I usually do not make separate posts reviewing other blogs but this is a special post that deserves to be highlighted here!
If you are interested on the controversial issue of Affiliate links this piece by Million Mile Secrets is a MUST read!
What is an Affiliate Link & How Can You Get One?
This was my comment at his site:
Bravo!
You know TBB does not say that a lot;-)
Your method of handling this “touchy” subject and your disclosure policies are something to be admired and imitated.
It would be nice if you can give us some “metrics” on what qualifies to be accepted by Flex Offers and by the banks themselves directly. If you are allowed to do so of course.
Are these the only players in this area? Any others? I do have a problem with authority so having a bank or affiliate (oh how I despise this word) tell me “you can’t do this or that” instantly elevates me to a point of screaming “get off my back u &^)*&)s”
Is there a specific affiliate company for “newbie” bloggers to be associated with?
I still think the way Frequent Miler does this is the best. But I do understand the economics behind it and if it is going to be done your way is the way to do it by the full disclosures.

Why do care to ask the question “Is there a specific affiliate company for “newbie” bloggers to be associated with?”?

Also, the most interesting comment on that post is the one about the multi-level marketing aspect. Amway involved?!?! 🙂 Cant wait to hear more about that!

This whole topic fascinates me!
I just read the MLM topic by milesabound, wow!
Comment of the year about TBB getting affiliate links: “It would be like sending the Pope to sell condoms LOL”
Never laughed so hard, thank you milesabound!!!!
J. Trebuchet says
Because he wants to get affiliate links for his blog?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
With the speed I move this is likely to happen just when I am about to become a full member of AARP:-)
I could have focused on getting an About me page up, a nice logo, bunch of trip reports, a huge email list, blah blah blah. But I don’t…Instead, I have spent countless hours to bring up some practices and name names to improve this community’s blogging practices. I have only made $5, come on guys! Maybe one day I will drop them in a separate tab and announce it here twice a year. If I could get family/friends apply for them when I tell them too…I could make up my expenses at least! And if that ever happens you will see some cautionary language and disclosures that would be the BEST and SCARIEST on the internet, such as:
“Hey you, before you click on that credit card app link, I just want you to ask yourself if you have other credit card debt? If yes, get the f**k out of here and don’t you ever think of applying for a credit card before you pay it off. Go go away!”
J. Trebuchet says
I kid, I kid. Sorry, it was just too tempting. 🙂

One figure I’ve heard is an Alexa rank under 30,000 if you want links from Chase. Other issuers are more lenient.

No, TPG and MMS don’t even have under 30K. Before the trimming of accounts at the end of 2012, it was sub-1million in the Alexa rankings.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I thought TPG was dealing directly with banks and not Flex Offers. TBB is way above either numbers. I guess I could see the sub 1 million happening at some point, especially if I kept the daily Buzz format. But now there is no way it is going to happen.
Not that I care too much about it. If I did, I would have done this by now you know. I still smile by a reader comment a few months ago “If you put up affiliate links I would click the ***t out of them”. Lol.

Tomorrow’s Churning Challenge for FTG:
“Open up the non-affiliate US Air Card and AA 50K miles card from FlyerTalk for your flights. Open up a Club Carlson and Priority Club 80K cards for your hotels”
Or not
TravelBlogger Buzz says
I think I am pretty certain we won’t see anything like this;-)
Sparky says
Wait till they get affiliate links for the Club Carlson card. All the bloggers that have been ignoring it or call it an “okay” card will suddenly see what a great card it is.

We should make our predictions for which cards he’ll pull out of the hat tomorrow to pimp
Obviously the Hilton Reserve will be one of them (has he had one week where it wasn’t?), but which Chase cards do you think it will be tomorrow?
1) CSP
2) CIB
3) CIP
4) CSP, but he’ll “remind” us that there’s other ways to rack up UR points, like the CIB and CIP [insert add’l links]

@ Anonymous #1, you just described my upcoming trip to Central America – all US, AA, CC and PC with a touch of Taca Lifemiles on the side! And of course the eco-lodges are extra cash only but I couldn’t have afforded that trip without the miles and points.

So with Delta changing their Skymiles program to include Revenue, anyone else wondering why FTG is still posting Delta mileage runs on his “deal of the day?”
TravelBlogger Buzz says
You should ask in the comments!
Sparky says
LOL. Yeah, that will get a response…

No point.
“His blog, His rules” means he censors anyone whose “tone” he doesn’t like. And whose tone does he not like? Those who criticize him
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Oh, it is 11.39. I think I should put the short blog post together for tomorrow!
