TBB Blog Mission: To Entertain. Educate. Inspire. In That Order!
All you ever needed to know about one of the hotel credit cards that does not get much play in the blogosphere: Fairmont Credit card.
Oh, this one hit the nail in the head! My comments in brackets: Maybe Everyone Should Be Quiet for a Bit
There are too many people filling every possible orifice of the Internet with their idiot opinions and comical prejudices and poorly-constructed arguments. [ Oh yes!]
It’s painful to read and it makes finding the few gems out there a task so laborious that even the most dedicated seeker of readable prose finds herself resigned to defeat and guiltily clicking on something that promises to tell her “here’s how” or “we’re obsessed with” just to keep from being alone with her own thoughts. [Hey, are you talking to meeee? Add to the mix that I am doing it for almost for free and the only buyout offer I ever got contained not a whole but partial Panera gift card man!]
It turns out most people don’t have anything very interesting to say and they’re actually a lot worse at saying it than we previously anticipated. [Yes yes yes! Are we repeating ourselves here?]
The best we can hope for is that this idiot idea that video is the next big thing — and this time it’s going to happen, they tell us — actually turns out to be true and everyone moves away from words because there’s no money in them. Then, and only then, will the people who write on the Internet be the people whose only reason to do so is that they want to, or that they’re too ugly for Facebook Live (although if you have seen much Facebook Live of late I think you will agree that the bar here is comically low) [Ha, you will see TBB join Facebook Live after he gets on Snapchat….bwahahaha]
This article is about the killing of the gorilla at the Cincinnati zoo, which was a tragedy. And it was the right thing to do. And this article pretty much expresses how I felt about it. And, so sadly, I agree with Donald Trump on this one. What the hell is going on? Now I wait for the hater who will unleash on me for spewing my political views while he/stays mum on ridiculous anti TSA venom all over the blogosphere.
Are you afraid of the dark patterns? Shit companies do online to get you to…stay, barf! Really JetBlue? Really Hillary?
How “boring’ Greece stunned the world to win Europe 2004. Still, one of the most improbable athletic accomplishments in the history of sports! I watched the final in a restaurant in Chicago’s Greektown. You won’t believe what happened next..for several days afterwards. That “team feeling”, when it happens, can move mountains!
What a stunning picture by NASA! Stargazing from the International Space Station
The state of the web. By Mary Meeker. Not my favorite person but her annual presentation is always a good one. More fascinating charts within.

It’s an amazing place. If only it weren’t this crowded. F*&^ing tourists, they ruin everything. 🙂

That performance of Greece at the Euro Championships was a pain to watch and utterly horrid football. I hope your team doesn’t play such uninspiring soccer. :p
TravelBloggerBuzz says
That Greek team was a TRUE team man, it was an amazing team. Built by a beloved German. That year was the high for the nation; it has been a free fall ever since.
Horrid? I care to disagree! Argentina in 1990 World Cup performance was truly horrid. And they were one of the favorites! How do you dare criticize the true underdogs, the tiny nation of Greece that wrecked the other big shooters. Nobody could score on Greece man! Now there is a beauty in that! DEEEFEEEENSE!

One of these days, we’ll do the Fairmont card.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
With Accor buying Fairmont I just don’t see the card lasting a year from now. You have been warned…again!

The great thing about the internet is that everybody has a voice. That’s also the terrible thing about the internet.

Bankrate has how many voices? 😉

I did the Fairmont card last year and have until the end of this year to make my redemption. I’m hoping for the Lake Louise, but I’m open to other suggestions?
I know there’s a lot less of them, but when you consider the breakfast/spa credit, room/suite upgrade annually, plus the fact that meeting the minimum spend got me a $25 amazon gift card, I think it’s a better value than Hyatt. We’ll see…
TravelBloggerBuzz says
It’s a gem of a card. Hope it lasts….
Banff Springs is very nice too. Quebec as well.
Checking out the Plaza in New York in a few weeks. Got so many certs and gc’s to use 🙂

“ridiculous anti TSA venom”
Oh, wow, you really are a pro big government nut, aren’t you?
You keep espousing your “personal finance” smarts…but yet you never refer to how much bernie’s or Hil’s taxes increases will smack those to claim to have as clients. Are you in fact a fiduciary?
Brenton says
Do you consider fiduciary duty and moral obligation to your fellow humans to be mutually exclusive?
MoJo says
Are you trying to equate paying taxes to a moral obligation? Puleeeze.
Brenton says
Sorry, I didn’t see you single-handedly standing over there helping the sick and the poor.
“If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don’t want to do it.” – Stephen Colbert
MoJo says
You quoted Stephen Colbert so I guess that means you win as there would be no logical follow-on response.
Separately, the still stands on the “ridiculous anti TSA venom” comment.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
“anti TSA venom” – Let me explain. This is referring to that Gary guy at View From The Wing blog who has been in a horrific anti TSA rant mode for YEARS now! Not a day goes by it appears that he just whines about the TSA and how bad they are. I mean, they may suck a little bit but hammering the same old arguments NON STOP makes it VERY annoying! And then people here complain about MY whining. NOTHING compares to that. WOW!
At this point, TSA is here to stay in its present form.
I can’t stand Bernie, he is in la la land. I don’t like Hillary in general but compared to the alternative I wish I could vote for her more than once!
Proud to be a fidcuciary since DAY ONE in my business. Just could not sell junk. Not even to my mother in law lol.
It has been established long ago here that I agree with Brenton…pretty much all the time.

Is it moral to not pay one’s taxes and free-ride off the police, the roads and highways, the national defense, the public school system, the fire department, the transportation systems, and other public goods, all of which are generated by the hard-earned money, paid as taxes, of other people’s labor?

RE: Gorilla in zoo article. Aside from my feelings on zoos generally (generally miserable places for animals to live), the article about how the mother shouldn’t be blamed is irresponsible and frankly, absurd. I have 2 kids so I’m not saying this as an inexperienced know-it-all.
Some of the arguments are:
1. No one can watch their kids 24 hours/day. Sure, but watching them in situations where they could easily put their lives at risk? That shouldn’t be too hard.
2. She has 4 kids so it’s hard to watch all of them. Holy f’ing shi*. Don’t have 4 kids if you are irresponsible! Or don’t take them all to the zoo if you can’t watch them all.
3. This hadn’t happened in 38 years – he was making this argument to counter the claim that maybe the zoo’s barriers were unsound – but, doesn’t see that if something were so successful, it takes true negligence to overcome it.
Basically, I find it convenient these days to say that people shouldn’t be held for their actions, even if they were not intentional. Never once does the article say, “if you’re going to the zoo (or wherever), make sure you protect your children since they’re prone to wander off”. That would be a more powerful message.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Raj:
Judging from my kids…I think you are being a bit unfair and the venom directed towards the mother is a bit too much. My kids have done some crazy things even under our watch.
I agree with your views about the zoo.
Things happen with little kids. That was one of them. She is probably a wonderful mother and I think it is a little too much to be so beaten up. Just like the TSA. At the end of the day, no terrorist attacks. Until that happens, I would like them to be acknowledged about this FACT.
Love the controversies here….my Alexa rankings must be through the roof, woohoo!

I had the Fairmont credit card with free nights. They have very few locations. For the only two I could have used and wanted to use, I was refused.
