Here we go with the fourth and final edition of the 2024 Annual Best of Lists.
Adding a twist to this edition as I added two lists that feature the absolute worst, one even named in honor of one of those all time ridiculous felon grifters, Martin Shkreli. Enjoy!
77 Facts That Blew Our Minds in 2024
I had a hard time to pick five. But since I like doing hard things, here we go: 🙂
In the Middle Ages, people took their pet squirrels for walks and decked them out in flashy accessories.
The total employees of the government’s free tax-preparation software, Direct File, are outnumbered by the lobbyists working for Intuit.
Sylvester Graham, the inventor of the graham cracker, thought his crackers would curtail masturbation.
Sigmund Freud said he put his patients on the couch because he could not deal “with being stared at by other people for eight hours a day.”
Chewing gum became a baseball standby in part because Philip Wrigley, the heir to the Wrigley Company, gave it to players in the Chicago Cubs clubhouse after he took over ownership of the team in 1932.

George, thanks for another post full of great content. BTW with regards to Hyatt Globalist status, we’ve concluded we are going to let it go this year after qualifying for the past 7 years. Can’t get it organically and not prepared to put all our spend towards more Hyatt points when we could be using that spend to gain Singapore airlines miles. Suite upgrades without using certificates are few and far between unless it’s a short stay, lack of lounges and if you manage to stay enough to get Club Access Awards can use those for free breakfasts if that is what you desire so maybe 30 nights gives all any of us need. Plus we also have the situation of a lack of properties in Australia Pacific so the certificates are quite useless for us and don’t want to do mental gymnastics to ensure the certificates will be valid for overseas trips down the track.

I am starting to lean towards kicking the elite habit to the curb in hotels too. Mostly because I just overeat 🙂 Actually, the reason is that this kitchen remodel project is going way too slow which keeps me from booking travel as we don’t known when they will actually be here to do the work. Going to give them an ultimatum to speed things up because at the present pace this is not going to happen in 2025.

As I was typing the response to Vicky, my next comment would have been “Marking tardy here”. But you made it so I am holding off.
Hmm, I am wondering if a 2nd weekly post makes it here, is it better to be on a Monday or Tuesday morning?
The Friday post stays…and I have at least 1/3 of the material in a draft already.
Snowing here.

That doesn’t matter to me because I read THIS blog and not that one! You’re the best!
Tough morning or I woulda posted sooner. Pacific time though so I am always a tad late anyway. Thanks for all the links, I’ll parcel them out in my spare time the next couple days.
