We empathize with a blogger asking why to keep blogging, travel to volcano hikes, watch amazing Mexico landscapes, ride the biggest roller coaster & more!

Slow weekend in the miles/points world. There was a seminar in California where people keep paying big money to learn how to travel for free from speakers who are, for the most part, business men selling the lifestyle by pumping credit cards to anyone who breathes with good enough credit score. And then you wonder why devaluations keep happening, exsqueeze me?
“Why am I blogging?” by the Lazy Traveler. Great introspective post, I love this type of posts. No sleek sanitized mega cross linking SEO induced crap like you see elsewhere! The irony of this space is that the mega pumpers are the most commercially successful because they prey on the newbies while the ones who have more passion for this insane hobby, have more integrity who are not willing to accept a paycheck and go along with horrendous crap that is done to their content (to, you guessed it, sell more credit cards!) are resigned to introspective posts like this which remind me some of my infamous rants from the past. These bloggers…eventually…give up which should be a sin but it happens often, I have seen it so many times. So, when I say help the small bloggers I MEAN IT!!!!! Go out of your way to help them, YOU have the power. Help them continue on and save us all the preaching BS, we are not making a killing here but likely just taking ourselves out one blog post at a time. Lol, catchy hey? I LOVED this excerpt:
“Every critic foaming at the mouths that blogging must be a labor of love and passion should be mandated to run their own blog for a month or two. That will quickly change their prospective, I’m sure.” – Oh, so true, so true. I repeat. SO TRUE!!!!
and
“This blog is a time-sucking device, which means I’ve gotta make a choice.” – See previous comment, you know, the one with the multiple exclamation marks!
Epic Volcano Hikes Around the World. Yep, another AFAR list. I always see places there I never knew about!

I recently started following History Pictures @Historypicss on Twitter. Amazing pictures from the past, highly recommended.
It’s coming: Valravn Birdseye roller coaster in Cedar Point. Looks totally awesome! It will shatter all present records, including:
1. Tallest dive coaster (223 feet)
2. Fastest dive coaster (75 mph)
3. Longest dive coaster (3,415 feet)
4. Most inversions on a dive coaster (three)
5. Longest drop on a dive coaster (214 feet)
6. Highest inversion on a dive coaster (165 feet)
20 Gorgeous Landscapes in Mexico.
I paid the deposit for the October 2016 Yomadic Iran untour, want to come along?
Congrats to the Portland Timbers for winning the MLS Cup. Columbus Crew had a disappointing performance…at home, way too flat for a Final! The best team won, no contest!
And I leave you with…

Suggestion: add The Lazy Traveler to the “like” list! Why not?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yes. But I can not. #itscomplicated
Andy Shuman says
I agree. It’s complicated indeed. 🙂 Thanks for the shout out, George!

I miss pizza!

First, Portland wins MLS. Next up: Stanford to take NCAA. After that, I see what city in France my Euro cup-bound team will play and book tickets. (Hey, George, if you can cheer for Greece, then Hungary is making it out of group play is also not THAT crazy! )
A great week of soccer and soccer-related planning ahead!

It is clear Columbus Crew can use a better goalie. Wow!
Miracles do happen, like the 2004 Greek Euro miracle. Good luck

I like the Afar lists, but why do they have to put destinations multiple times in the same list? Because we missed it the first time?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Yeah, that pisses me off too but….it is what it is. No list is perfect 🙂

Another nice metablogging post.
Would be nice if the smaller bloggers had a co-op type of blogspace to make it easier for them.
Me, I think I need a good travel agent who is knowledgeable about points, miles, special deals, along with the usual travel agent stuff about cool places to go and things to do.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I got approached by a VERY HIGH END conscierge type service and they sent me a sample custom trip they did for a client. The thing is….it costs $50k per year to join and they take care of EVERYTHING. When I hit the lotto maybe lol.
Mike says
Yeah if you have that kind of money to blow on the agent who need awards travel, or work for that matter ?

Just got upgraded to HHonors Diamond matched to IHG Plat. My first top-status ever, that’s freaking historic!
Should I try for Hyatt again? Was offered Platinum already, but haven’t responded yet.
ABC says
It will only cost you 2 min of your time. Go for it!
You can blog about it.
Andy Shuman says
Thank you for your kind encouragement, although I was hoping for some data points. Sorry for not making it clear enough.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I went back and forth with Hyatt, it was inane. So I am keeping HIlton Diamond, booked the Conrad for 3 nights on points (to call back to get two nights’ points credited to the 2 free nights with new Reserve card) and hope I get some good upgrade. Screw Hyatt…maybe after Hilton Diamond runs out lol.

Do you know if the Chase 5 applications limit exists for business cards as well?
TBBBreakingNews says
I believe, and anyone please correct me, the 5 apps in 24 months 5/24 rule exists for cards earning Chase Ultimate Reward points. Which includes the best one of them all, the Ink Plus card.
ALL other cards (airline, hotels), personal and business, are not affected, they go back to the 24 month rule (you can have it again after 24 months). But it appears Chase is just getting a bit harder approving those as well.
The UR cards rule of 5/24 is for ALL credit card approvals, not ones only by Chase! This throws off many applicants. The big commercial blogs don’t let you know that because that will keep you from applying. And if you do not apply, you do not get approved—->If you do not get approved, they don’t get paid so….choose wisely!
Josh says
Thanks! That’s unfortunate. I am new to The Hobby, but got started last year with the AA Exec Plat for 100k, so that took up those apps. Guess my only options for a general travel card is Arrival Plus or Citi ThankYou then.
Appreciate it.
