Happy New Year Buzz.
The Boulder fire apparently started about 2 miles from our home. We saw a building on fire out our window, and there were ferocious, sustained 70 mph winds. We loaded all we could into the car and headed 50 miles north. Meanwhile, I got around 100 emails from the electric utility over two days, half saying there is an outage, then a few minutes later saying outage over.
Those winds actually saved our place as they took the fire east-8 or more miles! This was a runaway forest fire in the middle of an urban/suburban area. Almost 1,000 homes gone. Now there’s a military tank or other vehicle blocking access to many streets. All those people with nothing.
Many talk bravely about rebuilding but huge increases in property values likely leave many underinsured. And where do you get people and materials for all that?
Sad times here.

Hope you are ok. Frightening!

Terrifying! We had a southern Cal brush-fire blast close to the house when I was a kid and I still remember it vividly. So glad your place got spared!
TBBTheDude says
Sam, I was thinking about you, glad you are okay. I can not imagine losing a home…

Thanks for the lists! The motion picture list is fascinating.

No time for a Buzz post tomorrow…
Will publish a Best of Web post. Or another 2021 Best lists post.
Too busy with quarter/year end work.
Shocked to see two cc conversions this month already, thank you.
More than 1 million cases here today in the US. While in a city in China they had 3 asymptomatic cases and they go a on complete lockdown….The contrast is…yuge.
And the stock market says phuck all that, time to go higher baby…
It is just getting really strange out there…

I was just at an In-N-Out and some mongoloid was shouting that all of us wearing masks were sheep. I was aware people like this existed but it was my first IRL encounter with an internet comment section come to life.
When people talk about Covid never going away, it’s no joke in this country.
The Old Goat, aka The Masked Poster says
Here in Contra Costa County, CA, that burger chain got shut down for refusing to check vax status of people wanting to eat indoors, as required by local ordinance. Still able to provide drive through, just not indoor dining. Just like some notable politicians, refusing to abide by the rules. Good thing they weren’t around when smallpox was here, or we’d all be in serious trouble.

In-n-Out hamburgers are great but the ownership is…, well, sketch to put it mildly…

Totally off topic, but I was just going through some old bookmarks and found Travel is Free; whatever became of Drew? He wrote some pretty good stuff, and I know his wife works for Frequent Miler, but where’s Drew? And their rental business?
And my perpetual question about Ric, blogger at Loyalty Traveler?
Of course, of them all, you’re the best, but don’t go all big headed on that. Stick around and consider the tax benefits of blog expenses; maybe hire Drew as an intern, even if he is in the Witness Protection Program.
TBBTheDude says
Last I heard of Drew was he left The Points Guy and since then….nothing.
Sad to no longer read Ric Loyalty Traveler. He was really an odd blogger at the clickbait plasticpumping network Boarding Area has become. Goes to show you that it is really SUPER hard to “make it” in the online world when you have integrity in your DNA! I hope he is okay, his wife had health issues when he stopped I think.
Just did my annual accounting for the blog for my 2021 taxes….two thumbs up for the blog expenses 🙂 Sadly, no blog funds are enough to pay any interns, even the lowly paid ghost writers pumping “content” all over Boarding Area thought leading blogs 😉
