Here is another post with five links about a must read story featuring the 9/11 Windows on the World restaurant manager who lost 79 of his employees that horrific day, 12 hours in a Florida Covid-19 ICU unit, the other Afghan women, the over handed and too expanded and way too long US 9/11 response and finish with some amazing photographs in the 2021 Drone Photo Awards. Thanks for reading and special thanks to the one reader who got a credit card with my links and the two readers doing monthly Paypal donations to keep this ship going for I am not sure how long, it’s been almost nine years blogging in obscurity!

He Was the Manager of Windows on the World
This is the best read since my last Best of Web issue. By far, wow! I think I was shaking at some point reading this…
‘I Was Responsible for Those People’ – The manager of Windows on the World survived 9/11, while 79 of his employees died. He’s still searching for permission to move on.
Stories like this deserve a subscription to The Atlantic imho. No excerpts. Read the whole thing. And please sit down before you do, you have been warned.
Twelve Hours in a Florida Covid-19 ICU
Before another anti-vaxx person falls ill and begs the medical personnel to save their ass, maybe read this to get a sense of what hospitals are going through and, I don’t know, if you have any dignity left perhaps be kind to them and get yourselves and those around you that you supposedly love vaccinated? So, we can beat this thing and give these people who have been so beat up for so long a break for a change? Come on!
On this ward at Morton Plant Hospital, nurses are overwhelmed by the number of new, desperate cases.
I feel horrible traveling to Utah next week. I want to do my part to not add to their burden. At least I am not flying to the Maldives…
The Other Afghan Women
In the countryside, the endless killing of civilians turned women against the occupiers who claimed to be helping them.
A couple of things about this one as I was reading it. First, I felt sorry for these people and thinking how lucky we all are not living in such a place. Also, holy crap, when you get to the point of them preferring Taliban then you know you lost all arguments as occupiers. Or maybe we tried to save them by more violence…Hopeless.
After 9/11, the U.S. Got Almost Everything Wrong
A mission to rid the world of “terror” and “evil” led America in tragic directions.
As a society, we succumbed to fear.
We chose the wrong way to seek justice.
At home, we reorganized the government the wrong way.
Abroad, we squandered the world’s goodwill.
We picked the wrong enemies.
Can you imagine if we kept the mission in Afghanistan to destroy/degrade Al-Qaeda and get Osama bin Laden and did not shift it to searching for “weapons of mass destruction” in Iraq? And left Afghanistan 10 years ago? And all this money instead spent on, I don’t know, infrastructure, fight poverty, lower taxes and stuff like that? Maybe, public health too?
Never mind…
Dark and heavy themes today, let’s finish this post with something uplifting ok?
The Best Pictures Of 2021 Drone Photo Awards

I demand a refund due to the disappointing lack of Caribbean nards coverage this post.

I am on strike, I can not do this anymore.
Next post whenever I feel like it. And with just three people supporting this blog this month, oh man, do I feel abandoned or what! So we are in the third week of the month so I guess one post per supporter it is.
I guess daily clickbait and cc pumping wins.
See ya.

Congratulations and thanks for sticking it out for 9 years.

Yeah really. I was done after about five.
That drone photo doesn’t even look real, it’s too perfect.

What started as a joke for three months is still around approaching year 9 and I am the most shocked off all. It’s like crack 🙂

Windows article very moving – thanks!

You are welcome. Yeah, most stunning read of the week for sure.

Thank you for the comments.
This morning I was shocked to see a second conversion, thanks to the reader who chose to support the blog and inject some “keep blogging” dna cells in me lol. I think all this blogging is making my psyche fragile 🙂
Now I can not wait to thank myself for getting that Ink Unlimited card, they are taking for ever. I had to talk to an analyst and she pushed it upwards with a recommendation to approve but still not in my account online yet, grrrrr.
Worthy material is accumulating in the queue, hope I find time to draft a post to publish on Monday while I am traveling the “friendly” AA skies…
I am seeing so many miles friends who are just posting travel pics enthusiastically. And they are ones who were extremely careful with Covid not that long ago. It is weird, I guess I see now why there were so many waves in that 1918 pandemic. I feel horrible traveling to Utah next week…I guess it is better than traveling to Maldives leaving family with young unvaccinated kids behind smh.
All the pumping bloggers were bitching about Delta Skymiles not long ago but now that Amex has “new” crappy Delta credit card offers they are all out pumping them up. Like they always do. I am preaching to the choir here…
I need to move on…
You all have a great weekend!
Bill says
Didn’t God Save the Points leave Boarding Area? Looks like they slunk back in… to repost something from at least 2019, from the comments.
Maybe you should just use =RAND() to pull a random previous blog post and set it to post every 3 days?
TBBTheDude says
I noticed that blog posts more cc pumping…guess rubbing elbows over in BA worked its magic…
They are all pumping the crappy Delta cards again…it never stops.

Buzz, just got back from Moab last week – we camped at Dead Horse Park, so I can’t give you any hotel feedback (although the Hyatt Place looked tempting, especially after a few days in a tent). Many great short hikes in Arches (which actually closed down for a few hours over Labor Day weekend due to crowds). Make sure you catch a sunrise or sunset at Dead Horse State Park or Grandview Point in Canyonlands. Lots of outdoor seating at restaurants – saw a few more masks than other areas in Utah. Also great night skies despite haze from Western wildfires…..
TBBTheDude says
Staying at that Hyatt Place 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions!
