This blog is my baby and is in a perpetual state of evolving. At its present form, I try to publish four times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and the Sunday Best of Web series. I follow close to 350 blogs now in Feedly and I spend way too much time shifting through the sea of crap and mediocrity for the occasional gems that I share with you here.
The weekday Buzz posts follow a format that resembles something like this: The best miles and points blog posts that made it through my admittedly high thresholds, then on to some travel stories, some funny/odd stories, an awesome personal finance link, some stuff from any area (politics, art, sex, etc) that I found that is not good enough for the Sunday Best of Web post, some stories with awesome photos, perhaps a fav song when I remember, some little rants and sometimes colorful commentary in the miles and points blog scene, some advanced miles and points posts, some updates from my personal experience in the hobby, a few personal items and always a funny gif/pic in the end.
On Sundays, I post five links that blew my mind in the past week, usually deeper and longer stories. Always aiming to educate, entertain and inspire. Since November 2012. Enjoy my little personal passion project while it lasts. The one constant around here is that this blog evolves and there will be no clickbait crap!
Did you miss yesterday’s Best of Web post: We Are All Public Figures Now, United States of Arms, Pawn Shops Data, SIM Hijackers, Hollywood Con Queen.
You will never see a post like this in a commercial blog that sells credit cards. Because…it won’t help sell any! Is the New Chase Southwest Priority Card Any Good?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s quite possible that your answers to these questions would be a resounding “yes” or that you can earn more than 1x on your spend! Here are some hypothetical situations when you might want to get the Chase Southwest Priority Credit Card.
- You’re a very frequent Southwest flyer.
- You’re working on getting your Companion Pass.
- You’re maximizing the number of Chase credit cards, and this is the only Chase credit card left that you’re interested in.
- You value 4 upgraded boardings — a lot!
Otherwise, I just don’t see the appeal.
Do you? [Nope! But if you do decide to get it please use my links please!]
So much material on the Marriott SPG transition on the blogs lately. Which is understandable. Last minute checklist for the Marriott SPG transition. I wonder what blogs will discover to blog about after this merger is complete and the precious SPG brand goes away…it’s like a chunk of our hotel hobby stuff is going to be gone, sad!
Maybe you are owed some money back from American Airlines, look out for an email with a code! American Airlines Baggage Fees Settlement, Check If You’re Eligible. I would be more excited if the headline ended with an exclamation mark! See 🙂
This is up our alley: The Secret Rooms Hotels Don’t Tell You About. We are talking big time celebrities where privacy is paramount! I wonder if The Points Guy aims to get one to feel like he is worthy enough 😉
This was wonderful: Some reflections on my roadtrip across the western United States. From one of the blogs in the TBB Blogs I Like list!
I think one day we will wake up and read the news of the death of Alex Honnold. I am actually shocked it has not happened yet! How does this guy do amazing feats like we, you know, have eggs for breakfast or something mundane like that is beyond me! Does he feel fear? Well, this is for you: The Strange Brain of the World’s Greatest Solo Climber. There is no fear in this guy’s brain!!!
Nice video about America’s Ramen Obsession. I have cut this food way down, too fattening! Still, eating good ramen is like one of those rare moments in life. Like eating a fresh spinach pie in Greece. Okay, I better stop…
One day I am going to do a rant post on the FIRE guys! The financial independence retire early ‘movement”. Anyway, until then…I liked this post about how passive income is BS!
This is amazing! The Coralarium: An Immersive Sculptural Installation Semi-Submerged in the Indian Ocean. I may just have to visit the Maldives then and blow my last free night at the Fairmont Sirry Fen Fushi. All you gotta do is get your extended family members ten credit cards each, thanks you guys!
Great photos at the 2018 Dog Photographer of the Year!
I sent this to my son but I doubt it will change his mind not moving to the Bay area after college graduation. Visualizing The Cost of Rent in 140+ North American Cities.
Another great weekend at the 2018 Ann Arbor Art Fair DO. It was great seeing old friends again and meeting new ones. Thanks to everyone who made it and I am sorry if I did not get a chance to talk to you! Thanks to all who came to my house party on Friday night too, it was a honor to host you! You can go to events sponsored by big corporations masquerading as non conflicted advice dispensers and pay $249 plus travel costs or you can come to Ann Arbor and get a lot more freeeeeeeeeee! Here is a pic of the event during one of the presentations:
The day after my party, I hauled myself out of bed and ran 15 miles straight. Non stop. Longest run of my life! I followed that up with 21 miles biking and another four miles run the next day. I am becoming a monster on this whole fitness weight loss get healthy mode I am in right now! I also hit a new weight low, 31.6 lbs down. They check me out at the gym when before no one cared 🙂 What’s next? A sponsorship offer from a men’s products company #dreaming Oh, that lamp guy is still after me to get me to become their affiliate. Sorry dude, I am not interested in selling your lamps to my readers for the 15% commissions, leave me alone to whine 🙂
There is some really good info here: Best Credit Cards for Unbonused Spend [After the AmEx SPG Devalues] Interesting how all three adult members of the TBB household have the Amex Business Plus for most of unbonused spend at 2x. We like to Keep It Simple!
Sometimes old habits die hard 🙂 Or this when some self-appointed thought leader in travel rages about the loss of the AA barbecue sandwich, smh!
And I leave you with this…

I went to apply for the Premier from your links hoping you’d have the 60k offer, but it was only the 50k. So… the thought that counts?
TBBTheDude says
Appreciate the thought!
I am going down this month, sad!
ABC says
What’s your starpoints plan? Marriott travel package or save for next conference in San Diego?
TBBTheDude says
I am going to keep them to burn on a great hotel value. Most likely in the same Four Points next year in San Diego. I think. If I had plenty of time and enough Starpoints I would definitely look to burn for a travel package. Or several!

I hear no one has been tougher on Putin than Donnie…
Verdad?
🙂
MileageUpdate says
Trump is way too soft on Putin. I was really mad when he let Russia annex Crimea. Should have put given them one of those red lines in the sand.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
The red line in the sand gaffe by Obama, imho, was the right decision not to get involved in that mess in the end.
It’s like the VAR in soccer. After closer scrutiny the tough call needs to be right 🙂
The phucking moron thinks no one is tougher on Putin than him. And he probably believes it too. I have always said he is mentally ill!

I guess I could be doing repeated articles like this to keep my cc links like VFTW:
“American Express Business Platinum Delta Card: 70k Miles + 5k MQM’s + $100 Statement Credit”
On another note, I now see this card in my links:
Amex Business Platinum Delta Card for 70k SkyMiles, 5k MQM and $100 Statement Credit
TBBTheDude says
Whoever is adding their own affiliate links to the IHG Pointbreaks list links…you have entered my yikes zone!
So, if someone clicks on them…what actually happens? How long do these cookies last?
This online world revels in keeping clickers in the dark…The non transparency and conflicts reigns supreme…
When I lose my cc links I am going to go off on these $&$#oles!
TBBTheDude says
Email to me: Hey, you should do a rant how these guys are passing off their own affiliate links with their IHG Pointbreaks posts.
Me: TBB Accounting Dept tells me this operation earned 57 cents yesterday. I think I am going to pass 🙂
