Where is Barack Obama?
Yeah really…where have you been dude? Well, the article tries to answer this tough question. Not sure if you are going to like the answer. Or maybe he is on to something. Or whatever…
Beyond the anguish is, often, simply bafflement: How did the most ubiquitous man in America for eight years virtually disappear? Over the course of his presidency, Obama cast himself as the country’s secular minister as much as its commander-in-chief, someone who understood the moral core of the nation and felt compelled to insist that we live up to it. What explains his near absence from the political stage, where he might argue publicly against the reversals of his policy accomplishments, and also from American life more broadly? What is keeping him from speaking more frequently about the need to protect democratic norms and the rule of law, to be decent people? Where is the man who cried after Sandy Hook and sang in Charleston, who after each mass shooting tried to soothe an outraged nation, who spoke of American values in his travels across the globe? And, tactically, what is behind the relative silence of one of the most popular figures alive just as American politics appears to so many to be on the brink of breaking?
“The important thing to think about with Obama in the context of politics is what his overall goals are,” says Jim Messina, his 2012 presidential-campaign manager and informal adviser. Obama’s first goal is to adhere to the precedent George W. Bush set, leaving him alone and respecting the peaceful transfer of power. The second is to engage a younger generation of leaders. “And then, three, how to carefully decide when you have to sacrifice one and two, especially one. He has been really careful about No. 1,” Messina says. “He could pick a fight with Donald Trump every day, and (a) the only winner would be Donald Trump, and (b) we would kind of get into this back-and-forth the Clintons have gotten themselves into: Is there too much Obama? Not enough Obama?”
The article is very informative and goes on and on about how he is focusing on his foundation and his memoirs, his mistakes that helped the rise of Trump, his complicated relationship with the Democratic party, and even his Netflix deal.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. To the right wing blog readers, send me GOOD material to read and learn expressing your side!
The rock that fell to Earth
What a story! This is the byline:
How a meteorite hunter’s obsession took him from the mountains of Colorado, to the Bundy Ranch, and eventually landed him in jail
I had no idea about the market out there in meteorite rocks first of all! Anyway, this is a story of a complete nut. We probably know or have seen someone like this guy in our lives. Whatever you do to try to put some common sense into the man, you realize it is completely hopeless. One of these phuckers moved in next door to me and we moved. Actually, it worked out great, thank you for your concern!
Humanity would be so much better off if extremists of both sides were abducted by aliens and released in space!
Reed figured that Curry would just blow away like so much cosmic dust. Instead, Reed’s rejection of Curry’s treasure would become the opening move in a twisted game that transformed Curry in ways neither of them could have imagined. Over the next eight years, Curry went from a passionate rockhound with a corny sense of humor to a disturbed man trapped inside a distorted universe of his own making. He rejected not only the standards of scientific evidence but also the most fundamental principles of our legal system. This unlikely trajectory would ultimately leave Reed in desperate fear for his safety and Curry sitting in a jail cell in the desert, facing the rest of his life locked up.
It’s just a train wreck with this Curry guy…What great writing!
“I Was Devastated”: Tim Berners-Lee, the Man Who Created the World Wide Web, Has Some Regrets
And he should! Remember when in the early 90s the buzz was how this WWW thingie will usher us into bliss. Or something like that. Now we drown in clickbait, fake news, scams, selfies, hacks galore, dweebs pretending they are experts and I can go on for ever, sad!
Well, Tim says that he has a plan to fix it. You should listen to him I think…
He is now embarking on a third act—determined to fight back through both his celebrity status and, notably, his skill as a coder. In particular, Berners-Lee has, for some time, been working on a new software, Solid, to reclaim the Web from corporations and return it to its democratic roots.
The idea is simple: re-decentralize the Web. Working with a small team of developers, he spends most of his time now on Solid, a platform designed to give individuals, rather than corporations, control of their own data. “There are people working in the lab trying to imagine how the Web could be different. How society on the Web could look different. What could happen if we give people privacy and we give people control of their data,” Berners-Lee told me. “We are building a whole eco-system.”
There is more detail on what Solid is and what it does. I like it…
When asked what ordinary people can do, Berners-Lee replied, “You don’t have to have any coding skills. You just have to have a heart to decide enough is enough. Get out your Magic Marker and your signboard and your broomstick. And go out on the streets.” In other words, it’s time to rise against the machines.
Lets do this TBBers! But you can do it better with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card with my links. LOL, sorry I could not resist this one!
The Biggest Digital Heist in History Isn’t Over Yet
Wow, this blew me away. $1.2 Billion missing and the malware making ATMs spit out cold hard cash lives on!
I had never heard of the Carbanak malware. Or maybe I did and I just forgot. It happens when you cross 40 you know!
Since late 2013, this band of cybercriminals has penetrated the digital inner sanctums of more than 100 banks in 40 nations, including Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S., and stolen about $1.2 billion, according to Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency. The string of thefts, collectively dubbed Carbanak—a mashup of a hacking program and the word “bank”—is believed to be the biggest digital bank heist ever. In a series of exclusive interviews with Bloomberg Businessweek, law enforcement officials and computer-crime experts provided revelations about their three-year pursuit of the gang and the mechanics of a caper that’s become the stuff of legend in the digital underworld.
This is a fascinating story. And so well investigated and written. Sadly, no blogger in the miles and points space comes even close, sad!
Just be careful out there!
Ice Poseidon’s Lucrative, Stressful Life as a Live Streamer
WTFisthis??????
Why so many people watch this sad kid stream his life online? Why in the name of Zeus? What the hell is the world coming to? Well, actually I have never heard of this guy and the more I read the story about him the more sad I felt for him. But more sad for some of the people who watch him. I mean, REALLY sad!
I recently watched a science fiction movie where we were all living on an alternate VR world. Is this where this thing is going?

Wonderful links this morning!
Thanks.

I thought so myself, you are welcome 🙂
I thought about doing live streaming my family members’ credit card apps but then I thought this may not be such a good idea 😉

It’s coming home 🙂

Sadly we’re left with the European championship from here on. France more or less represents Africa.
TBBTheDude says
Where will the European countries be in the World Cup without immigrants? 🙂
MileageUpdate says
where would the US be without immigrants?

Bronze for sunday! Been using the AMZN links! WOOT!
TBBTheDude says
Thank you!
Amazon bought Woot.com too!

Great links!
I’m still recovering from our loss to France. Cavani’s absence was noticeably for sure.
Any update on the Iberia 9k Avios saga? It’s fun reading !
TBBTheDude says
Not having Cavani was a huge blow to Uruguay, no doubt!
There will be numerous posts still about the Iberia deal, no doubt about that too!
ABC says
Regarding Obama’s absence from the public sphere “… adhere to the precedent George W. Bush set, leaving him alone and respecting the peaceful transfer of power”.
GWB was hated because of the financial crisis and the failure in Iraq. GWB knew he was a failure and just wanted to disappear.
I can’t see this happening with Trump. Unless he goes completely senile at age 74 or 78.
So much for establishing precedence.
TBBTheDude says
I agree with what you wrote.
Not sure the country can take another 2+ years of this dude. Suddenly, the North Koreans are bad again and we are back to talking to allies in the South and Japan while Pompeo delivers Elton John CDs, Un blows him off and then when he leaves they call the US demands regrettable…I mean, you just can’t make this stuff up….At least Trump will not get the Nobel peace prize now.
Full disclosure: Obama did not deserve it either 🙂
MileageUpdate says

If I did a tenth, a tenth of what she did, I would be in jail today!
Ryan says
Yeah he’ll never shut up will he?
Too bad George (TBB George not Bush!) isn’t a natural born citizen, or we should set up a campaign to make him President!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Hell no…all the scrutiny I will get from my seedy past would be unbearable LOL.

Buzz-
I have a question about your Amazon link.
I am an Amazon Prime member and I placed an order on a Thursday. It came up saying I could have Prime Free 2 day shipping and I would receive my order on Tuesday. So I got out my calculator and, sure enough, Tuesday is more than 2 days after Thursday.
So being a true TBB believer, I asked myself “WTF”?
Then I remembered that TBB normally doesn’t publish on Thursday or Saturday, so I had to re-calibrate my day count-sort of like using base 3. Day 1 is Friday, Day 2 in Sunday (if TBB publishes) and thus my order gets shipped on Sunday, and delivery on Tuesday is indeed 2 day delivery using the post-Gregorian, TBB calendar.
Now you’re probably wondering what my question is. Well, my question is: Doesn’t it cost you and Bezos a lot of money to have someone in the Amazon fulfillment center in Wala Wala keeping track of all this? Do you signal them ahead of time if there will be a Saturday post so they can get off their butts and ship my order?
Please answer soon before LIve and Let’s Fly starts one of his hard-hitting investigations.
TBBTheDude says
I am pretty certain the Amazon Prime delivery dates have nothing to do with the TBB blog publication dates. You know, the awesome TBB Amazon link is ALWAYS here 🙂
Your last sentence—————>LOL
TitanMenace says
OneCreditCardataTime:
“No, Iberia Plus Members Aren’t To Blame For Iberia’s Botched Promotion”
The “deal of the year” that just keeps on bringing content to the bloggers…
Ryan says
Tim Berners-Lee has regrets about creating the http://WWW….I think God must have regrets about creating Earth, too! It kind of happens with every technological advance though, doesn’t it? The printing press, the industrial revolution, electrical power, radio, nuclear power, etc…there is always some initial Utopian ideal – or something like that. And while those things have brought good they are never the panacea that some think they will be (electricity might come the closest). Because we humans haven’t changed – we’ve still got the same problems, foibles, tunnel vision, etc. but now we have all that plus nuclear power or the WWW.
I first misread the headline as “Obama Hunting Meteorites”!
The stupid Ibera deal…smh
TitanMenace says
and now we get:
“Is Iberia Now Denying the Avios Promotion for Even More Reasons?” by Miles to Memories
Hard to add an exclamation mark when headline asks a question 🙂
Sam says
Excellant gramatical observation.
Ryan says
Who could have predicted this wouldn’t end well?! lol But who cares since it’s fodder for blog posts!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Can’t wait for the:
“I got mine, here is what I did!”
“I booked my award, here is where I am flying in Business Class!”
“Trip report of my Iberia business class I am flying for freeeee” yeah…
“If you do not have any Iberia Avios, here are all the cards that can get you BA Avios, click the phucking links and fly for free just like me!”
I could go on…
flyernick says
Wow, that Ice Poseidon phenomenon is really a terrifying bit of society I had no idea about. Maybe I’ll retire to a nice little island somewhere…
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yeah, I had the exact same reaction. My kids today were both like “so what, it is entertainment”…
And no they don’t watch him or other live streamers.
But son told me live streaming of gamers is really big. I don’t play any games and watching others play games seems like pure torture.
Or maybe I am a dinosaur…
