com site. It’s the same site View from the Wing did a similar post/giveaway.
Well, I responded with some questions that will likely lead the person asking to put me on a “Do Not Contact” list because this TBB dude is too weird and wants to be too transparent which will kill conversions….

Funny comments about the Pitcairn TBB DO!

I’m up for the Pitcairn DO!! 🙂
I loved this bit from the bar in Antarctica:
“The bar was built by carpenters during the station’s British stewardship, although they were supposed to use the wood to build a new pier for the complex. Instead they decided the base needed a place to drink.”
Those are my kind of people!
These all look interesting, I’d love to check out the Sunland Baobab . Now, a DO at Laffitte’s Blacksmith Shop would be feasible.
Excellent article on VFTW!! It’s entertaining sometimes, albeit in a pathetic way, seeing GTL tilt at the loyalty program devaluation windmills.

Nice post. Very interesting. While not in the top 10 and sorta a restaurant instead of a bar I would include Hitlers Eagles Nest in the top 50. Only problem is that too many tourist show up there daily.
