This is the first day I struggled to find enough worthy links to share with you. I did not do anything differently. Is the blogosphere slowing down? Am I becoming too eclectic? Am I mesmerized with Ken Bone’s sweater? #mysteries
This post goes into detail about what we are dealing with: How to Beat United’s Draconian New Routing Restrictions. This is NOT for newbies!
My take: The vast majority of loyalty members would not have a clue what is going on and will just take what the computer gives them. The agents will blame the computer too after the initial bitching dies down. The prices in miles will keep going up. The airlines will keep reducing First Class capacity, sell more of them and the few upgrades will be only going to the very top Elites, the road warriors, whose companies pay an arm and two legs for them. Until one day, following the Delta script, voila! “We heard you members, the current process is too complex, so we enhance your frequent flyer program, every seat is available, you pay based on what the ticket costs”. See you all in row 32, hopefully not the middle seat #theend Flat bed all you can while you can!
The Essential Ritz Carlton Properties. Some interesting choices I was not aware. I wish I had the affiliate link to pump this card #justkidding #notreally
The American Way. An article about the AA and US merger first appeared in the TBB comments by reader GringoLoco. Then it became a whole post on the View From The Wing. If I had a dollar every…#nevermind.

Funny how there is no outrage about American award (no)availability.
There is basically nothing left to book. They destroyed everything. My recent strategy
was to book LAX-JFK in Flagship First a day or two in advance. It was almost always
available. I made tons of dummy bookings before the devaluation and kept changing
the dates. Flew this all the time. They killed it a couple of months ago for good.
There is NOTHING available for Europe, even last minute. Unless you want to fly British
with 4 connections. Nothing on AB or IB. Only ghost space on FinAir.
Even AAnytime awards are getting ridiculously expensive, for LHR-LAX it’s a success (!)
to find a 110,000 mile/business ticket, usually it’s 185,000 and more. Burning my last miles…
Wish I could transfer my pile of AAcrap to United, at least for me, there is always last minute
Europe availability on Lufthansa. Crazy expensive, but it does exist.

I personally love it when AA gouges people for 80k carribbean award coach seats. Awesome AA #winning

Yeah, it’s not like this is new. I believe I have linked to Dan’s posts indicating that AA miles are now worse than Skypesos…which is an incredible feat if you think about it!.
I think the vast majroity of people out there are best served with a Citi Double Cash and save their energy for more productive endeavors #yikes

I agree with the AA comments. I am so frustrated/disgusted trying to find award space on AA to anywhere also. I also have checked for last minute and far out for Europe and nada. No saver space except on BA. Don’t they have to make 1 saver seat available to keep up appearances at least!

Wait until the “thought leader” says why he loves AA and he trusts their AAdvantage program.
TBBTheDude says
@ It’s you: See my comment above yours. I think my wife, charged with finding AA space for Europe in 2017, is completely turned off with this miles stuff right now!
@ John: Yeah right, lol.

Thank you for the blog, great links to read up on.
As for AA problems, my counter point is Philly. They fly old U.S. Airways routes, you can still find seats out of PHL, recently booked direct flights to Portugal, for summer 2017. Not always, but frequently I am able to go out of PHL. Of course, the planes are not the same ones as out of JFK or LAX of DFW, but if you need to get to Europe on miles, there is space there…
Cheers,
PedroNY

Yeah…Philly and Manchester…for the bone leftovers…
Andy says
BA is not only bad because of the fees. Transferring in London is like going to hell.
And sorry, I’m sure Philadelphia is a great city, but there is no way I’m gonna go to Europe
from LAX through there and take a crappy old USAir plane. With the terrible ex-USAir crew.
My worst flight ever was from Charlotte on one of those.
TBBTheDude says
With way too many AA miles in the bank…I will go through Philly if I have to fly Spirit to get there if it means I can get to Europe for freeee 🙂
I see your point but if there is no other way and you have too many with extremely bleak prospects of using them…what are you gonna do? 🙂
Ryan says
I was pleasantly surprised on a recent trip with the wife PHL-LHR in J – crew was great and everything. But, I’ve traditionally not been overly impressed with UScareways crews so I know it can be hit-or-miss.
AA availability is the pits though. Really seems like it’s all downhill with every one of the remaining airline programs. When will the glory days return??? 🙁

I agree with the American comments. Trying to find a saver business on American from Hawaii to the West Coast is impossible. They have probably one in a 3 month span and the flight from Hawaii to the connecting flight to the final destination is economy.

See comments above. Slypesos look golden compared to AA miles now #wow
Eagerly awaiting for The Points Guy Inc. to adjust AA valuations any…day now lol.

What the heck (and I’m the one getting in trouble for my post’?) is going on in that GIF? Taser demo? Who are the 2 guys dressed in white, not making a motion to help? Fire is CGI…..Buzz please explain, I’ve had the crabs once but it was not THAT bad.

GEORGE JUST WANT TO CONFIRM THAT i am to meet up with you and Nate at the
Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport (TKI) Centurion Lounge upon my arrival. Please don’t leave me stranded again, like when you guys said to meet up in the basement of the ALAMO.
Just checked to see if MMS is writing about MATCH.COM…..thought he might of had enough grief with hook up sites.
TBBTheDude says
I have no idea what the phuck is going on on that gif. And part of the reason I posted it. Could not stop screaming WTF 🙂
Hehe, nice digs about Khomeini and match.com. I am now going to wipe clean my Ashley Madison account woohoo. Mind you, it was just…one. And it was just one lol.
