The untold story of Q72: What happens when ‘psycho’ automation leaves pilots powerless?
What a great story, especially for the readers who are aviation geeks. I did not know much about this incident and it is very surprising to see the pilot come out and spill the beans so to speak after all these years. I don’t know, maybe he is bored in retirement. This article also is very relevant to some themes that I like to post here, the automation and advanced technological changes gripping us and…making us slaves of it. If you are too lazy to read it all, at least watch the first 5 minute very educational video.
Fresh Air’s 10 Favorite Terry Gross Interviews
I am a Terry Gross fan, I think she is the best interviewer on radio. Ever. I have really enjoyed listening to her in my car. Cheesy blogger question: Which one is your favorite? Mine is Borat! 🙂
Please Make Yourselves at Home in My Airbnb and Have Sex
If you want to laugh, read this. Guaranteed! If not, what is wrong with you? Go read a boring Titan blog that keeps pumping you, WTF! Ok, you are not convinced? Just a few excerpts from the letter an Airbnb host leaves to new guests:
Bathroom:…you should have sex in the shower or against the basin if the mood strikes you—spontaneous sex in unusual places can really invigorate a relationship. I want my bathroom to be a place where you and your partner make lasting sexual memories, as well as a place where I brush my teeth.
Guests:…it’s a good idea to discuss boundaries before you have sex with multiple people in my home, and to make sure that you’re doing it in the context of a healthy relationship. I’m not at all judgmental about group sex; I just hear stories about relationships suffering because people didn’t talk these kinds of things through. Also, I’m not sure my IKEA bed frame can support more than two people having sex.
Sex Dungeon: PLEASE DO NOT HAVE SEX IN HERE. This is where I have sex. And, while I want my Airbnb guests to enjoy my home and have great sex in it, I also want to maintain a private space, just for me. And whomever I’m having sex with.
When Your Financial Plan Gets Thrown Out the Window
Some really good advice here from a colleague. When life throws out curve balls at you. I am sure you have noticed. If not, you are probably too young, just wait. The main points I single out for you:
- Personal finance requires flexibility
- Financial planning is a process, not an event
- A high savings rate makes everything else easier
- Normal personal finance advice works
- Priorities matter more than goals
- You can never fully prepare for everything but that’s okay
Get Started Making Music
In these lessons, you’ll learn the basics of music making. No prior experience or equipment is required; you’ll do everything right here in your browser.
Fascinating site. If you are interested in making music that is. Kind of cool mixing all the different combinations! Have fun with it.
And I leave you with this…

WARNING: Do not read below this if your creed is FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE travel (and especially if you earn soooooooooooooo many FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE miles from DINING). You have been warned!
FWIW, I am on the side of purchasing LifeMiles — maybe the only place for outsized redemptions in these #sad days. An example:
Current promo for redeeming miles to Asia (Japan, Korea, China) from the Western US is 135k in biz. Buy the miles for ~$2k. Fly real airlines like ANA or Asiana.
It gets better — fly in First class but add in HKG, Guam, Phillipines, Palau for 165k or about $2400. TPAC F on ANA or Asiana for a lot less than a biz class paid ticket.
Yes, the website sucks. Yes, the phone service sucks. Even if you grock español. Every rose has it thorns — watch out for the pricks!

I actually find George adamantly telling people to buy miles pretty dumb. It’s one thing not to buy em through titan links, but otherwise if you fly business anyway then flying em at over half off through buying points is a no brainer.
George maybe you should put a disclaimer: hey don’t buy points if you’re cheap or can’t afforeld it lol

*George adamantly telling people NOT to buy miles
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I stand by my advice NOT to buy miles. Again, we are all different so in VERY limited cases it may work.
– Why buy when the whole point is to travel for free? If you are going to buy, maybe you are not maximizing it. Like PedroNY 🙂 Or me!
-I am against banks selling currency to their customers, let them earn it 🙂 I mean, seriously, you trust these companies to print their own money to get your cash and then keep you happy? You trust the LifeMiles progam? These guys are drawing up their next devaluation right NOW most likely! So, you buy them and then you can’t find award seats…and you keep trying. And by the time you find them, you likely pay more. Who is the sucker? It happens…a lot I am sure!
-If you regularly BUY Business class miles you are probably not reading my blog 🙂
-The more miles are sold this way, asshole bloggers get rich by fully disclosing how much $ they make (lol) AND, most importanly, from the hobbyists’ point of view…devaluations get accelerated! So, no way Jose I say, DO NOT BUY MILES AND POINTS!
If you were going to use them RIGHT AWAY (and somehow you are okay with the risk of not finding that elusive award seat) and you were going to pay more in miles and the math make a LOT of sense…okay I guess. But not for me, I ike sure things 🙂
MileageUpdate says
The only way buying miles makes sense is if you pretend that a flight is worth 5-6k to start with. More than a yearly fund of your IRA or Roth if you income is low enough? If you are paying 2k to fly biz you are doing it wrong.
