We let Drew tell us about the cheapest way to burn miles to Europe, check out an excellent trip report on the Amtrak Coast Starlight Train, check out two new brands by Hilton and Best Western (Canopy and Vib), get totally mesmerized by Santorini Island, Australia, and a Tunisian village full of art, get totally inspired by a very strong article on someone almost stepping off the Golden Gate Bridge, enjoy the differences between amateurs and professionals and marvel at the cost of living back in 1938.

MILES/POINTS
Cheapest Miles to Get to Europe – Travel is Free Fantastic list, Drew is on fire. I suggest when he is on stage in Chicago next to MMS, FTG and TPG to hold up a big cardboard sign “TBB Rocks!” and then flip it to show “Get your 70k Chase Ink Plus card HERE!”. That would be a riot. We can all dream…
Amtrak Coast Starlight Trip Summary and my Train Traveling Thoughts – Travel With Grant An awesome use of Amtrak Guest Rewards points. Everything you needed to know is here, very nice report. If you want to read another one how we traveled from Ann Arbor to Chicago to Los Angeles (and then the Starlight train up to Seattle) you can read my own trip report.
Not going to bother with just 7.5k AA miles for test driving a Cadillac, sounds like a pain to put it together.
New brand by Hilton: Canopy. What name is that? Here is the website and the promotional video on YouTube Loyalty Traveler wrote about them here, looks like we will have 11 opening.
Actually, what looks more exciting, is Best Western’s announcement of a new boutique hotel concept, Vib. Article says Vib is taking a “Kimpton-esque” approach. Well, I guess as there is no credit card to push with it this is the reason you did not hear much about this from all them hotel/travel bloggers? So, click our links if you appreciate cutting edge content 🙂

I find the fact that Harvard tuition was 1/4 of the average salary to be fascinating. That’s no where close these days.

4th! Thanks for linking to my Amtrak post. Did you have any interest in the Texas Eagle ride? Los Angeles to San Antonia to Chicago. 62 hours…
TravelBloggerBuzz says
If I remember well either the times for the Texas Eagle Ride would not work for us or that train was not better than the Southwest Chief we took. Don’t remember for sure

Buzz-
Do you think this weekend’s Do (did I spell that right?) in Chicago will have any break-out sessions on how to buy tulips with an Ink card?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I am following the #ChicagoSeminars hashtag on Twitter. Want to do a Top 10 moments like I did with BACon14 but not sure I can squeeze it in. Some of my “favorite” bloggers are there.Attending legitimizes them and their awful sell sell sell practices. That makes me TBB sad 🙂

Great post, thank you. I think milk adjusted for inflation got a whole lot cheaper!

Thank the wind, moon, & stars that there are no links to those personal finance & investing articles you’ve recently been fond of (Big Picture link isn’t really about investing.) Don’t believe that any of them discussed Black Swans, the (increasingly) boom and bust nature of financial markets, or how the movement of various asset classes are more correlated than ever. This week has been a good reminder that the macro forces at play often lay waste to most personal investing strategies that don’t consider them. Thankfully its not been that long since the lesson was last learned, and the forces of greed and complacency have only recently awoke, so likely not too many people are being hurt badly (again).
Loved yesterday’s post, and today’s links! Bored Panda is amazing…

I go through a list for the oddz & endz links and I share what I think may be entertaining, educational or inspiring….you know, it is about the mission, the mission 🙂
I am interested in black swans stuff and of course the emotions (behavioral finance) that always screws up people. I ‘ll keep an eye on some of that.
Just read the latest MMS friday interview and I can’t help it but comment on it late tonight.
Yeah, Bored Panda has some awesome stuff indeed!
Thanks for the kind words.

Canopy refers to the tarp and pole they’ll give you to erect in a muddy field. It will only cost 70,000 Hilton HHonors points each night, or click my link for two weekend nights on the Reserve card.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I ‘ll be shocked if it is less than 70k per night! Do hotels really need all these brands?
Jonathan says
When I went to Chicago Seminars Do, a staff at Holiday Inn Chicago-Elk Grove told me that ingy took the only suite. I am curious who paid the suite.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Hehe, would not be shocked if this is true

When I click on your “found here” links, why do you point to the image itself and not the page that it was featured on? The latter would make more sense, IMO.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Hmm, good point. I don’t know. I ‘ll try to remember doing that. They almost all come from TheChive

Buzz, since you’ve been looking for a way forward and thinking about the future of TBB I’ve got a suggestion for you. It might not be popular but it would help me. I WANT to avoid the blogs on your naughty list, but sometimes some of them do have good content. I keep checking, keep reading, keep giving them clicks so I don’t miss anything.
You have a policy not to link to them. And I’ve noticed you rarely call them out when they write anything useful. I think that’s a mistake. You’re reading them all anyway. You could tell me when I should read a single post that won’t burn my eyes, so I don’t have to read them every day.
In a funny way, your attempt not to send anyone to their blogs is sending me to their blogs, every day. Sorry!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Well, that just sucks!
As long as you don’t give them the only clicks that really matter (for revenue I mean) is just fine 🙂
Sometimes have good content? More like very few times and nothing not covered better by the blogs in the two good lists!
i used to do that when I first started. Then I got clobbered to death with so many cc pimping posts. I would rather get Ebola to link to them here. Unless they start linking to me. Lol. Right!
Some developments are in progress in my blog. I don’t want to say much more than that because my haters will be all over it to “help me out”. Stay tuned.
Your comment hurt me so I am going to fill up one more cup of coffee (for FREE with my Starbucks Gold card, yeahh…cheating on Panera this morning!). I so hope you are the exception that the rule!
RAMSEY's WTF thought of the day says
All the write ups on Target Red by FM this week, what am I missing here? I just switched over to Serve and every time I load it now with a credit card I am charged a cash adv fee. Since both Red and Serve are AMEX products, wouldn’t be safe to assume Red will have the same fate?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I am sticking with my BBs. I practice ‘If it ain’t broke keep doing it until it breaks”!
FM is trying to catch on and ride the latest buzz….zzzzzz.
RAMSEY's WTF thought of the day says
The offer for 7500 AA miles for Caddy test drive, it is just not worth it. I’m retired, bored and have way too much free times (as shown daily on TBB) on my hand but there is no way I would do the AA Caddy test drive for only 7500 miles. Unless you want to be a dick to the poor salesman who is investing his time and effort to try and sell you a car, it would be too much work and torture being pleasant, disingenuous and insincerely interested. That being said, I do love working the system, using the internet, have dealers compete with each other, when I do go car shopping.
ramsey says
Sometimes when I read what I just posted here, I see the many grammatical errors that I made. I can’t help but think, when Harvson reads this, he is going to wonder how I ever graduated Nassau C.C.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I think what most are missing is you will likely become a bitch being slapped around by salesmen calling you about buying cars 🙂
I still get mail from Bosley about getting my hair back…Thank God I gave them wrong phone number lol.
ramsey says
was that for eyebrow hair that fell out?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
It could easily as I still have all my real hair!

Cash Advance fees started hitting around 10/8. So far Ink & Barclay A+ still posting as purchase.
jed says
When I load my ‘Amex for Target’ card at Target with a credit card, the charge posts to my credit card as an ordinary purchase from Target. I would assume Target Red would be the same. Serve is different because the Charge is originating directly from American Express.
Jeff says
drew’s post has several omissions and errors. a bit overhyped.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Please let him know about them so the post can be updated. I would rather have that before “Chase Ink Plus ending in ____ days, hurry!”
