ON MY MIND
This will be a quick post as my brain is fried. I find myself going through my Google Reader feeds that I am getting even pickier eclectic.
Jason Steele expands his take on the subject of affiliate links and defends them. I agree with some of the points stated. It comes down to the main Con:
A site may be tempted to alter its content in order to push more links.
I see this happen so often is…sickening! Maybe I picked the wrong mission for TBB as I am always sick? 🙂
There is a proposal to create a “Points & Miles Blogs” Forum in FlyerTalk. I support the idea. Feel free to thrown in your two pennies.
I should look into researching Norway more and perhaps looking into shopping for some stuff I may need. And check the weather too!

Steele never missed an opportunity to thrown in the words “maximize” and “I am a writer/freelancer”. Whoever laid him off from his work did a great disservice to miles and points hobbyists.

Ok, go easy on him now;-)

I love how Steele claims the backlash against affiliate link pimping is getting old. Really? It’s the backlash that’s getting old, not the pimping?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
If there was not so much pimping, there would be no backlash:-)
MickeyW says
Yes HikerT it never gets old if it is your livelihood. You are just an inferior earthling, he is a writer and gets paid to write. So he knows and you don’t…..
Dude seriously needs to get his head out of his ass. He seems to have gotten over the fact that it stinks there.
HikerT says
He also claims to be an “expert on credit cards and travel” and “offer original, invaluable content that shows my readers how to travel for free” and “uncovered the secret to unlimited free travel with points and miles and written about it.” What original content has Steele posted? Or has he been holding back? Most of his stuff seems to be a rehash of content lifted from other sources.

To his credit, Steele is a good writer. He’s good at copying FM’s content and then when asked for a defense explaining that he thought of it first without any evidence. He’s good at instructing readers to demand that UA CSR supervisors break rules and then when called on it trolling real bloggers.
TravelBlogger Buzz says
Come on guys, I was expecting more fireworks here:-) To his credit, he is not a blogger pushing affiliate links! He is a hired gun & he writes well for the vast market of newbies. As long as they hire him I see no issue. He provides a different perspective in this hobby and I think this is important to get out there to “debate’ and perhaps learn from it:-)

Why do you keep on linking to a transparent plagiarizer like Steele?
TravelBlogger Buzz says
This was the first time I linked to his blog. I let him guest blog for me once. I think both times he had interesting and educational things to say from another perspective we don’t really see much at all of. It does not mean I agree with him necessarily. I think having diverse and different views contributes to understanding. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
