For the first time in years I paid for a hotel stay. Long story short, I needed to stay in the Courtyard in Indianapolis downtown. WORST.WIFI.EVER! There will be a post daily but there is no way I can get on the miles & points action all right? I will catch up. I repeat: Indianapolis Downtown Courtyard wifi blows!
Sweet Spot Award Redemptions by Just Another Points Traveler. I had to bite my lip for adding something here involving Titan Seminars lol.
Hawaiian Airlines will have a lie-flat seat in its Airbus 330s. Queue up pump job for its card. Oh wait, it doesn’t pay…no wonder you don’t hear much of it, hey lol.

Boom… 2nd first time!

Buzz-
There’s a Citizen M at CDG too. I haven’t stayed there but I walked through and it looks pretty good for a short stay. I wouldn’t stay at CDG (or any airport) on New Years Eve though.
Shopping tips for buying pot in Colorado-about time there was some solid reporting on this. Not that it interests me, man.
Could be second.
Dia says
Copper Canyon is gorgeous, but unfortunately, the Sinaloa in the name also refers to the Sinaloa drug cartel. Muy peligroso. I was fortunate to go as a kid.
The island of the dolls is in Xolomilcho, an easy daytrip from Mexico City. I was going to go this weekend, but it’s really more of a drinking destination (you go out on boats and party all day) and this trip was with Deal Girl. Seth (Wandering Aramean) has been recently and had a post about Xolomilcho, if not the munecas.
An aside: if you’re an SPG fan, Las Alocbas in Mexico City is a STEAL at a Category 5. Redifined what five star service means for me. I’d go to Mexico City again just for the hotel. (I love the city, but would go even if I didn’t just for the hotel).
ABC says
I have never been to Mexico City. What is there to love about it?
With only one of two vacations per year, why would one go to Mexico city rather than some other large city?
Dia says
Oh, so much!
To be honest, Mexico City is not for a long vacation- but it’s perfect for a 4-5 day weekend, especially with Southwest now going from Houston and Dallas. I have some pics up on intstagram/thedealmommyblog to get an idea. Check out my blog over the next few weeks for some posts with details, but to sum up the stuff folks don’t readily know:
1. The largest Art Deco architecture collection intact almost anywhere. The Tiffany ceiling in the Gran Hotel Nacional is an event in itself.
2. FOOD! Seriously some of the best food of my life, and I’ve lived in both China and Thailand. From street to gourmet, you just can’t go wrong.
3. The national anthropology museum is world class.
4. New hipster neighborhoods in Coyocan and Roma rival Brooklyn at 1/4 the price.
5. If you go this time of year you also get the Dia de Los Muertos vibe, which is unique to Mexico.
6. The peso has dropped almost 50% in two years.
And that’s without mentioning all the standard reasons: Spanish Colonial, Aztec, Pyramids, etc.
(Disclosure for George: Southwest Airlines comped my tickets as I’m also writing about them for TravelingMom.com, but I’ve been to Mexico City before and love it anyway)

Am I to understand you’re not hearing enough about the HAWAIIAN AIRLINES®
WORLD ELITE MASTERCARD®?
Mike says
Thanks Buzz and everyone for the great comments.
1. I can’t believe someone is accusing you of being a credit card pumper !
2. I actually have a Hawaiian Air credit card going back several years. It used to be BA but now it is Barclays. Still contemplating what to do with the 245K miles I accrued. Where will the lie flats travel, to Tahiti, NZ, and Australia ? So the new card would get me 35K more miles, and with Bank of Hawaii. The problem is spending them.
3. Dia, thanks for the info, I’d like to take a trip to DF when Volaris has one of their $69RT promotions. But I don’t understand the “peak season” aspect of this SPG chart: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/account/starpoints/categories/index.html?spgCategoryCode=5&language=en_US The hotel does indeed sound awesome ! FYI for anyone who is interested, the MXN peso is hovering between 16 – 17 : 1 USD, making for some great bargains down south.
4. The sweet spot post, that is great info, and a bit complex for dilettantes such as myself to remember. That’s why we need a whole new class of travel agent experts ! Help us to do it right and cheap !
5. Pics are lovely. The ones of Serbia just remind me of how much there is to see in the world. Just need more time and either money or points savvy.
6. Korean Air — I’ve seen this before, that they have great deals to Hawaii. Would have to look up how to get points with them, either UR or transfer from Hawaiian?
ABC says
2. Convert them to Hilton points.
6. You can’t transfer from Hawaii.
Dia says
3. Can’t help ya, but thinking it’s somewhat business related/Mexican holiday related as most of the travelers down there are business travelers.
Mike says
I could go a step further and just have one of these travel experts pick out places to go and stay when conditions are right and plan around it.
Sort of like a “curated list” of destinations etc.
It would offer so much more value than a regular travel agent.
I wonder if there are such businesses already operating ?
Example: The recent sale on biz class fares to Europe. It happened so fast I didn’t have time to think about or plan where or when I would like to go. So if someone had said “you could do these three trips” with included stopovers, open jaws, whatever, you could see quite a lot of well, something, Europe, I guess. That’s a lot of time off work though, which is the most expensive part of the whole thing for me.
Gosh I am chatty today ! 😀
