Good article from Milecards. Though I do think it was done with kid gloves on. I still can’t figure out why people are not bombarding their twitter and FB pages with complaints about this new system. It’s a terrible way to “reward” your best customers.

Big eye roll because I’m grumpy this morning.
Psh… one can run (almost) four marathons in some of the most beautiful places in the world and not have to put up with that much flying and waste. See here: run100s.com
Or heck, try Badwater and hit all five marathons. Then one can donate the extra miles to charity.
Naw, I’m pretty sure it’s about you, author. And if that’s what excites you, go for it. But it’s not about others.
One could conceivably also donate the miles/points/hotels equivalents to the Wounded Warrior Project and encourage others to do so, or just go running across this country. I tend to agree with the comments posted here about charity running.
Also a very good way to help wounded vets: make far fewer of them by not voting for shit politicians that start unnecessary wars. (Or maybe one could reduce personal oil consumption, by say, I don’t know, flying less, so we didn’t have to keep sending soldiers to the Middle East to get maimed. But that’s complicated and a whole other loaf of bread.)
Back to being grouchy and lurking. Disclaimer: I’ve gotten value out of (other) Running with Miles posts. Stay well, George.

@harvson3 I appreciate your comments about my event – I really do. Believe it or not, criticism is always helpful for me to be able to check my motives/work.
Allow me to just give a bit more info. I had originally started my blog because I was traveling to races all over and other runners were surprised that I was able to travel to some of these marathons (even US ones that typically cost more to reach). It has grown in width of interests and readers over the last couple of years.
Anyway, I know that miles and points can be immensely helpful to runners, many of who spend well over $1,000 on average in travel to attend the bigger marathons. I wanted to do something to help them out and let them see that there is a great alternative and a way to save money for other things as well.
Will this event help me? Of course, I will receive visits which helps with my ad revenue. Will I not get clicks on some of the posts leading up to it from current readers? Absolutely, but in the end, I really want to reach more of the running crowd to be a help to them. So, it will likely balance out.
With events like this, it is always a great way to call attention to and raise money for charities. I have done it before and I will do it again. EVerything I said in the post is true about wanting to run for a military charity.
I have run marathons all over the world and in very beautiful places, including running over half of Badwater as a pacer several years ago.
I did something similar years ago and ended up getting some press about it (it was before this was a popular thing to do) and I had several people trashing my attempt (and I was doing it for charity then as well). Some suggested that I use the money instead to buy plugs. 🙂
So, I completely respect your disagreement with me and the event. Thanks for calling it out since it does help me to make sure of my motives. Thanks for the kind words about other posts of mine.
Anyway, sorry for hijacking the comments, George, but thanks for the open forum! Stay well, all!

Amen.
Running for Miles seems like a complete DB. If he really wants to do something for the vets, how about saving all those miles (and hotel points/cash) he’d be using to go on these pointless marathons and donate them to Wounded Vets who need flights/room. Fat chance that’s gonna happen. Much more exciting and self aggrandizing to blather on about how he’s somehow sacrificing or doing a good deed for the vets.
Charlie says
Paul, not sure why you felt the need to resort to name calling. Seems like I have offended you in some way or something. Hopefully, we will have the chance to meet at some point and I could show you I am not that.
I have already said I am trying to expand to help more runners and this is something they understand. I am able to do two things at once and help vets so I am not sure what the problem is? If I did it solely to reach runners, there would be criticism, if I did it solely for vets there would be criticism, doing both at the same time still brings criticism. Guess I can’t win!
Sorry if that part of the post came off differently than I had intended it to be.

Paul: Lighten up dude. You may make the troll reappear go go on about the angries nest or something lol. I met Charlie and he is a good guy. The dude is crazy about running and yes he is skinny! Let him Run With Miles, it’s a free country! And of course you can criticize for free too. This would not happen at the blog of Delta Points. Just wanted you all to know that. I am in a good groove tonight, have no idea why, I got so beat up at my soccer game last night, that other team got Maradona at the last minute to sneak into their team and that dude proceeded to give us a beating we will have a hard time to forget, it was brutal! But not as brutal as running so many marathons so many days in a row, WOW!
Charlie says
BTW, one of my goals is to run across the US and will look forward to doing that at some point. But, my blog would have to be doing REALLY well to allow me to afford that. 🙂

Thanks for the mention George. Yeah, losing out isn’t fun, but losing due to your own stupidity is a f*cking nightmare. 🙁
