First, my thoughts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma and everyone caught in the path of the horrific tornadoes!
MVP POST OF THE DAY
Loyalty Traveler talks about “BaCon Bits about credit card affiliate marketing“. Must read in my opinion. I made a comment there expanding on the topic if anyone is interested!
TRAVEL
There are certain bloggers who love traveling in luxury. Okay then, how about one of you having a pic in a hotel suite with a Gold iPad huh? Can you do that? We are all getting tired of your rubber duckies at the Frankfurt Lufthansa First Class Lounge!
Crazy guy skydives into the Great Barrier Reef and goes straight to…scuba diving! From The Adventure Blog
MILES/POINTS
The Star Mega DO 5 tickets went on sale. I am not paying $1,200 for a coach seat because this site does not generate any money from pimping credit cards yet #justsaying
Get Hilton Gold with 4 stays in 90 days still going strong. Loyalty Lobby has all the details. Or you can spend $20k on the no fee Hilton American Express (this is where the affiliate link would go lol).
Milevalue wrote THE definitive post on getting to Peru on a lie flat seat. Too bad so much of the site is now dominated by credit card pumping but I understand the economics…
If you needed yet another reason to have more manufacturing spend methods…Google gets into the game, Frequent Miler has the scoop. Sigh.
Northwest vs Ginsburg. The rabbi wants $5 million compensation and the Supreme Court will hear his case! This one will be very interesting to watch!
ON MY MIND
The old man Frugal Travel Guy (the original one) can still crank out some good posts like the old days in “Diversify Your Manufactured Spending”. There is a lot in there to decipher. And I always liked the advice “to stay a pig and do not become a hog…as hogs get slaughtered”. This is definitely NOT Million Mile Secret material folks:-)
RomsDeals (an MMS interview graduate) is going all in on affiliate credit card links with Credit Karma. Travel Summary also started using Credit Karma recently. But many of the offers are definitely not the best current ones. This stuff is way too complicated for me and I do not have time to research. If there is a way to get them and stick them at a separate tab AND still allow me full editorial freedom ( I am not Jamie Dimon’s bitch!) so, you know, friends and family can click them…please someone let me know, thank you:-) Until then I like raising hell here, thank you for your support:-)
Delta Points says BURN BABY BURN (in all caps and in RED!) and serves a bunch of Chase and AMEX links. Some things never really change.
The Points Guy was on a roll with a mega credit card carpet bombing. I counted 37 of them! This is what is meant by Maximize Monday for sure! Then it was followed up by “My Virgin America Gold Elevate Status Ends – So What?”. Ok, you think you will definitely see the Virgin America Visa pushed here of course. But noooooooo, it was not enough! At the end here come another SIX credit cards. Incredible!! May I suggest a name change to “The Credit Card Guy”, it seems more appropriate!
Noob Traveler pushed more Chase credit cards and an excuse was found yet again (this time to fly Air Tran to Mexico).

Great post. Finally feels like George of the old(even if you are still newish :))
The contextual rationalization of CC pimping was getting old and tiring and isn’t your niche! Still waiting to see your Top 10 list.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
The Top and Bottom 10 keeps changing. After I move to WordPress I may have that up in the sides perhaps and maybe move up and down or in and out:-)
And thank you.

“An MMS interview graduate” – that was hilarious! ROFL!!
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I type what’s in my head. Well, not everything what’s in my head. You really do NOT want to know what’s in my head lol.

You should consider changing your tagline from “An eclectic journey of the Travel Miles/Points blogosphere” to “I am not Jamie Dimon’s bitch!”
TravelBlogger Buzz says
LOL! Wait…There is a small chance he may be leaving! So…adding that may be obsolete pretty quickly. It does have a good ring to it, doesn’t it?
Anonymous says
Plus you’ve intimated on several times that you are considering becoming Jamie Dimon’s bitch, or at least his lackey.

“The old man Frugal Travel Guy (the original one) can still crank out some good posts like the old days”
SERIOUSLY? What kind of a curve are you grading him on? There was little at all of substance in that post. There was nothing that anyone is missing if they don’t read the post.
He writes ONE POST A WEEK HIMSELF, and that drivel is all he can come up with? For shame.
bluecat says
I am *still* trying to figure out the pig/hog thing. Going on a few years now… Can anyone explain that to a city slicker…?
The Deal Mommy says
A little fat (IE manufactured spending) makes you pleasantly plump. Going whole hog just kills the deal.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
It was considerably better than recent posts. “curve” lol

Yesterday VFTW reminded that free Marriott silver still works.
http://boardingarea.com/blogs/viewfromthewing/2013/05/20/bits-n-pieces-for-may-20-2013/
This was a deal first noted back in October.
And coincidence of coincidences, today Miles Momma writes about free Marriott silver status!
As though she discovered the offer herself!
http://milesmomma.com/free-marriott-silver-status-2
Has she ever written anything original? Does she ever credit her sources?

Or as we call it in these areas, pulling a TPG

And while I’ve never actually read her blog (has anyone?), based on the fact that the people who usually censor are the same ones who openly plagiarize/give inferior CC offers….. is it safe to assume that it’s pointless to pose this question on her blog since she’ll delete it anyways?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
love you guys:-)
bluecat says
No one noticed that MMS was getting all gansta in responding to rude comments? Love that he grew a pair and was calling people out!
Anonymous says
Yeah, but he was also ignoring all the questions to him in the interview thread.
Pretty cowardly. Want to be if the comments more were praising, or if someone asked for Chase Sapphire Preferred advice….. he would’ve made exception to his arbitrary and conveniently timed “I don’t comment on interview threads” policy?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
sorry I did not follow the comments…
To me, going personal and calling name is uncalled for. I think people who do it it reflects badly on them. I find it amusing. I used to officiate high school soccer games…name calling does not bother me, I find it amusing. I always enjoyed yellow card or red carding little Johnny and giving his parents an evil smile:-)
I also feel very strongly about the freedom to state whatever you feel like. This is not North Korea folks!

In a post titled “Marriott Extends Breakfast benefits”, there were links for the Citi Hilton Reserve, the SPG Amex (regular and business) and the Chase Hyatt Visa
In a post titled “Top 13 car rental bonuses for the Summer”, there were links for Barclays Arrival, C1 Venture, Amex PRG, Amex Platinum and the usual trio of Chase card
Who wants to guess which blogger I am referring to here?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I JUST marked that to comment on. Then I unmarked it…It is just tiring day after day. It’s all camouflage for credit card pimping…this whole “miles/points” blogging scene is…booooooo

Too many to choose from!

Just curious, this weekend are you going Saint Louis, Baby Back, Country or beef ribs? Sauce or rub?
Charles Ramsey rib eating American Hero says
All kidding aside, on a more serious note. Does anyone know when Mcdonalds is bring back the McRib sandwich? I thank you for your response in advance. C.R.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Sometimes I like going to Buffalo Wings stores and eating them chicken wings. I thought some McD stores do have the McRib, no?

VFTW posted that paean to PointsHound, noted that he might get points if you used them [but that his referral link was better than the standard offer] and Wandering Aramean went all ape sh!t over him in the comments.
Turns out he was in the process of getting his full referral credit given to the readers using his link, taking nothing for himself. So referreds get 60 days of ‘level 2’ mileage-earning and 500 bonus points with first stay instead of the standard 250.
[Side note: George, you should highlight GOOD BEHAVIOR like that as well as bad behavior, a carrot and stick sort of thing. I notice that today VFTW is also giving away National Car Rental prize packs — 2 instead of 1 because he doesn’t take the one they offer to him to keep either.]
So after going off on Gary, what does his holiness Seth do…?
He posts about PointsHound himself, offering up his own referral link! Even though he knows that Gary’s is better for the reader!
Even Mommy Points directed her readers to Gary’s link since it was better than her own.
Wandering Aramean. Pot. Kettle.

George asked me not to name-call but doesn’t this person and many many more in this whole charade sound a bunch of (word that ends in …bags)
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Hey, give WA a break in my humble opinion, he has resisted the cc pimping thing all these years! Bloggers who pimp credit cards should DO A LOT MORE TO GIVE BACK TO READERS! I am not talking just giving away free swag. I am talking treating them to dinner and hosting get togethers AND picking up the whole tab. If I had credit cards and I meet a reader who told me (please don’t lie lol) he used my links I would not just treat him for coffee…heck, I will buy him the whole dinner and booze! But maybe this is a no no based on the secret contracts the bloggers sign just before they become Jamie Dimon’s bitches:-)
Anonymous says
haha you got us there fair and square. 🙂
Anonymous says
Maybe I just wasn’t paying attention, but did MMS always have affiliate links at the end of his post?
Because I don’t remember MMS ever having something like the Hilton Reserve at the end of today’s Bank Direct post
Guess his mother-in-law has very lax rules when it comes to CC pimping.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
have not noticed that yet…trying to catch up. If correct, it would be hugely disappointing. Compare that to the TPG or FTG or DP disclosure policies, come on!
Give them all a break. They need to keep pumping to stay in Jamie’s fold.
This “hobby” has reached unimaginable lows…At this very minute, several bloggers added several Chase Ink Bold/Plus affiliate links in their posts…we all know it now.
Which brings to mind….If this whole charade stopped suddenly…what the hell is TBB going to write about?????? Oh no!!!
Anonymous says
It’s the canned advertisements you see at the end of TPG and FTG posts
And not only is there no disclosure (i thought MMS was Mr. Disclosure?), but he’s actually greatly misleading his readers, because at the top of his post, it says:
[Disclosure: Emily and I do NOT get a commission for any of the links in this post as of the post publication date.]
MMS disclosure policy was his last redeeming quality. He’s a pretty terrible writer, he spoonfeeds for affiliate clicks with the worst of them, and nobody puts in more filler posts than him
TravelBlogger Buzz says
If a link LEADS to a blog post that has affiliate links maybe it is okay to say this?
>>>>>>[Disclosure: Emily and I do NOT get a commission for any of the links in this post as of the post publication date.]
I caught MMS on one & he thought it was not a direct link (which it was). Keeping track of these affiliate links, and all the changes/edits, is REALLY HARD AND TIME CONSUMING I am sure. Sometimes bloggers slip.
May be slipping more than usual.
Still love to see that disclosure from the others…which won’t happen!
His English and writing style are superb imho.
They all spoonfeed…This is what you do to stay in the “game” I guess.
Nobody puts in more filler posts??? Maybe a bit harsh. Breaking trip reports to so many installments is a little bit too much I agree:-)
Anonymous says
This isn’t a link that leads to a blog post
This is a random Citi Hilton Reserve advertisement at the end of a post that has nothing to do with it. The same advertisements you see at the end of every TPG and FTG post
And not only is there no disclosure for it, but the top of the post implies that he is DOESN’T receive a commission from it (or at least that’s what any newbie would think)
And no, his writing style is not good.
Have you ever been able to stay awake through an entire trip report post?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I thought these are banner type ads that are automatically placed there and bloggers don’t even control which ones appear. They are NOT part of the particular blog post.
The regular blog posts are VERY well written. The trip reports writing style is so dry I need to flog myself:-) I was NOT talking about the trip reports writing, so much room for improvement there!
Anonymous says
Did MMS ever have these banner type ads?
I don’t recall ever seeing them
And you and I know that these ads are “NOT part of the particular post”
But does someone new to the game (the people that MMS caters to with his spoonfeeding)? If you went to a travel blog for the first time ever and saw a headline at the top that said “Disclosure: Emily and I do NOT get a commission for any of the links in this post as of the post publication date”….. and then saw an ad for the Citi Hilton Reserve at the bottom – would you think they’re making money off that?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yes I agree MMS has “turned”…See my comments (in the comment section) in the May 21 blog post!
