I signed up for the Ritz Carlton card a few weeks ago and called Chase this morning to make sure they had the offer right. They told me that Ritz Carlton was planning on issuing two free nights certificates but that they would try to honor the 140,000 points if they could. I told them to let me know because I would cancel the card immediately if not. Waiting to hear back. That’s pretty skeevy since the landing page and offer clearly state that you earn 140,000 points or enough for two free nights at any Ritz Carlton property.

Can I haz rewards cards?

Chase will end up honoring the 140,000 point offer, dealing with a mass of CFPB complaints is extremely time consuming and expensive. They don’t really have an out either, as the offer was clearly not targeted on the offer page.
Thanks for the link, George. Chuck has been producing a lot of good stuff recently.

Loved the Laos article. I’ve done a lot of it three years ago when I arrived to Chiang Mai and was so enchanted by the region that I pushed everything else out six weeks and spent two weeks in northern Thailand and a month traveling through Laos. That cost me the biz class seat on the Singapore A380, the New Year fireworks in Sydney and the Carnival in Rio and it was the best decision of my round-the-world trip (well, I’m still bitter about Singapore A380).
Did the Gibbon Experience (amazing), almost died on the bus ride to Luang Namtha (we were going too fast and at one of the turns, both wheels on the right side of the bus lifted significantly off the ground with at least a 50m drop off on the left side). The Lao-Lao baggies (rice whiskey), the boat ride from Nong Khiaw to Luang Prabang, the food, the waterfalls, the Mekong river sunsets, tubing in Vang Vieng, losing two guys from our group in the jungles overnight and running an impromptu search and resque operation, the monkey village, the thousand islands… I can’t wait to go back there.
