The Omega beach in Greece. Found here. Screw the Maldives, eat souvlaki! |
ON MY MIND
Just way too much going on.
Cyprus is in the news. I was in Cyprus with my brother in 1986. My former roomate from college is from Cyprus and works in a local bank there. He is telling me he was told to stay home for a few extra days until the situation clears up. I hope he keeps his job!
Too many spammers wasting my time on this blog, I have to constantly delete spam messages. I support capital punishment for scum who do this for a living.

Called the US Bank automated line and was informed that my wife was approved for the Club Carlson Visa! Persistence pays off.
Still a bit hurt by wife’s denial on the Citi Thankyou card due to “excessive inquiries”. Has anyone been successful writing a letter to Citibank to reconsider the app?
Burned 50k United miles (and $260 in taxes) and finally got four tickets for the flights back to Detroit from Calgary. Not much available. 6 am Sunday departure, oh how we will regret this! I still have some hotel nights to book there. No chain hotels near the Fairmont in Banff Springs and Lake Louise? Any decent and not too expensive hotel recommendations? Is staying in Calgary and using it as a base to do driving trips around the area for 2 or 3 nights not recommended? Oh, I still need to reserve a rental car too. Any tips on booking rental cars in Canada? This trip is in late July/early August.

This is a sick video of two guys in wingsuits flying between skyscrapers in Rio De Janeiro.

Ja, but before you sign up for those wingsuit lessons, here’s a youtube video of a famous wingsuit guy hitting a bridge.

OMG, tragic ending. And this is why you will never see me doing something like this. I may be a little crazy but not THAT crazy!

I stayed here about 5 times in the late 80 early 90s was great in those days. Tons of wildlife. Moose was at my window 1 day. http://www.banffhotels.org/st/tra.php?d=caribou-lodge
Obviously been a whole so check current recommendations. But location can’t be beat for Banff and Lake Louise.
Haven’t stayed here, but have had many friends who have http://www.banffhotels.org/st/tra.php?d=rimrock-resort
I’d stay in Banff. Calgary is a hike.

Excellent, thanks a lot! Yeah, thanks for confirming that staying in Calgary may not be smart. I am thinking I may pony up some dough and pay for these extra nights needed at the Fairmonts. That area sure needs more chain hotels where we can burn hotel points, it is so unfair:-)

Nice beach, but Maldives? I don’t think so! LOL. I remember back after the Russian Rouble crisis in 1998 Cyprus became a “hot-bed” for international finance. It was the only way to get Roubles in and out of Russia. Don’t ask me how I know but Russian were showing up with suit-cases full of Roubles, and taking home suit-cases full of USD. And now Cyrpus is the Iceland for the 2010s. Now you need to pay $100 to host your own website and install a simple plugin to stop spam, like on my site where you have to type in 2+3=? before posting. Stops these automated bots. If I switch that off all hell breaks loose.

I had to throw that Maldives and souvlaki references in there:-) Actually, Cyprus is still a hotbed for Russians laundering money. The EU actions are designed to stop this crap, of having an EU member fully allowing shenaningans like this to go on. I am afraid in the process they may have done a lot more collateral damage. Almost half of the money raised from taxing bank deposits in Cyprus would have to be paid by…Russsians! Sticking it to them for the sake of EU. Talk about irony indeed. #developing
I have already deleted four spam comments in this blog post alone! When one day I move to WordPress I can deal with it better. Actually I am told mine is not too bad but still, what a huge pain. DEATH TO SPAMMERS!!

I read this site for BRG opportunities: http://bestrateguarantee.blogspot.com/
I haven’t looked to see whether “your guy” is better than this guy. Probably both are useful.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I think I used to follow your guy for a long time but I stopped. I thought my guy yesterday was the same guy I used to follow! Very similar URLs. Anyways, I am posting this guy in tomorrow’s blog. I think he was the original. Or maybe I am wrong. I never got the hang of the BRG thing, too time intensive for me.
Thanks for the heads up!
