ON MY MIND
I need to get my act together on wife’s churning this week finally! Waiting for Amex to come up with a 75k or 100k offer she can qualify for may finally get me to move! #developing
I started doing some preliminary research on my Stavanger, Norway trip next month. I hope the weather holds up, it would totally suck if I can not make it to Preikestolen! I am waiting for my Club Carlson Gold Status to show up from the CC Business VISA (min spend done in just two days!) before I book my 3 nights there. I decided in favor of the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel . I booked the Doubletree at London Heathrow for the night before I fly back to the US. Got it on an advanced purchase rate of just $43 GBP. So, slowly and surely the trip is taking shape…

The Points Guy ran a piece this morning on car rental insurance benefits that come from premium credit cards.
http://thepointsguy.com/2013/03/maximize-monday-choosing-the-best-credit-card-for-car-rental-insurance/
The piece includes referral links for Ink Bold, Ink Plus, Sapphire Preferred, British Airways Visa, Southwest Plus. (Wow!)
But you know what the piece DOESN’T include?
A link to the United Explorer card that actually provides PRIMARY collision damage waiver coverage!
Two possible explanations:
(1) it seems there’s no current affiliate referral link for that card, so why bother pushing something that doesn’t earn?
(2) they don’t actually know what they’re talking about, didn’t realize the United Explorer card has that benefit, but held themselves out as an expert as an excuse to push affiliate links.
Either is sad.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
You said it all! As sad as the FTG post about traveling to Quebec City & highliting the Fairmont hotel and then NOT including the Fairmont Visa links AND including the (usual) Chase SP and Ink links. Guess we now know what cards pay the most. So so sad!

Everyone yells about how great PRIMARY coverage is. Most don’t get it will NOT help you all that much!

Well, if you do an article on car rental insurance I think it deserves to be mentioned at the very least. In addition, the great Gary Leff always makes sure he gets primary coverage:-)
Anonymous says
It’s certainly possible that #2 is true as well, but the reason it wasn’t in the post was because of #1
#2 is the effect to the “cause” which is that the card doesn’t provide a referral
It’s TPG, so nothing surprising. That’s what guys like him, FTG and Deltapoints do.
deltagoldflyer says
@TBB – oh I find no fault in what you said, but I do find fault in Anonymous and most who just say PRIMARY is all that. It is fine, as I say in my post, but if you do not know that your great PRIMARY only goes to 50k or does not cover the car you rented or it does NOT cover another car you hit you could get in a world of hurt!
Anonymous says
Who are these bloggers with referral income making so much money that their rental cars retail for over $50k?
Of course primary collision damage waiver “does not cover another car you hit” because that’s what liability is for. Collision damage waiver addresses collision to the rental vehicle.
These are all great discussions, of course, but exactly the sort of things that should be hashed out in a post that[s all about credit card rental coverage. Including references to the cards which provide primary coverage, no?
Primary is better than secondary. So even if you don’t think primary is great, a post which ignores it is pure affiliate malpractice.

Of course it is, and aside from those that worship at the altar of affiliate malpractice, no one would try dismissing as much.
Don’t worry, tomorrrow is top 10 Tuesday – I’m sure there won’t be any affiliate links in there at all…..
deltagoldflyer says
@Anon – please! You know how many cars/truck/suv’s are over 50k? One’s you may get or get upgraded to? http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/browse/50-100k/ I do agree, and think I posted well, that ANY Visa card, ANY at all, will do fine if you have good car insurance (sure I know you are talking about TPG post).
To me the most import part, that you also “hit”, is liability. I be 90% think if you say the card offers PRIMARY and people will think they are all set. No?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Car insurance remains still a very difficult subject to understand. To this point I still am confused about it, so imagine the general public! I thought I would understand it more after MMS wrote about it some time ago…but even he confused me. So I am just slow or the &()^%$ topic is just confusing by nature (likely a combination of both). So I just use a card, decline all the crap that is being sold on me, drive carefully and life goes on:-)
deltagoldflyer says
“o I just use a card, decline all the crap that is being sold on me, drive carefully and life goes on:-)”
Correct, if, you use ANY VISA card at all, are in the USA, have good insurance. NO NO NO if outside the USA, or if you DO NOT have good car insurance. Then, (NOT an affiliate link) buy the $17.95-$24.95 AMEX insurance package AND AND AND say YES to only the liability extra (unless provided free outside the USA as some are but some are NOT). Simple! Clear?

I am the one who misses me the most! There is so much material for it that I simply could not sustain it without affecting my life in a major way! At least now it is doable, could keep it going.
Unless you all promise you will click the s*&^ out of my affiliate links…maybe I will reconsider, lol.
