We bring you more info on the Nomad Life downsides, a deep article on Austerity and Populism, an inspiring speech about how tolerance rocks, all for you!
TBB Blog Mission: To Entertain. Educate. Inspire. In That Order!
Just a few links of material that made enough of an impression on me to share them with you. Keeping it light in the weekends!
I keep seeing articles about “hey look at me, I travel the world full time and you can be just like me” or “you can retire early and travel” blah blah blah, they are very tiring. And I think a lot of it is pure bullshit. Hey, look at me smiling in the Maldives while I work 16 hours a day trying to build this blog and going crazy with all the social media crap, commenting on a million other blogs, oh wait, lets pose, smile, click…You don’t have time to feel a connection to a place because you are on the go. No sense of identity. No home. And don’t get me started about real relationships to other humans. Good to see an article about nomad life downsides. I have absolutely no inspirations to do that! Does it sound nice sometimes? Sure. But I do LOVE my home and the community I live in! Because it is HOME! Okay, here is this article, the whole piece is worth a read, imho:
Ditching the office to work in paradise as a “digital nomad” has a hidden dark side
I like reading stuff that does not conform to my own thinking, I like reading the other side. Because I can understand better where they are coming from. Anyways, this guy wrote an excellent piece on how austerity has assisted to the rise of populism. I agree with many of his points but his ending is way too dark! I may be a pessimist about the travel hacking hobby but I am a big optimist about humanity and where we are going in the future. So, there!
Austerity and the rise of populism at Coppola Comment
You know I am a big proponent of tolerance and inclusion and of course diversity. I think we can all get along and thrive and this is what makes America a great country! Anyways, this very short video by the King of Norway captures this so beautifully. Since “inspire” is in the TBB blog mission…here you go, just 1.13 mins. After watching it, I screamed: Je Suis Norwegian 🙂
The King of Norway speech excerpt
And I leave you with this stunning photo:
Okay, one more. It would not be a TBB post without a funny one!

Good morning Costa Rica.
Hey Mike, any chance you’ve stayed at the Hyatt in Danang? If so, thoughts? Have one more DSU to bern — er, burn — and looking for a SE Asia spot for a week…

Good morning, sorry for you third!
Slept in today, woke up at 7.13 am, that is SO late for me! I think the awesome red wine I had at the Toledo Greek festival had something to do with it.
Amazing that Rick I. is back posting way more here than what he was phoning in for the $$ on Friday and Saturday nights…Hey, it must be entertainment, a primary mission of TBBiness lol.

I hear good things about Danang, it’s on my list, waiting for a three digit offer to sell out so I can travel there woohoo!

I stayed in Hoi An for two nights, took a car with driver (English speaking) for touristic drive up to Hue, where I spent the night. Did a tour with motorcyle guide in morning then returned with driver in the afternoon to Hoi An. Rained like crazy on the way back, check what season you will be in before you go! Danang seemed nice, and a friend of mine recommends it, but I just flew into there because there are cheap flight with HK Express from HK.

Vietnam is really fascinating! So the whole digital nomad thing. I did it before it was digital. Gap year between college and graduate school. Carried a backpack around the world before there was luggage with wheels or frequent flier miles. Did it with two friends before we were married. Still in touch with both. Have ten adult children between us. They have normal lives. I am the travel addict.

@GringoLoco – Never been to the Hyatt Danang (having only stayed at the Intercon), but the area is pretty amazing. Hoi An is a must see if you’re into food and old towns, Hue has some great palaces and temples, and Marble Mountain is utterly otherworldly.
@George – the digital nomad burnout is real! My wife and I did 26 countries in a year way back when AA’s one world explorer ticket was still a thing, RIP :(. Fortunately, I was prepared for loneliness having spent 3 years prior working from home where my two daily in person interactions were a barista and my wife – haha.
After a year solid on the road we were ready to make a home base. That being said, after we “settled” all I wanted to do was travel so we were out of the country for 2 months the year after.
Now that we have a kid I’ve only traveled domestic this year – so sad.
Love the site, btw! Been following you on and off for a few years now.

Hi, wondered what happened to you, been a while, nice to see you still around. And congrats on the cute kid, looks adorable!
Oh yeah, the AA one world explorer ticket, didn’t last long #sosad.
Just fyi, son is in his 2nd year at the University of Michigan in Engineering. Looks like he is going for Computer Science and was always interested in games…He will be looking for internships for next summer and is looking at Silicon Valley. If any leads/interest/contacts/advice, please email me, thanks.
And thanks for the kind words.
Best,
George
