Reminder: TBB Blog reader meetup in Fort Lauderdale on April 29 at the Westin Beach Resort
I finally started on my 2016 summer Asia trip report as TBB worthy stuff has been drastically cut this week, not sure what is going on. TBB curates content found around the blogs to bring you here in one post a day. When I don’t have enough, I am forced to work on trip reports which are ridiculously time consuming. Anyway, here is my trip report with my family summer trip in Asia hacking totals and a rather mediocre experience flying Japan Airlines in Business Class.
Lets get back into the normal groove here…
The maddening trick to display AAdvantage Partner Awards on AA.com. I guess I had not noticed as I always used the Advanced Search feature…but here you go, you are welcome. Son wants to visit Korea December 21 or 22 and return January 3 or 4. If you have any suggestions on how to burn AA miles (Economy, good for him, it makes him stronger, lol) please let me know.
Chase Sapphire Reserve for dummies. Good post for beginner new cardholders.
Register for Hilton’s new promotion Go More Get More. Earn Double Points on every stay at 4,900 hotels when you sign up and complete a stay from May 1 through August 31, 2017. Have Diamond Status? You will earn Triple Points on every stay from May 1 through August 31, 2017.
You hardly see any trip reports from Saudi Arabia, so I got one for you. Apparently, you can find plenty of Starbucks there!
23 Off-the-Beaten-Path Experiences for Serious Travelers. An AFAR list, some interesting places in it for sure.
The best undiscovered beaches in the world. Not sure Zakynthos is undiscovered but most of the other places mentioned were to me.
The Purpose Of Life Is Not Happiness: It’s Usefulness. This made a lot of sense to me and, in a sense, my blog expresses this perfectly. Educating, entertaining and rarely inspiring. Occasionally whining about the unfairness of this atrocious online business environment where atrocious fuckery is awarded. Did you know that people still ask me “So, The Points Guy makes money from credit cards?”. Answering that with an explicit WTFish swear word, followed by “Yeah” really pleases me and confirms my blog’s usefulness 🙂
Did you know there is a “Coin Washer” job?” Because I sure did not! There is this guy working at the Westin St. Francis hotel who has been doing it for 31 years. Nobody blogs about stuff like that, how can you add a credit card affiliate link to this?…Oh wait, Titan bloggers will find a way I am sure, sad!
Science is a fundamental part of America. With all the craziness going on, attacking science is just so ridiculous it makes me mad as hell and I am going to blog about it some more! Very moving short video.
Your personal finance fix of the day: When Holding is the Hardest Part. This is an absolute gem, I don’t know how this guy does it, keep writing such great content all the time!
8 Festivals where people go to throw things at other people! So much fun. I knew most of them but not all. Tuna throwing in Australia, really?
Must click. The 2017 Sony World Photography Awards Winners. I said must click, click it!
This section is for advanced level hobbyists and veteran blog readers & personal rants & stuff
Here we go again with them incognito higher Amex offers. Your friendly blogger goes out of his/her way to tell you that the signup bonus is limited to once per lifetime of card, right? Riiiight?
Has the miles and points blog space hit a wall? I am not finding much of worthy content to curate here for you. The obnoxious endless posts about United 3411 post keep coming. Recurring sales of airlines. And crappy GetAway deals and Amex offers. Numerous credit card sales pumping. REALLY bad writing reigns. Totally unimportant crap that makes no difference whatsoever for humanity. Headline clickbait galore. I could go on….It’s just a sad state of affairs….Sometimes going through all these blogs in Feedly I barf…Well, I wish that was true as I would lose some weight if that was the case. But I just feel disgusted…
Take a look at this hand picked collection of posts designed primarily for one thing: To SELL bank credit cards because of the sales commission dinero! Amazingly, Million Mile Secrets managed to stick thirty 30 affiliate links in a post informing readers that there is (another) JetBlue sale, unbelievable! And guess what Mommy Points will post next, the best Amex credit card to buy _______ (enter a card that can pays her very well). And it’s not going to be an incognito offer (see above link) because that would mean more points for the reader and less dinero for her #sosad.
Noob Traveler quit it appears but now writing at another “highly” regarded “expert” site pumping credit cards…Can we see more consolidation please?
I learned at DansDeals that the Amex Everyday Preferred credit card will no longer be offered to the affiliate channels after today. So, I wake up bright and early as I usually do and get hit with the first pump of the day. By Points, Miles and Martinis: “Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card American Express Great Spending Benefits”. I swear this site never misses a minute on how to pump their readers in every post #WOW.
And I leave you with this…What Ideal with every day to find you the good content to bring you here, you are welcome.

It’s a better morning when you are gold!
Peteco says
Buenos días.
Peteco says
Petra and Yellowstone.. wouldn’t say of-the-beaten path I guess
TBBTheDude says
It’s an AFAR list 🙂
Brenton says
I thought the same thing, but they are in a sense a little bit harder to get to than most tourist destinations, so there is that…
Ryan says
I didn’t know about the AA search issue – thanks so much for passing this along! My guess would be that it’s intentional on AA’s part, but then again I’m cynical by nature.
A couple beaches there I’m not familiar with – Andaman Islands sound interesting.
VFTW is STILL milking the United incident. That site has really become unhinged in more ways than one, though.
Mommy Points…started off pretty good and at the time having a little one myself, was glad to see someone posting about family travel…but she’s fallen into pretty much the same “Titan Trap” as her BA cohorts.
bluecat says
+1.
Thanks for sharing that trick about finding AA partner travel. Why do they have to play that way? I hate shit like that.
bluecat says
Yeah…and a “redo search” button that takes you back to the Advanced Search form would be nice. Instead, you have to go back to the AA home screen (grrrr…)
Ryan says
Yeah what’s up with that? The navigation used to be pretty straightforward on AA.com until the jacked around with it.
TBBTheDude says
I almost did not post that AA search article because I thought it was common knowledge. Good!
Just wait until goes off on the United dead bunny story 🙁
I almost took off MP from Ignore list. WTF was I thinking?
Brenton says
Commonly listed as the most difficult language to learn is Sentinalese, spoken only on the sentinel Islands located near the Andaman Islands. You’ll have to do your own research to learn why if you don’t already know…
TBBTheDude says
I like to post trip reports from not the usual places…but I think I have given up on ever having a TR from Sentinel 🙂
Brenton says
1. If you cared about your readers, you’d do the trip report.
2. I’m willing to contribute to a kickstarter to send a titan to do the trip report for you.
Phil says
Good links today, Dirty Jobs visited the coin washer guy in SF it was a sort of boring episode but a random dirty job I guess. There is a Chateau Montelena tasting room in the hotel as well if you buy into the hype of Bottle Shock, since you will be there soon enough.
Tomatina was hands down one of the worst festivals I’ve ever been to. If you get there before the tomatoes arrive you are jammed into very narrow streets packed full of people. Then they drive full-size garbage trucks down this same street to drop off the tomatoes. However, I can say I now know what it feels like to be in a human stampede. And after all that you have to ride the train back covered in tomato goup because it is in the small town of Bunol and there are so few rooms there.
bluecat says
Tomatina, the running of the bulls, etc., etc.—all these festivals were cool when they were not exploited by massive amounts of tourists, all looking to do something so “once in a lifetime” (and making sure to capture the moment in selfies). They learned about it on Lonely Planet or read it about it on AFAR and now they have to do the phucking event along with 10000 other aholes from other countries. The locals start selling tshirts and other crap with “I was at Tomatina” on it. The rest of us shake our heads about how silly this is all getting.
(And, yes, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.)
TBBTheDude says
Ok, you guys, Tomatina is off my bucket list then 🙂
Ryan says
I just don’t like overly-crowded activities in general, so you won’t see me at any of those events!
Phil says
I was there in 2006 while living in Spain. The majority of the non-Spanish tourist, or at least the ones I met were German and English. Did the running of the bulls that year too, I learned the lesson that if you the police see you taking a pic in the roadway they jack your camera battery. I wonder what they do now since it’s probably all smartphones. That is a tip you will never see on Boarding Area or doc. Also if you run the last section you get to run into the ring with the bulls.
@bluecat I have one of those shirts! But it’s because it is a strange ass tradition to rip off a shirt that is covered in tomatoes when people are washing up in the local stream. So it was either buy one or ride home shirtless.
oliver2002 says
I generally dislike the inordinate amount of food wasted at these ‘festivals’. Same goes for asinine ‘food fights’ you murricans find entertaining for some reason.
TBBTheDude says
And I was thinking to end all TBB reader meetups with food fights 🙂
bluecat says
Only if Ingy shows up.
TBBTheDude says
Wonder if he’ll do it….for charity 🙂
Ingy says
Hail George!
Hail George, King of the Angries!
Hail George!
Follow your leader!!!!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Apparently the answer to the charity question is no, sad!
See you all tomorrow.
Follow your heart!
Just don’t go to Sentinel…woohoo
spuz says
And a hearty buon giorno to you all,
Great idea, when’s the next meet up?
I’ll bring the fish oil
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Got an affiliate link for that? 🙂

Reminds me of a bumper sticker my buddy once had on his car: “Nuke a gay whale for Christ”
TravelBloggerBuzz says
That Live and Let’s Fly wrote about it only to follow it up with new video from United3411…I bet you he keeps refreshing the VFTW page and wonders if he is left behind woohoo!
Phil says
Ok, this is mean-spirited and hilarious, still laughing.
SB says
That AA tip was fire!
Thanks

The new writer at PMTTP might be promising as noted in this FT post
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28234210-post1004.html
I’ll wait and see how it actually pans out but he might be alright
TBBTheDude says
It’s been the first link in tomorrow’s post already. But then he…introduces himself. And the ass kissing begins…uwillsee
John says
lol this “new” writer has got to be kidding. This same commentary on blogs and intro was made by other bloggers 5 years ago. Yawn.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Left his conclusion post at the top. Moved my editorial comments to the Blog Buzz section. For obvious reasons 🙂
