ON MY MIND
Is it a coincidence that posts such as “10 Best Credit Card Signups for April” don’t really differ much from the previous month. #Recyclingaffiliatelinks=BORING!
We are in the final turn to April 15 and I am in very good shape! I should think about what to pack for Norway and check out the weather there.
MILES/POINTS
I discovered a new CVS store today. I did not even have to search to find the Vanilla cards, yes! Cashier was so nice she wanted to put them in the bag. I told her to hold the bag please.
Credit Card Debt & How To Get It Under Control. From Frequent Flyer University. A really good post on one of my favorite subjects. “The bottom line is that if you have Credit Card Debt, your number one priority should be to pay that debt off and not sign up for any new Cards!” WELL SAID!
It can not be said often enough!
TRAVEL

20 Signs You Travel Too Much. From Traveling Well For Less. I thought I will place in this category as it has been neglected lately. And I can do this as it is my blog and I can do whatever I want:-) Here is the list below:
1. Your family and friends ask you for travel advice instead of using a travel agent or Google.
2. You have the in-flight menu memorized.
3. You have more foreign currency in your wallet than currency from your own country.
4. You’re not sure what time or day it is because you cross the International Date Line frequently.
5. Other passengers mistake you for off-duty flight crew.
6. You’ve lived in the same house or apartment for over twenty years but the neighbors think you’ve just moved in.
7. You take your cue for which side of the road to drive in by the location of the steering wheel in the rental car.
8. You’re read more US Todays than your local paper.
9. Most of your Facebook friends live in other states or countries.
10. When asked to show ID, you automatically pull out your passport.
11. You have a permanent spot at the off-airport parking lot.
12. You can pack for a multi-week trip in less than 30 minutes.
13. Tourist boards ask you for tips and things to do in their city.
14. You’re on a first name basis with the TSA agents at the airport.
15. When you’re not traveling, the airlines call to make sure you’re okay.
16. The only toiletries in your home are travel sized.
17. You leave your mail on permanent vacation hold, only stopping by the post office in between trips.
18. You carry 2 passports, not because you have dual citizenship, but because the first passport is full but has unexpired foreign visas.
19. Your credit card company issues a fraud alert only when your credit card is used in your own country versus when it’s used abroad.
20. The Passport Office sends you a postcard reminder to renew your passport. (Not true, but wouldn’t that be nice.)
The Miles Professor says
I want to personally respond to a few of these and why they may be true, unrelated to travel. I only take 20 working days a year for vacation!
1. Your family and friends ask you for travel advice instead of using a travel agent or Google.
– Honestly, who uses travel agents? Everyone calls each other for travel advice, travel much or not!
9. Most of your Facebook friends live in other states or countries.
-Yes, but I myself have lived and have much family in other states and countries… I thought that’s what Facebook is for. Keeping in touch with people far away… the ones here I can just talk to.
10. When asked to show ID, you automatically pull out your passport.
– This is only because I misplaced my driver’s license two years ago and haven’t gotten around to replacing it yet. I live in Manhattan… no one here drives!
12. You can pack for a multi-week trip in less than 30 minutes.
– I usually wake up at 4 am to pack for a trip that morning. I find it is much more efficient and exciting when you have *exactly* the amount of time you need to do something. I also arrive at the airport 30 minutes before takeoff. Nothing worse than inefficiency and wasted time.

Hey TMP, have stats on your readership counts? Do you push credit cards in your blog?
The Miles Professor says
So many questions!
My blog is very new (on the order of weeks) and I have about 70 email subscribers and 80 Facebook followers so it’s exciting people want to read what I write 🙂
I tend to just write about my personal strategies (and my trips to the Caribbean). The strategies do include credit cards, though I only tend to concentrate on a few. I view it as, if someone agrees a credit card I write about is good and decides to apply and I can get a commission, I may as well. If I can’t get a commission, I’ll send them to the bank application directly. Maybe I’d be more aggressive about credit cards if I thought of this as a business, but I have a full time job so it’s just fun! And like I said, I like posting pictures of the Caribbean.
MickeyW says
Since when did 2 questions become “so many questions”. Math isn’t your strong point is it then?
Just kidding. Take it easy. I like your blog and I think you are underrated. Don’t narrow down your niche to just Caribbean although that definitely is your selling point. Just a thought.

Is it just me or is it like clockwork that you get the “10 best credit cards for xxx” “Chase Ink Bold” “Citi Hilton Reserve” EVERY MONTH.
It’s just rinse, wash and repeat with posts every month. I bet if you take a look at the major bloggers over the past few months you will see the same posts, just with different dates and slightly tweaked subjects.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
No, it’s just not you. It’s like clockwork.

Hey, I ask for a bag if not given one for my beans cards…….lol

Why is every blogger and their mother kissing AA’s behind? A bit annoying to read all these gushing reports of “brand new planes” and “best business class toilet”. I am an EXP flyer on AA and I am very happy with them, but no way in hell do I think they deserve the kind of gushing over-the-top coverage they get on these blogs.
I always thought Lucky was a UA 1K flyer – not sure when and why he switched over to AA.

You should ask him…

To save you time:
Once upon a time in Candy Land, some blogger was politely asked not to bring his or her business to UA ever again after, as a frequent flyer and 1K, he or she sent in complaints about every little detail after every flight and got $200+ certificates from customer service in compensation each time. He or she then had so many certificates that he or she actively handed out these certificates at gatherings (I’ve read “tossed into a crowd”) and encouraged others to be active complainers over tiny not-really-problems for certificates. Then there was some story about being able to use the same discount certificate over and over again for different flights, exploiting a glitch in either UA’s or CO’s system. United Airlines did not appreciate wire fraud and/or perquisite abuse. This little blogger hasn’t recently published any trip reports on United.
That’s all hearsay as I’ve read it other places and have never met or corresponded with this blogger.
In conclusion, always tip the cleaning staff at a hotel.
And they all lived happily ever after. The end.

That was quite educational – thanks. Also a bit disappointing to read as I have typically been a fan of said blogger.

I am not going there…

The list of bloggers of whom I’m a “fan” starts with Seth, includes those two denizens of Ann Arbor, and is quite a short list. Most of the big ones are “shrewd businessmen disguised as dorks” who sold out a while back, as MileNerd correctly noted.
Shortly after I learned about this hobby and began exploring, I read a post by an unnamed blogger in which he or she explained why he or she opposed tipping hotel housekeeping staff. I was absolutely appalled that someone who was supposedly widely-traveled could be so sheltered, selfish, arrogant, and obtuse. I understand that the his or her opinion on the matter has changed since; my opinion on her or him has not.

We absolutely love your blog and find many of your post’s to be exactly what I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content available for you? I wouldn’t mind composing a post or elaborating on a lot of the subjects you write about here. Again, awesome web site!
