A Plane Crash, A Glacier, And An Entrepreneur: How Icelandair Opened Up Air Travel For Everyone
What a fantastic story and history lesson. This is how it all started. I am talking about the low cost airlines. In 1952. All due to Alfred Eliasson, the scrappy CEO of Icelandic Airlines. The story how he dug a crashed airplane out of a glacier is wild. The story goes on about how the airline got around regulations and how it grew. Alfred died in 1988, RIP. There is a documentary in the link but it is not translated in English…how I would have loved a translation!
Scarier than the Living Dead
This is a must read. It is about the current state of, well, everything in the US political climate. The chasm between the two camps, the Knowledge Economy and Trumpism. How this dude comes up with stuff like this is amazing…I am only posting eclectic quality content here, go away if you click on moronic click bait shit! #THINK
It’s sad that this is where we are. I don’t think most people want to be compelled to choose a team within one country, but the environment we’re in now practically demands it. This is deeper than political affiliation or just the usual city versus rural heuristic. It’s cultural. We’re supposed to be one culture, generally speaking. Maybe once we were. Or maybe we never were and it’s only becoming more obvious now. Differences in income and opportunities, magnified by Instagram glamor shots and Facebook status updates, are driving people crazy and forcing them onto teams. And teams discourage independent thought.
It gets scarier…
Substitute “corporate attorney” for graphic designer or evening news anchor or financial advisor or web developer in your mind. Imagine a world in which those skills suddenly had no meaning, no utility. Now think of the millions of your fellow Americans who have been made obsolete by technology or foreign trade over the last few decades – or live in constant fear that they are about to be.
I can’t change an oil filter either…
Sexbot Brothels: What Are the Pros and Cons of Robotic Sex Workers?
“Android escorts could take over the sex industry” Seriously? Phuck me…oh, wait…
Sex robots are coming. Just last month, Realbotix launched the beta version of its artificial intelligence app that will pair with its soon-to-be-released robotic heads—heads that will attach to the bodies of silicone sex dolls and eventually full-body sexbots. Many futurists think that by around 2050, such robots could be commonplace.
Well, I will be in my 80s then…maybe there is still…hope? Lol.
Last year there were rumours that European escort service Facegirl.ch was planning to open a cafe that served robot blowjobs and coffee in Geneva, Switzerland.
Is this a dream?
However, a few months ago sex doll agency LumiDolls opened Europe’s first sex doll brothel in Barcelona, Spain, joining the likes of Japan in offering synthetic escorts.
If you click on my links I will travel there and do a trip report! #BOOM
Article goes on to list the good and the bad for such technology…
And ponders the future…
TBB educates readers about the next big thing…Maybe I should get a robot start holding credit cards? Lol.
The Rise and Fall of Toronto’s Classiest Con Man
This is a complete and well deserved takedown of a complete mother fracker. What a giant asshole, can you imagine being a landlord and renting to this guy? Your worst nightmare will come true. How come some people do this shit for so long? I always wondered…don’t they have no shame? No ethics? Not any tiny sense of human decency? Unbelievable! Lock him up and throw away the keys!

Easy first 5 minutes in. What ever happened to Scott Castle? Did he ever really exist?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yeah, has not been seen since…
I wonder if it was indeed just a bot…
DML says
Maybe a card with medical evacuation would have helped? Although bots might not be covered.
TBBTheDude says
If it was a Titan blog, some staffer would get an email from its Editor to work on a blog post and remind hiim/her to add a gazilion of affiliate cc links 🙂
Ingy says
Scott castle was like most of your readers. Short timers. Not much to see or stay for.
But I love tbb

Yawn

“Ingy bot” has a predictable set of templates so it can’t be very advanced AI:
“something something something [insult readers]”
“something something something [personal responsibility]”
“I got out and made so much cash unlike [insult readers and/or insult George]”
TBBTheDude says
Yeah…so boring…It’s always the same non sense…every time I see another one of his comments…I immediately yawn. It’s like automatic!

I iwll make the change when…I get around to it.

Interesting article about Icelandair but kind of weird. It hooks you on at the beginning with couple cool stories, makes couple claims, and then… it’s over? How did it change Iceland? Since when was Southwest found in 1990s?
TBBTheDude says
You make some good points. Still, I loved it so much i left it for…Sunday.
It will appear in View From The Wing with an HT from Alan H. shortly 😉
Taste Fest i Ann Arbor today, 11-5. But cloudy, hope the sun comes out sooooon.
Tony Stark says
” Many futurists think that by around 2050, such robots could be commonplace.”
One reason to live a long and healthy life. This space needs a visionary like Elon Musk to accelerate the progress. Why focus on inhabiting other planets when you can create the perfect sex robot? One possible consequence reproduction rates will further decline. Will Japan be the first one to reach zero?
TBBTheDude says
…As I was about to read an article how Japan is going to be losing one million people per year in the years ahead. Probably the last place on earth where sex robots should appear. I predict they will be…banned lol.
And tomorrow I have a post about how Japanese men work themselves to death.
Japan has…issues.
Or maybe I should skip this because, per mega troll, if I have nothing good to say…I should not say it lol…let alone go to said blog and comment it #theirony
When the time comes and I go to have my latte, I will order it with no whipped cream 🙂

Going back to yesterday post. Why would you praise Jesus that your kid is a pychopath? You think he/she had anything to do with it. Why praise someone who had no effect on the outcome of your kids mental state?
TBBTheDude says
That was more like a figure of speech. I wanted to emphasize the ones not in this situation are so lucky!

Also any thoughts on the lastest attack in London?
TBBTheDude says
Every terrorist attack blows.
How can you not feel and hurt with those affected?
Phucking asshole Trump to react like that…
There is a tweet out there that sums up my feelings. It shows a picture of an IRA bomb aftermath and it goes like this…
“This is London, 1993 after an IRA truck bomb. We didn’t ban Irish people or Catholics, we understood it was just a small group of cunts.”
SumOfAll says
Besides understanding it is a small group and the talking about how terrorists wont break us. Is there anyone actually working on a plan? Doesnt ever seem like there is an end game to this
TBBTheDude says
Ummm, Trump used to say while campaigning that he will have a plan to defeat ISIS in his first 30 days of his administration…still waiting.
Terrorism will never end. It has been with us…for ever.
In one week, we lose more to gun violence in the US than all 3 recent terrorist attacks in the UK.
I think there is a lot happening behind the scenes to prevent more attacks. We just don’t get to know about them.
Have a great week!
Ryan says
I don’t think we ever really were one culture. The Civil War and the long road to the Civil Rights Act and related laws illustrated just one major cultural divide, but there have always been others.
But I think modern communication and the internet have made it more obvious and also worse (yeah I know I’m writing this on the internet – hey what can I say!)…both within the US and worldwide. Everything has to be so “instant”…instant assignment of blame; instant need to value signal so that everyone will approve of you; instant judgment of the presumed guilty or innocent; instant pronouncement that anyone similar to or associated with the guilty person is also just as guilty; etc; etc.
I hate to sound like the Amish but I do wonder sometimes if we’ve gone too far, too fast…or at least without really thinking about what we’re doing. The modern media and internet communication haven’t brought us together, they’ve driven us apart. And I think they will continue to do so unless something changes.
Technology has also made us more self-absorbed. I saw a quote, forget where, to the effect of “The parts that George Orwell got wrong in “1984” were that it turns out we happily purchased the cameras & monitoring technology ourselves…and our greatest fear would actually be that no one is watching.”
We’ve also lost something more esoteric and spiritual within ourselves – not everyone but more of us than in the past. I think that all is enmeshed with the technology enabling us in long-term negative ways. We lose sight of what is important way too easily – and I include myself in that.
I don’t know what the answer is, but it isn’t politicians or governmental systems…those are all just reflections of ourselves so expecting changes there to heal us, would be like fixing a mirror and thinking it will change one’s facial features. To paraphrase George Carlin (I think), “We complain about politicians being assholes…but where the phuck do you think they come from? They don’t fall out of the sky – they come from us…they are us!” True growth has to come from within ourselves!
TBBTheDude says
I think we are all starting to feel that this is not going well…I think the article I posted pointed this out so clearly…I don’t just have a clue about how to do an oil change…I can’t fix anything around the house either, my wife fixes things I should know, it’s embarrassing 🙂
Sometimes in Greece, back when I had closer friends, before we all grew apart…we used to talk for hours over coffee or other beverages about the world affairs, about the meaning of life, about current politics, capitalism/socialism/communism. A bunch of blow hards talking non sense and basically wasting/passing time. What matters was what the phuck did you do TODAY that actually conformed to your values you so easily just talked about? Looking around, not much. All talk, no action. Greeks are sooooo good at that.
In the end, each country elects the leaders it deserves…
Less than an hour for Game 2 of the NBA Finals to start, woohoo!
ABC says
When I was a young man there was a debate about how Orwell got it wrong and Aldous Huxley got it right. Ultimately Neil Postman summarized this debate in “Are We Amusing Ourselves to Death”
While Orwell envisioned a significantly technologically advanced Soviet-style police state on steroids, Huxley envisioned a future where people came to “adore the technologies that undo their capacities to think.”

Catching up on weekend reading and just finished your Sunday Blog. Boy, that “Reformed Broker” article sure gets it wrong. Totally ignores Race in his construct. Larger percentages of Black and Latino US residents are not part of the “Knowledge Economy”, and have felt the ill effects of technology and globalization, far more than has the US white population. And yet they voted overwhelmingly against Trump. The guys that keeps my cars going (African American) are not part of the Trump team. The crew I use to build things for me (Latino) all hate Trump. On the other hand, my in-laws are all white collar workers of one kind or another, and 6 of 10 supported Trump.
Lets not confuse things. Trump used various themes of Race in the same way that Nixon and Reagan did to attract support from Whites who are susceptible to such appeals. His core supporters are motivated politically by racial appeals more than anything. If economic angst were their primary motivator, they would have been Bernie supporters.
That’s not to say that sensible proposals to address the very real employment issues that the “Reformed Broker” so superficially touches on is not important. In the upper midwest, between 5 and 15% of white voters (depending on the geography) who voted for Obama voted for Trump. Race is not the primary factor in how they vote, and proposals along with an honest outreach effort could split these voters from the Trump. Today’s NYT has an article by Jared Bernstein that outlines some of the proposals that could do this.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I think he kept it strictly to economic terms and…cultural. I think he did not want to address race. At all. A few times he did that he got clobbered by hate mail and deleted the comments section 🙂
I think you don’t know how to change your oil too? 🙂
