ON MY MIND
I am so focused on taxes right now that I am afraid I am going to depreciate myself! Modified Accelerated Depreciation would suit me just fine. I can’t believe I am finding time to be posting here! I think I should call my therapist again. I am afraid she will tell me “You NEED to start again your Not So Best Of section” lol.
I burned 10k Starwood points for a night at the Sheraton La Guardia East on April 22 after a reader highly suggested it. My flight to Detroit is in the evening the next day. I underestand the hotel is around some excellent chinese restaurants, dim sum anyone? What remains to be booked is 1 night in London Heathrow and 3 nights in Stavanger, Norway for my trip there next month. I hate spending 30k devalued Hilton points for the Hilton Paddington, I just need a place to crash as I get in to Heathrow around 9 pm. I see prices pretty low, any other recommendations near the airport (with shuttle)?
I called Amex again to give me some Membership Rewards points for renewing my Platinum card. This was the second call, the first one was negative! I gently forced myself to the Reconsideration department and after a ridiculously lenghtly conversation all I got was just 6,000 points. I wanted 15,000 like another reader got, boo Amex! Then again the only two times I used the card after the minimum spend for the signing bonus was to get the $200 AA credit and to buy an ipad:-) Why do I keep the card as I really don’t fly that much? I give my three top clients a card each for another $175 and deduct the whole anount in my business. Call it “building client loyalty” every time they use a lounge!
I think I need to get Mrs. TBB the same four cards I got for myself. But I just have a feeling that the Vanilla Reload gravy train is ending at your most Conveneince Stores nearby…and then there is a lot of spending to be done! Then again, I can prepay daughter’s braces. And my own Ink Bold is coming due at the end of this month (I am keeping my Ink Plus) so it is time for another one…but I had them all I think.
MILES/POINTS
Things you will never hear me say, Vol. 2. From The Deal Mommy. It is remarkable how I agree with everything here.
That’s just great, Southwest is pushing the knife on our backs too! “Southwest Airlines to tighten rules on Wanna Get Away fares“. From the Airline Biz Blog. Well, they did warn us. Expect more “Get your Southwest cards RIGHT NOW!!!” ridiculously alarming posts.
“Delta frequent flyers fume about award availability“. USA Today. Not only fume but we leave too!
TRAVEL
“A Sunny Day in Venice“. Wow. Seen at Gadling here.
“Frequent Fliers, Prepare to Pay More“. New York Times. This is disturbing in many levels. Hope DOT comes in & cuts airline in the knees before they elevate this to a standard practice! Can we get a break around here, all we want was to continue traveling for free, is that too much to ask?:-)
“Alaska Airlines, Flying Above an Industry’s Troubles“. New York Times. A glowing portrait of the “best managed” airline.
This is where Delta is wasting your money…”Delta Unveils a Shower that Supposedly Cures Jet Lag“. Delta Points can’t wait to experience it and write a review:-)
Ok, this is a little bizarre. “Did the hotel Zaza Have Its Own Sex Dungeon?“. Room 322 please, the prison themed room, wink wink, lol.
ODDZ & ENDZ
“6 Things you Should Love About Your Life“. From Marc and Angel. Good stuff about life.
“100 Facts About the Economy That Will Blow Your Mind“. The Motley Fool.
“Mexican Carpoolers Aerial Shots“. I could/should have placed this one under Travel…

I still can’t believe First2Board recommends Frugal Travel Guy for credit card links. Are they getting a kickback, or are they just that naive?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
No kickbacks. I think a thank you move for featuring it in FTG. You know I would never do that, feeding more money to Internet Brands shareholders!

Some great links you have there, was wandering if you’d be able to put a link to my blog post > http://www.mustlook.com/the-worlds-best-rooftop-bars/ in your next post?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
At first I thought this was spam. Glad I visited the site, it is Fantastic! I will feature it tomorrow and added it to my Google Reader gazillion blog list. Goes well with my eclectic taste, thanks!

Did you see Gary’s take in View from the Wing on the NYT piece? He makes some valid points, but I can’t help but think that the ordinary guy who just wants to book a flight and doesn’t follow all the FF/book-it-for-free/trick-the-system blogs will be the one to lose out if the new pricing ideas go into effect.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yes I saw it. I am not sure what to make of it. I think the NYT writer was just bored or something trying to make a story out of almost nothing.

Best of: MMS on credit scores. More posts like these should be filler where bloggers currently put the lazy “My brother-in-law’s uncle’s co-worker wants to know: CSP or Starwood Amex, or both?”

I heard lots of bloggers are petitioning Amex to stop doing these non affiliate short duration specials on their cards…taking bread out their childrens’ mouths;-)

MileValue gave a big ole “meh” to the 75K offer
It’s no Frontier card…
Anonymous says
@TBB why do you think the Amex 75k offer was non-affiliate? It was definitely an affiliate link for TPG.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I was referring to a few 50k offers lately…It sure is getting confusing, especially with the practices of not full disclosing the financial relationship involved!
