MVP POST OF THE DAY
Mile Nerd: “Why Everyone Sucks”
Drop everything and go read it. Right. Now. Ok?
We all suck:-)
Then Do It for The Points had a response to it: “I agree and disagree with Mile Nerd’s Rant“
I do not have time to elaborate on this tonight as I am going to finally catch a movie! I must say I absolutely loved them both as I find a lot of truth in them! I will try to find some time to post my thoughts about them over the weekend.
Never forget, we all suck anyway. Tell it Mile Nerd:”The majority of these bloggers sold out their content long ago so they could make a buck.”
ON MY MIND
Screw FTU and Chicago Seminars! Fiji anyone? 🙂
This section is about what is on my mind and it purely reflects the numerous deficiencies in it. Yes, I did inhale in college…a lot! Legally speaking, it reflects my own opinions only!
There was a post about Quebec City in the Frugal Travel Guy blog by an “Andy Shuman”. It led with a fantastic picture of the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac hotel which we have stayed in and really enjoyed it! Some decently helpful information about the city and how to get there. I was thinking all along “ok, where are the credit card links, could this be the one post without them?”. Well, near the end we get the links for the Sapphire Preferred, Ink Plus and Ink Bold ONLY! NO links for the others mentioned (including the, drumroll please, FAIRMONT Visa, US Airways and others!).WHY? Who inserts these links anyway? Is it Andy, or an Internet Brands staff member who does what they are told. For crying out loud, if you speak so highly of the Fairmont in Quebec (I agree!) why not help your readers apply for the Fairmont Card and instead serve the other three links???
Oh First2Board why?
Ok, I must admit, Mile Nerd inspired me. He sucks too!
MILES/POINTS
I finally received the Club Carlson Business Visa! I called to confirm the promo bonus and switch my address from my office to home only to be told by a US Bank rep that the signing bonus is 10k CC pts instead of 50k. I was furious! The only way to resolve it was….to snail mail or fax proof of the offer to the US Bank compliance department & wait up to 14 business days for a reply! In the meantime three weeks have passed since applying for the card. After blowing off steam on twitter and Flyertalk I…called back and talked with another rep who confirmed the original promo, hooray! I have been waiting for this before I book my award nights in Norway so I can take advantage of the one free award night! Just fyi, my own Club Carslon account number was correctly linked to my account (no new CC account number was opened by US Bank as it has been reported).
Maybe next week wife can go for a set…postponed again!
TRAVEL
The Quebec City Fairmont Chateau Frontenac was great. It helps a lot if you get a suite! For the record, the Quebec City Hilton is great too but may be too much as Category 8 (get used to this now); Hilton’s lounge view and staff are fantastic! Update: Category 6, not 8…Much better value!
Is it possible to make a full time living from travel blogging? At Grumpy Traveller. Very interesting article! Guess these bloggers never discovered credit card affiliate links, oh wait, the site is based in the UK.

Yes. That’s why I posted them. Because they were all the “Buzz”;-)

The first thing that came to my mind after finishing the article was George inviting Jason Steele as a guest blogger here and then trying to convince me a few days later that “Commercial Blogs are here to stay”. I knew the hopes I had built up from this blog was too good to be true.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
MickeyW: I am sorry but not following, can you explain? I only had one guest blog post and agonized whether I should allow Jason to post here. I still think the topic he wrote about was very educational and has been one of my most read blog posts! Yes he is controversial…I agree. I told him to stay off commenting on boards because it does not help his brand. Remember, he has a “different” angle than most in this hobby. He is a writer who writes for other online websites/blogs! I told him he should start his own blog and stuff with a gazillion affiliate links but he doesn’t want to go that route.
And of course commercial blogs are here to stay! I do not see anything wrong (never did) with bloggers making some money off their hard work as long as it is being done in a respectful and NON misleading manner! Not many do it this way…so easy to give in to the “I am going to just mail it in and catch some lazy and/or ignorant folks who will click on my links”…
Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment! Please criticize me if you think I deserve it and tell me ways to improve!

Don’t worry about it too much George. I really think JS is one of the biggest pricks around. It doesn’t matter if he writes for many other blogs. All it means is he is clever is covering up real life incompetence generally. So from that day on it left a bad taste that he of people will be invited to this HOLY blog. I thought you had caved in to networking, even if it is pricks like him, just like what Milenerd had posted in that article.
I think you give way too much credit to all this disclosure nonsense too. It is a diplomatic way of you trying to keep it cool, I get it. But I don’t have a blog and I don’t have to be politically correct. Disclose or not, begging through affiliate links is just lack of self respect or arrogance or both. Like MMS “disclosing” he gets money for pushing creditcard.com Amex PRG 50k offer. He felt too sad for missing out on the January deal so had to get his hands on new affiliate. Flyertalk is full of new clowns who are rejects of these commercial blogs. Just look at the number of 2012/2013 posters. I swear there are more new registrants in the last year than previous 2-3 years combined.
Sorry went off on a tangent there. Now just don’t invite MMS to post here and we will be good friends OK? Keep on keeping on.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Ok. Hope you are not too upset when one day I appear in the MMS Friday blogger interview slot:-)
MickeyW says
LMAO, the keyboard needed some cleaning anyways 🙂

Thanks for the Grumpy Traveller link, very relevant to me.
Travel blogs are definitely NOT, apart from Lucky’s, miles and points blogs. Not in a million years would I even consider going to a travel bloggers meet-up, for instance, even though London is full of them.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Yes I agree. My blog name is a bit misleading “Travel Blogger” Buzz…This is definitely a subset of the vast Travel blogger genre…or, perhaps, totally on its own. But I have not seen a name for them yet. Miles/Points bloggers? Travel hacker bloggers? I think nothing has stuck…yet!

MileNErd is definitely not shy. It’s fun when he goes on a rant.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
If he goes on a rant more often he can get his website’s hits numbers up and finally get some affiliate links of his own so he can suck some more too lol.
