Hope you have some laughs reading these. As laughs come first. Okay if they come to my expense!
TBB Blog Mission: To Entertain. Educate. Inspire. In That Order
You can support TBB by clicking/forwarding any of our Referral Links and starting your online shopping at our Amazon affiliate link . Or click on the Amazon Banner on the right, thank YOU!
From the August 5th post United, No surcharge AA flights to Europe, Planning Itineraries, Easy Scores, Credit card limit, Aragon, Socotra Island Yemen, Peter Lynch on Stock Market Losses & the FU fund, Best Blog Buzz in the land!
ABC: Perhaps TBB should get an Elf to help out in the comment section. A young eager and aspiring male. The ancient Greek used to love that kind of relationship. [ LOL. I can see me posting an ad now for “Young Aspiring WordPress male whiz with lots of time available. Angry prone a plus”. Woohoo!]
Too Nashty: I did a round of credit card apps today (obviously for only amazing “fringe” cards, no junk CSP, Hyatt, Arrival, Hilton that are pumped endlessly). I thought to myself, who do I like enough to give these apps to? But I couldn’t think of any blogger worthy enough….So that begs the question, when are you putting up your referral links?
TBB Response posted here as it keeps coming up to remind you where I stand for now:
Thanks for thinking of me, really appreciate it. Mentally I am not ready. Practically, I don’t have the time to go after this issue in a serious well researched manner and my very limited knowledge in it makes me want to avoid becoming associated with the companies involved. I fully realize how much potential revenue I am leaving on the table. And I am okay with it. I still find it very hard to believe I am still blogging and could fold this baby any day…so I take things Buzz post by Buzz post sticking to the mission of the blog and having a good time while doing it. Waiting for an intervention…to change direction
I am also very afraid I may like the money and then get on that bandwagon and become like the rest of the bloggers having to pump 24/7. And that….will make me look myself in the mirror and hate myself. Which is not kewl.
I will figure it out. I do know that Amazon link is a joke when you compare it to the credit card source. But it feels a lot more honest.
Developing…
Enjoy the ride…I am!
From August 7th post: TBB Meetup in Brooklyn NYC, MS Manifesto & enough blog posts with the Amex Offers for You already!
Some exchanges crack me up…like this one:
Steve Sucks: RamseyIsAMoron and KumarLovesGoats. Maybe they need to come to life and get appropriate attention.
Ramsey: I love goats too.
Kumar: I love all living beings as i am a vegetarian. Hehe. However, Stevesucks is always a sucker
TBB: I love everybody too! And I am not a vegetarian
From August 10th post: Marijuana-friendly Hotels, Club Carlson hotels Map, Wingsuits over Alps, 21st Century China, Burj Al Arab, Wealth/Cutting Corners/Happiness, Best Blog Buzz
Shannon: “…I’m not so Chase-y anymore. I’m a Barclay’s girl now.”
P: “…will start a travel blog niche that hasn’t been properly exploited. Calling it “Toilet Travel Guy. How to dump in First Class Style in amazing places! For freeeeeeee! Just click here and here and here!” I’ll give detailed reports and report the outcome…giddy thinking about having the niche all to myself. I’ll market it to friends and family, cause, you know, they all want to know how I dump in such style and amazingly places for free…
We had a link to the infamous post at Andy’s Travel Blog about the “Travel Blogger Bingo” making fun of so many bloggers flying in luxury for free of course…And TBB reader TWA44 came up with this:
Geez, that Travel Blogger Bingo tells it all. They travel in style thanks to the clicks from naive newbies. I suggest a new version: I’m-Not-A-Travel-Blogger Bingo. Or perhaps I’m-A-Newbie Bingo. Hey, why not both? Squares will include accomplishments like:
> I fly Spirit!
> I have a Frontier CC!
> I was stuck next to a Person of Size who spilled from the middle seat into my window seat, nearly suffocating me, for 3.5 hours
> I have Gate Lice Elite Status!
> Never got an amenity kit ;(
> I pick up amenity kits people left behind as I exit through first class.
> What’s an amenity kit?
> I have absolutely no idea who Drew is.
> I used my CSP UR points to get $400!
> I used my United points to get a suitcase!
> The WM clerks can never help me no matter how many questions I ask them
> Uh, what’s a skypeso?
> I have never taken a picture of a toilet to post on a blog.
> I have never taken a picture of two pieces of toast to show my readers what toast looks like at this particular breakfast buffet.
> I did not attend the Charlotte DO.
> I will not attend the WestCoastDO.
> What’s a DO?
And, for the center square:
> I just got 7 credit cards. Can someone help me book award tickets to the Maldives?
As you can see, we have a lot more bingo squares to fill, so step to it!
From August 12th post: MS meetup, Hawaii, Delta SkyMiles offers, Affiliate links, Petra, Lighthouses, Best Personal Finance Articles, Calling out the Absurdity in the Blog Buzz section!
There has been a long standing competition on who will comment first in a new blog post. Not sure how it started but just keeps going like the energizer bunny. The “first’ related posts in one blog post here sometimes can surpasss all the comments at Frugal Travel Guy for a week! I mean, you get hilarious exchanges like this!
Rich: First? [ you never know until you hit refresh and you don’t want to look bad lol]
Nick @ Personal Finance Digest: What the heck does a guy have to do to be first around here? [Been second so many times I think he should change the handle to Nick Avis]
Rich: I camped out by TBB’s house with binoculars to see when he pressed ‘submit’ [Aha, the truth comes out!]
TBB: I am going to lower the shades now Rich….or wait, what else did you see? Hope nothing ends up in da Internet…please amigo
harvson3: He [The Points Guy] says he values MR points at two cents each, so 4.5 MR points for your grocery spending is advertised as a nine percent return. Now, Buzz, that’s just horseshit sauce on top of a bullshit sundae. It’s for this reason, among others, that discussing the true value of points and miles brings much needed scrutiny and thought amidst the fog of credit card salespeople slinging bullpucky.
Nick @ Personal Finance Digest: This week’s comment gems…. brought to you by Hertz! [Lol!]
From August 14th post: Marriott MicroBonus promo, MSing for Hotels, North Korea, Supermoon, Unusual Beaches, Happy Retirement, Simply Better Advice, Productivity tips, Frugal Travel Guy account
Alex K: I did it! I actually did it! I remembered to click on the TBB Amazon link! And it was for a mattress purchase even – so have a coffee on me TBB. [Thank you! I wonder if Delta Points counts this as shilling my Amazon link lol]
Steve: “Here is the One Best, Most Rewarding Credit Card”
How many credit cards do you think the post on Gary’s site containing the above title contained?
Hint…. it isn’t 1″
There is a back and forth between Ariana (former editor of Frugal Travel Guy) and Milo (means apple in Greek by the way). Very interesting to say the least. And then bang, former TBB Comments troll Mr. Rick I.( or ingy or former owner of Frugal Travel Guy who no longer owns the blog but face is all over it and readers can send the results of the Credit Card Tool to “Rick” for “analysis”) blesses us with his presence to speak highly of Ariana (good for him, classy on this one) and leave the zingers as always which I find…entertaining as hell 🙂
Rick I: “…And George, your numbers are bouncing back a little. It is still a huge “time suck” serving no useful purpose, but feeding your ego and giving the disenchanted a place to play. . I’m sure momma will put her foot down one day and that will be the end. So anyway, tweet away that I posted to see if you can increase your numbers back to previous levels. I’m a big Ariana fan except when she is outing MS deals and …“Stay Angry My Friends””
TBB: You just can’t stay away from my blog, you are addicted. We love devoted fans around here, all staff of one!
Hey, I opened an FTG.com account. Still posing as a newbie looking for a cash back card and instead of 7 credit cards to apply I was served with…29. I did not choose to email my information to you…for obvious reasons. Instead of canning this abomination of a “Tool” it now leads newbies to apply for even more cards…if that was even possible! Shamefuly expertlike again at FTG…please don’t bother to tell us you no longer own the site yada yada.
Thank you for letting me know that my numbers are bouncing back. I couldn’t sleep having to wait “a few months” to be informed of such a momentous occasion.
Yeah, still a time suck but loving every minute of it. I could do other things that will impact my pocket in more positive ways but they certainly would not be as fun. I like exposing phony experts who are just credit card salesmen. You showed them the way.
FTG needs a total rebrand. And you need another hobby. DiffPaul had a great idea in the TBB comments for you but too bad it is too much work.
Does your momma know you are trolling in the internet calling us “juvenile” “cowards” and stuff like that? Maybe she did put her foot down and you stopped trolling (not completely). Mine so far has not. Sending her to her high school reunion with AA miles booked a few weeks ago #winning
Ariana is on a long way to get her credibility back. I always enjoyed her writing until FTG almost destroyed her credibility. We agree on one thing: we don’t like the MS deal stuff for…obvious reasons.
You stay Chase-y amigo.
I predict Howie will use the cousin of his father in law as a prop to pump the Ink Bold and the Arrival card…shortly lol.
University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University had move in days for students. As a father of a 12 year old girl…I will definitely not find this as funny in about 6 years or so:

To celebrate post some pictures on your blog. Yours are far and above the rest of the blogosphere!
Mike says
2nd!?
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I wonder if there is something wrong with Nick of Personal Finance Digest…he is usually second 🙂
Scott says
Who’s Drew with another awesome post calling out the bullshit on some of the recent sales pitches by the blogosphere.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Wow, yeah that was fantastic
Scott says
Then compare to Milevalue who proclaims the citi 2% cashback card the best cashback card in America!
TBB says
Yeah it is me. Doctor of Credit and Matt of Saverocity had good posts about this card. Perhaps The Free-quent Flier too but he linked to View from the Suite 🙂
Will says
George, I finally remembered to buy a book through your link. If I remember you get like maybe 3% so you can buy me a refill on one of your cups of panera coffee 😉 Keep up the great work.
On the post before this you pondered getting CC links and if that would affect you…I say you get them and be the one blogger who goes out of his way to not blast us. If anything I’d love for you to get credit when I do sign ups. You give the straight advice, and beyond the hobby. Keep up the great work!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
Thank you Will. I really appreciate that.
If I get them I can not do the blasting. Which may mean I will lose them. Which may make me go back on my word not to blast. It’s a sword I don’t want to do myself in lol. I am probably the biggest idiot who is refusing to do this! I am just not ready yet…I may never be ready. I don’t know.
I would love to read a blog post CC Affiliates 101 or CC Afilliates for Dummies so I can learn, the murkiness of the industry is so deep…do I really want to be a part of it? Then I look at my Amazon revenue and the hours spent on this and I ponder life is not fair. And it is not. But I like it this way so I…keep going as long as I can. As long as I am having fun and adding to the quality of readers’ lives (entertainment, education, inspiration. In that order) things will work out. Money does not bring happiness, I see this daily in my life.
I need to take a nap after an awesome BBQ meal at Slows BBQ in Detroit today with my kids!
RAMSEY's WTF thought of the day says
Did anyone else out there besides my have this thought, when they read about the 9 year old who shot the instructor with an uzi?…… ‘ It should of hit the parent who thought this was a good idea for their daughter, rather than the instructor.’
TravelBloggerBuzz says
What is even more bizarre the gun range implemented drastic measures to prevent this from happening again. It implemented a minimum age for shooting guns to be….12 years old.
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
RAMSEY's WTF thought of the day says
I looked up the meaning of IKEA in the Swedish Dictionary, It say’s ….”junkie furniture that will always break when you move”………”just say no to drugs and Ikea furniture”, Nancy Reagan.
TravelBloggerBuzz says
I shopped there once to set up my home office in my previous home. It took me FOREVER! I still have nightmares about it. I have no idea why people like shopping there. I also had them Swedish meatballs once, I would rather go to Dennys.
Friends don’t let friends shop in Ikea 🙂
smittytabb says
Only thing I have ever bought at IKEA is Xmas wrapping paper that had trolls on it. You know, the whole Scandinavia thing. Come to think of it, I should look for it so I could pass it along for you to wrap a gift or two. BTW, I too did a small Amazon order a few days ago. Don’t spend it all in the same place!
harvson3 says
We have reusable grocery bags from Ikea, brand name Dimpa. They are, far and away, the best reusable grocery bags we’ve ever had. They beat store bags from Wegmans, Albertsons, Safeway, Trader Joe’s, Zona Sul, and canvas bags from academic conferences, without a fight. They’re enormous, and can handle heavy weights and awkward shapes. They haven’t torn in five years of use.
Recommended, and you don’t need a hex wrench to assemble them.
Rich says
Being featured in the TBB Gems has been the greatest accomplishment of my life.
Rich says
And yes, George, I did manage to snap some compromising pictures of you when I was out there. I will send them to Ingy if you ever stop writing the blog!
TravelBloggerBuzz says
greatest accomplishment of your life, lol…that made me laugh…I am still laughing…thank you!
If you ever made such an offer to him, he will pay you big bucks AND then brag that he also donated the same amount to….charity and then blackmail me to stop ripping FTG lol.
Oh man I am going to miss the Buzz section so much…
