Every Sunday I pick the best reads that blew my mind in the previous week. It can be…anything! I like to be eclectic and despise salesy/clickbait/sameold content you read…everywhere else!
As always, click on the headline to be taken to the original source. Sometimes I insert my incendiary comments on article excerpts between [brackets].
I am going to be low on my commentary today as I am traveling…
Death by a Thousand Clicks: Where Electronic Health Records Went Wrong
This is a must read article imho. If you care about the state of health care in the US. You will understand a lot…especially when you get pissed waiting for your doctor to come to the room to examine you….and is always late…and always in a hurry typing away at some computer….and then you wonder why you wasted your time again, yawn!
9 questions about the border crisis you were too embarrassed to ask
This is great educational information, no BS.
‘The Unthinkable Has Happened’
First, I must warn you. This was the most difficult thing I have read in a very long time! The author’s account of losing his daughter to a tragic unthinkable accident. Please sit down and prepare to cry. If you are not in the mood…skip it. You have been warned.
Why is living shorter, dying sooner a new trend?
This is by Detroit based writer Mitch Albom. Just the facts/sad stats. Trump will fix this too lol.
The latest statistics show life expectancy in this country will drop for the third straight year. The last time that happened was reportedly 100 years ago, when we were in the middle of World War I and the worst flu pandemic in recorded history. It’s not that our scientists have hit a wall. It’s not that new medicines aren’t working. In fact, for the rest of what we call the “developed world,” the numbers are going up.But from sea to shining sea here in the U.S., they are dropping, largely due to what some have dubbed “the deaths of despair,” drug-related fatalities, liver cirrhosis (caused mostly by alcoholism), and suicide.
Another fantastic infographic by the Visual Capitalist.
Here is a bonus link, the amazing video tribute for retiring Dwayne Wade. Sadly, it was done by Budweiser!
And I leave you with this…

Oscar Leroy's Jackass Miles and Points says
I think you put in all the maps and charts and pictures just to fill space on the blog…..at least it’s not pictures of Emily…….reminds me of when I was in school and had to write a book report on a book I did not bother to read. I would just rewrite the book jacket copy and add a bunch of fluff sentences to fill the page. Jackass.

It’s something hurting in our souls that is driving the suicides, drug abuse, and alcohol abuse. Medication can’t fix it. Government can’t solve it (and shouldn’t try). Nor is there any one thing that is to blame. It is much, much deeper than that and is spreading like cancer for several decades.
About every year someone I know (sometimes a couple of people) dies from suicide – I never would have imagined. Even more have confessed to attempts. My only child is suffering from mental illness and I worry every day.
It’s a spiritual sickness. I think time will show it spreading in the rest of the Western world, too.
