I hope you all had a great Labor Day holiday weekend. It was an unusual summer in Michigan, the weather just did not cooperate as usual. I did not even turn my sprinkler system until early August, too much rain! With one kid in college and the second one entering 8th grade the days of driving kids around for activities are going to end soon…
This TBB post will be very heavy on miles and points material as we are going to catch you up with all you need to know. This weekend we had a guest blog post by my son writing about his trip to Torch Lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan and I took the opportunity to dissect a part of our Maui Trip Report (coming) to just the Road to Hana portion.
It may be too late now as the page is down. But here is a cached version of the page that is offering Fast track to Elite Status on American Airlines. It is REALLY fast track, as in 1/4 of the miles required! Targeted, meaning if you register you may not get it. Good luck. (HT: Mile Nerd)
Get the Gold Delta Skymiles 50,000 and $50 offer by Doctor of Credit. Remember, in the new sucky Amex reality…if you had this bonus before you are not getting it again #sosad
You can get 3,000 Copa Airlines Connect Miles if you open an account and fill your profile. Boy, that took more time than expected as the website requires you to fill every single field. And it is very slow. Got 12k miles, maybe they come in handy some day #addicted
TravelCon II miles/points conference is now scheduled in the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas for November 7. TBB approves. TBB does NOT approve FTUs and Chicago Seminar events! Because this is how I roll!
An excellent comment by sdsearch in Flyer Talk about the nuances of what constitutes “activity” for miles/points expiration policies out there. Beware.
More details are out regarding Barclay’s “Luxury Card”. Doctor of Credit nails it with “This card sucked before and now it still sucks”.
If you have Best Buy elite status (or you will soon get it) you can change the settings so those darn reward certs are not automatically issued which expire shortly thereafter. There is a way to stop that and the post shows us how. At Oren’s Money Saver.

The Amex bleeding just continues. It appears every day there is another hit, wow! Now Amex is ending Membership Rewards transfers to Best Western. If you were doing this…wtf!

Words fail me when trying to describe the Sagrada Família. Visited the first time in 2012. Going again next month. Still years away from completion.

Wow, very low turnout today in the comments today. Not sure why…maybe you are all partying UA CEO Smisek’s firing?
I think 60 Minutes did a piece on the Sagrada Familia….wow!

So bored, nothing worth talking about. I wish I had some business negotiations with United because I sure could use some direct flights to Hawaii, comped of course.

Mike is here and this was a great blog post by the best. This is like the meta-blog.
I’ve got about as many credit cards as I can keep track of for the moment but good info.
Long day at work today, just got home, tomorrow rinse and repeat.
Super heat wave here in San DIego ! What is going on ? ! ? ! ?
I was in Barcelona for a couple of days and didn’t even see that, my foot was killing me and the new girlfriend in London was keeping me on the phone all hours of the day and night. I can always go again, right ?
Let’s see, what else ?
Too bad if people missed this blog post, one of the most informative IMHO and I thank you !
Cheers !

Oh yeah I remember now, I have another interesting credit card factoid.
London is the most visited city in the world. This is according to MaterCard who reports that the highest number of their foreign credit card transactions occur there. I found that an interesting way of arriving at that conclusion, a rather ingenious though perhaps disputable methodology.
Frankly I’m not sure I understand it 100%, it is based on the “MasterCard Global Destinations Cities Index”.

So bored by “the hobby”. Nothing going on. Some great trips coming up, can’t wait.
Sagrada Família looks great from outside, but super disappointing inside.
Construction zone with concrete and a few ladders, a couple of lazy workers
walking around with zero progress being made. Seems they want to become the longest,
not finished building in the history of the world, maybe they already became one?
Andy Shuman says
Oh man, are you serious? When did you visit? My jaw dropped when I stepped inside! It was full (overwhelmingly) with people, all the construction was outside, and while the noises are annoying, they don’t take away from the miracle of the immense, and indescribable beauty you witness on the inside of that “building”. I was told not to read anything about Sagrada Familia and not to look at any pictures before I see it with my own eyes, and I consider it the best advice ever for the first visit to Barcelona!

I knew about this but didn’t think it was that big of a deal. I do now. It has moved way up in my travel bucket list. This is an aspect of blogging I really enjoy…learning from readers. Thanks 🙂
