We learn how to travel to Cuba using miles, watch the sickest ski video, marvel at some inspirational portraits of the human race, read Akiro Kurosawa’s Top 100 movies, and some selected TBB tweets for your amusement (remember my own comes FIRST!)

This is going to be a pretty short post. There is not much out there, just the regular shilling that is totally out of control!
Getting to Cuba with miles – Flying Blue is your easiest bet for now – Milecards It appears Air France Flying Blue miles are the best option.
So, the US Airways credit card will no longer have foreign transaction fees. So I tweeted this: “WARNING:To all ghost writers/paid staff/interns:If u do a blog post w/ the US Air card waiving foreign exchange fees w/out link,u are fired!
I was going to post here a link to a really good blog post about British Airways Avios. But I don’t because I was provided a link to it by the writer. It is TBB’s policy not to link here posts that were communicated to me directly (via email or on Twitter). I always said that but never really implemented it. I am now. You can figure it out who it is as the writer likes kosher food 🙂
This is the sickest ski video we’ve ever seen – Matador Network Wow, sick sick sick!
30+ Powerful Portraits Of The Human Race – Bored Panda Wow, no words to describe…
A Dozen Things I’ve Learned From Comedians About the Business of Life – 25iq This is a fantastic read, lots of wisdom.
Akira Kurosawa’s List of His 100 Favorite Movies – Open Culture Very interesting to see what movies made the list of this legendary movie director
BUZZING IT UP:
I am adding again this section with interesting developments in the blogosphere & personal stuff. Please note that this section will generally NOT be for new readers in the hobby! So far the main “negative” rant will appear in the Blog Buzz once a week…if we can get to it as the plastic pumping is totally out of control!
I am going to earn back half of the 120k AA miles burned yesterday on a trip to Greece for 4 in the summer! How? Mrs. TBB was targeted by Citibank for a 60k AA miles (in a 50k plus another 10k batch) for a Citi/AAdvantage Gold World Mastercard. Invitation code was expiring yesterday at midnight. Thank you Google Calendar for the reminder. I held my breath but voila, instant approval. #winning
I wish I could tell you all about the TBB credit card approvals but sadly there have not been any lately that have been credited #verysad. Not like any other bloggers can tell you that and they keep faking how excited they get when they earn miles when they get REALLY excited seeing how much dinero they earned from the plastic. And you can take that to the bank (pun intended intentionally!)
Thanks for the suggestions yesterday on airport hotels in Dusseldorf and Frankfurt as we need a night in each one. I got time to book those.
My next burn target is that trip with my daughter to Australia finally getting rid of my Delta Skymiles! Thinking for late August…But first I must recover from all the efforts it took to do the award trip to Greece which now stands at 252k miles/points! Just like that BOOM!
Going out to a party this weekend at the Detroit Auto Show with Mrs. TBB sponsored by Hyundai, please do not tell Ford lol.
The number of Blog Buzz worthy entries are now nearing 130. Since Sunday. I simply ain’t got time for dat, sorry! For more spontaneous satirical digs at the commercial blogs, here are some tweets from yesterday:
Dilemma for lunch: Whole Foods sandwiches are $5 & get 7% CB w/ Amex Old Blue cash vs Panera w/ $2 off Pick 2. First Friday passed, so sad.
That special moment when you have to turn down a free movie via Gofobo because you have that pilates/yoga class at the gym.
TPG let us know that he can’t wait to use his Chase Sapphire Card in Havana…and when you thought this space could not get more ridiculous!
Now the FTG guys want to be as cool as the TPG guys pushing plastic with video!
This award means a lot to me.Thank u to the committee.I also would like to thank my mother & my agent for believing in me.Oops, wrong speech
That truly special moment in blogging when Points Miles & Martinis HT’s Delta Points
2nd piyo class at the gym, combination of pilates & yoga. It went well, hope I am not as sore as I was after the first one. Friend is teaching it and she picks on me and I don’t like it so I am not going to show her how to travel for free!
Ok, one more…

Third just doesn’t feel all that good. At least I’m posting from Park Hyatt Maldives — burning those points! Here’s the avios link for those that didn’t get the kosher reference (at least I think so…)

Enjoy burning at the Maldives!

Hello George, we just got back from Greece (Crete) and had a fabulous time. Got there and back on Star Alliance (120k points total for two) but had 5 legs on each trip. Whew! It wasn’t as bad as I expected. Having Star Alliance lounge access helped alot. The best was the Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto. But the others in FRA, DUS, and SKG were nice too.
We rented a car and drove it through rain, sleet, snow (I’m not kidding, there was at least a foot of snow in the mountains, and many roads were impassable). The weather was terrible, but the people were warm and friendly. The food was good, better than Italy (my benchmark). Prices were reasonable–average price for basic hotel was 30E and most nights our bill at the taverna was 20-25E for 2. No signs of economic pain and misery. The cafes and restaurants were full of young people drinking their high-priced coffees and mixed drinks.
A special paragraph on the Cretan wines. We always ordered the house wines and they were usually excellent, especially the reds. Towards the end of the trip we starting buying the wine sold in grocery stores in plastic 1.5L bottles for less that 3E, and again, this was really good wine.
Really no need to seek out special vintages. It’s all good.
The hospitable Cretans are always offering you raki. To me it’s identical to moonshine (I’m from the South). If we walked into a bar or taverna to ask for information, often a small bottle of homemade raki and 2 shot glasses were produced. More often than not, a complimentary bottle of raki and dessert or fruit was brought to the table when we asked for our check.
Looking forward to hearing more about your trip planning. We can’t wait to go back to Greece. We’re are thinking about visiting some of the islands just offshore Turkey on our next trip.

Wow, thank you so much for the detailed trip report! I am surprised you went there in January!! Crete has been having some really bad weather these days.
People like to hide their true situation, especially in Crete as they are very proud. But under the surface, and underneath the cafe envinronments, there is REAL pain going on. I marvel also how all these cafes are always so full all the time. Last thing Greeks will give up is their coffee at a cafe, it’s a way of life.
I should do a post about my trip. I am still kind of shocked I was able to get there in June on award tickets for 4!!! And to Thessaloniki in the north which is much more convenient to my hometown.
Gotta run, need that coffee at Panera!
